Gotta disagree with forbort. His skating was terrible and slow, even worse than mcnabb. Reads weren't great either. I think mcnabb was the better player in this game.

Also mcnabb did at least get 1 solid hit and was inches away from laying out silvs. Both of them really didn't have impressive games . It going to take both of them awhile but the potential is there.

Agree with Pearson and Andy Andy had a terrible game.

As for cracknell, he looked good but he is still miles behind Lewis on both sides of the puck (IMO )

Huh? For a guy his size, Forbort is a really fluid skater. And not slow by any means.

The NHL guys really stood out amongst the crowd of young guys, but a few guys like Weal, Cracknell (I know, he's more of a vet), Raine and Ebert looked good, these guys can skate and didn't look out of place.

Andreoff has a lot of work to do if he's going to replace one of Clifford or Nolan, which I think is a long shot.

McNabb will have to be eased in, he's definitely rough around the edges but has all the right tools to eventually be a top 4 LHD to partner with Slava.

Forbort kind of plays like Schultz's doppelganger, tall, lanky, long reach, not the fleetest of foot but their big wingspan covers a lot of ice.

He needs to play big minutes in Manchester and as Foxy said, be more assertive on the ice, as in being decisive when the puck is on his stick.

You read my mind on just about everything here really. The NHL guys were head and shoulders above the rest. When King and Toffoli are the best players on the ice it's a positive sign, but let's take it all in context. Weal, Raine, and Ebert all looked like they belong (obviously not immeidately on a team like the Kings but they all look like they could be NHLers). Very impressed by Raine in particular but HM to Weal, would love to see him get a crack at centering one of our top-9 lines this preseason.

I'd add Shore to that, actually--he really impressed me. Just freaking solid. Schooling Kesler by winning a few faceoffs cleanly was great. Just a really heady player.

I was rooting for Andreoff but I came out of last night wholly unimpressed. Kind of reminds me of Zenon Konopka as far as being well-rounded for a 4th liner, but I didn't see anything but decent skating that separated him from Colin Fraser.

Concur on McNabb--all the tools are there but it's clear he's learning our system as well as developing. He looked very scattered and raw imo and I don't think he had a good game at all. I hope he's our 7D and just keeps absorbing all he can learn because you can definitely see the potential just not the execution yet. And man, he's as clompy on his feet as Muzzin was.

Concur on Forbort. I think he needs to eat big minutes in Manch and see what he can do. He really needs to press. Tentative players won't survive in the Kings system.

Heard a lame reason from Colin Cambell last week.
The shooters are holding the puck longer and getting closer to the goalie, so ( lame part warning) for the safety of the goalie the decided to eliminate it. They were afraid of guys using it as an excuse to run a goalie in the shoutout. Also they said that the forward momentum of the puck stopped making most spin a ramas illegal and the refs didn't want to make that call.

That's hilariously awful. The forward momentum part makes sense but the goalie safety part has been a total non-issue.

I noticed tough guys like Beauchemin and Kesler would tuck their tails in when Nolan interjected during a few scrums.

Yep, was nice having beef out there that can play. Couple of times in particular guys like Beauch Kesler and Maroon would take a shot or two at Weal and immediately change their demeanor when Clifford Nolan or Andreoff smiled at them. I was really hoping someone would piss off Forbort so we could see what that would look like

Huh? For a guy his size, Forbort is a really fluid skater. And not slow by any means.

From other games his skating was much better but last night it wasn't good. Might have been hesitation that caused it, but his transitions were slower and was caught out of position. His length did help his recovery in a few of the situations .

I do see the potential with him but hopefully he continues to improve in Manchester. Like always people may disagree and that's fine as we all tend to see things a little different. (Which is why I read this board)

Sometimes it seems like Weal operates at a faster speed than his linemates, but I wonder if he just needs a little time to adjust to them and then...chemistry. A Sabres poster said that Nic Deslauriers' stick was where pucks went to die, but when Nic was on Jordan Weal's wing, he was the leading goal-scorer. When Weal centered Backman and O'Neill, that Manchester line was on fire.

I think that Forbort needs to do what Weal does and study a lot of video intensely.

I was told there were two overtimes and then a shootout (by someone who might not know)??

No there was just the one overtime and the one shootout - maybe that person thought there was another overtime because of the long time (just over 5 minutes) to get the ice cleaned up ahead of the first overtime. (Recall the new "clean the ice" rule, which we wonder when it turns into "clean the ice and run over the players")

Yeah, there was one OT for the Zambonis, one for the players, then a shootout.

And yeah, re Forbort/McNabb and our other Manch D-men--they look like they're not ready. Potential is certainly all there, but we've been spoiled by guys coming in early imo. Some of them will need to marinate for quite some time in the A and even then there are no guarantees. I think of a guy like Andrew Campbell who took a while to become what he is and though these other guys have greater potential talents there's still a lot of question marks.

McNabb:
Needs work, there will be a lot of growing pains with him. More than Muzzin had I believe. He looked slow, choppy, and confused. His hockey IQ is really not that great. That is going to be a problem for him. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Sutter pairs him with Greene or A-Mart. A Slava/McNabb pairing would be ugly.

Shore:
Looked great, hockey IQ is high, a freaking monster in the face-off circle.
Shore is ready for bottom six Center duty in the NHL. Although more AHL games never hurt anyone.

Ebert:
Man this kid can skate, his offensive instincts are flat out NHL ready. Sadly Ebert needs a lot of work on the Defense part of his game. More AHL games, but this kid is electric with the puck, awesome seventh round pick.

Andy Andy:
Stunk up the ice, got beat easy which resulted in a goal, wasn't that physical, didn't use his size or speed. This guy needed a stellar camp to make the roster, so far has been average. I actually believe he would pass waivers, he is just not that good.

Cracknell:
Impressive, but he is a Vet, I actually see him making the roster out of camp. He is a perfect fourth liner that bangs the crud out of people. One of the best players on the ice for the game.

Forbort:
Needs more work, his reads and Hockey IQ are there, but Derek still is not using his size very well. Skates well, and has a long reach that he uses too much (NHL wingers will exploit that). Forbort needs more AHL games.

Jones:
Looked like the Jones we all know and love; cool, calm and ready.

Weal:
It's a shame this kid is small, he is really small. Has NHL ready hands and vision, plays a solid 200ft game. He is best at center, but it would be a damn miracle if the Kings brought up Weal over Shore for a center spot. Weal is just really small...

Toffoli/Clifford/Pearson/Nolan:
All looked like NHL players, not much to say about them that we haven't seen.

Although Pearson...Had a really lazy looking game, he looked lost at times.

Noticed Raine quite a bit, in a positive way. Thought he had a solid game. Good for the kid, hope he continues to impress. Kid is going to earn a contract.
Weal didn't look as small as advertised, thought he played a better game than AA. Seemed AA struggled at times to keep up with the play around him. Maybe he's more suited for wing at this time.
Ebert can skate, now they need him to play some defense. Great skater, but a work in progress at D.
Overall, thought it was a good effort by the kids. Good to see them get some preseason games in.

I was at the game, Raine leveled a player and then made a nice stand up play on Kessler. Thought he was the best D man.

I'm not sweating McNabb after 1 preseason game. People are forgetting that he's played 37 NHL games so far and performed at least decently for a bad team playing over 17 minutes a game. That's a nice cup of coffee. I think once he gets used to the system (he joined Manchester late) and his teammates, he'll be fine.

I was surprised with Jackman, Stoner, Winchester and Maroon in for the Ducks against Andreoff, Sabourin, Clifford and Nolan there would be some fireworks but it was pretty quiet....

Clifford and Nolan are starting to understand, that you have to play a controlled game and contribute. Or you won't be an LA King.

Also both guys understand that reckless play (pointless fighting, stupid hits ETC). Can end your career rather quickly. Clifford has had what ? Three head injures already ?

Nolan got scratched(for like 20 games) last season after a stupid hit that led to a goal. Then played one playoff game was -3, then scratched again for the rest of the year.

Weal just has an uncanny ability to always be in the right position and make the right play even when in trouble. His instincts and hockey IQ are just that good and have been since he was drafted. I've said a couple times on these boards if he is +6' he is in the NHL already at the very least as a 4th line PK specialist. I think it was his last rookie camp he was at (the game where Chris Gibson shat the bed?) where he had like 7-8 takeaways, 2 breakaways, and set up a couple other chances that guys just flat out weren't expecting. His speed and positioning create chances and you're right it may take players a bit to get used to that.

We need to give him HGH

Holding, number 22 Anaheim, 10 yard penalty, first.... oh wait this is the NHL.
