GDT: Preseason game 2 Bruins vs Rangers 7 PM MSG

I said this before so I don’t want to get repetitive but I work in hockey and have spoke to others about him. There’s a very good chance he would’ve dropped to the second round had we not taken him, and from my own assessment, he wasn’t on my top 45 list and was pretty much a DND for me

To sum up my thoughts on Othmann
-tries to play like someone he isn’t which leads to dumb penalties, bad frame as well
-predictable shot that will dominate juniors but won’t translate
-bad skater
-lastly, I can’t see an actual role for him in the NHL and you should never draft a player that has a label of being a much better prospects “sidekick”

He was my least favorite pick NYR have ever made

I have some prominent connections in hockey, I intern with one of the best programs in hockey and I also work with one of the best NCAA programs. I’ve had this opinion, and people I’ve spoke to, actual NHL scouts, have agreed with my take on Othmann. I’m honestly surprised NYR selected him as he’s the antithesis of our typical style of drafting. I’ve also said that he’s the kind of prospect bad teams get tricked into drafting high.

Its too bad we signed Nemeth....Jones Schneider would be a nice pair

I think that’s going to be next seasons 3rd pair, even though it’s two rookies, it’s been done before. They’ll have Nemeth still signed as a vet presence if need be.
I would like to see more of Robertson too, but I’d wager he’s still in the AHL for another year, year and a half.
Next season, these guys are really going to force the issue on the defensive log jam. Gonna be some tough choices to be made on who stays and whose dealt

Othmann was picked approximately where he was rated by virtually every mock. Nothing terribly wrong with the pick but didn’t make great sense to me simply because the Rangers are stocked with wingers and Othmann wasn’t ranked head and shoulders ahead of the centers who were picked in the same area of the draft.
