Honestly matheson is kinda overrated on the PP here, I think he's better suited to the 2nd PP personally
We were 27th on the PP. He’s not the only problem but he’s one of them. Lots of his production comes from zone entries where he uses his speed, even on the PP. He just makes too many blunders handling the puck at the blue line. It kills momentum.

That's my memory of it as well, we need someone who can find seems, i think Matheson is better suited to 2nd roles where you are entering mainly from a position of coming off the bench compared too starting in the offensive side

just my 2c though

I don't know about The Bell Center but I've already said my piece.
If this team wants to win hockey games Lane Hutson has to be our PP1 guy end of story.
I don't need a camp to show me what Matheson can or can't do I've seen enough of him to understand his limitations.
Do you want a guy back there who can do any number of things to mess up an opponent or a guy with a limited arsenal and a history.

Lane Hutson faked dropping it back and then went on to enter the zone slowing up when he crossed the line to allow his mates to get in position.
Matheson will never be able to do that shit.
"Team First" or "Matheson First" is what it boils down to.
Why are we acting like we owe Matheson anything.
He benefited from our weakness at the position and now he's second best at best.
Don't tell me you want to be in the mix if you aren't going to use the talent at your disposal to get you there.

You must have been asleep in the 3rd, because I heard Mesar and saw some good offensive play by him. Note: I could only watch the 3rd period, not idea before that.
I wasn't paying full attention by that point, you're right. Was a pretty boring game.

Did Reinbacher did better then Trudeau ?
They don’t play the same way. Trudeau was fine, but his play anticipation and ice reading for the quick outlet pass is not at the same level.

Reinbacher is still trying to tweak his defensive play close to the net, but he’s pretty damn efficient with the rest…at 19! He doesn’t need to spend too much effort on the ice, he’s thinking the game at another pace, the puck doesn’t stay long on his stick (which is something coaches LOVE). He will create a lot of touches. Puck will move up the ice quickly with him.

I watched the game tonight and he impressed me a lot. I think his stint in the A will be short. TBH, he might be the first call up on the right side this season in case of an injury.

Let’s see how the rest of the camp goes, but will be a thing of beauty. I just see it.

And like our venerable Chester, I thought Beck was very efficient. Carbo-like. Another one who won’t spend too much time down in Laval. Mature. You would have thought he was 25 years old out there. He has that ‘thing’ that you can’t define. He’s complete. Thinks 200 feet all the time.

Of note: Mesar surprised me with his relentless work. I was expecting a floater relying on his skills only. I saw a kid that worked. And created some chances. Very raw still. But I see something that could be.

Boring and non descript game for the rest. And who’s this Hughes guy?!? Nice mask. A bit awkward sometimes in his movements, but stopped some good chances up close. He will help Dobes this year, me thinks.

On commence à être en voiture, j’te dis pas. Fun times.

I noticed the same thing with Mesar. He was quite engaged in the play physically. I was encouraged to see it, and it's kept my hopes up a bit. Curious to see how he does in Laval and where he can take his game.

Beck looks great. There are quite a few dimensions to his game so he can be effective pretty much everywhere. He knows where to be on the ice, and he's got a darn good shot. I have a feeling he's going to be a heck of a playoff performer.

Matheson always been inconsistent season to season. Given the depth on left side Habs may trade him this season instead of Savard. Matheson would have more trade value. Hutson plays first powerplay, Guhle goes back natural side, Reinbacher makes NHL.
