I know they say preseason is for vets to shake the rust out, but if that were the case, why did Stanley stand out so much from the rest of the group? Kovacevic, Chisholm, and Gawanke all looked better. Samberg can do everything Stanley can do, but better.
Hockey IQ. Stanley just doesn’t have it upstairs. If you’re 6’7, at least play like it.

I’d like to know how Adam Fox fell to the third round in the year Stanley was drafted. We moved up in the first round and gave away an asset to get Stanley and Adam Fox was almost a point per game defenceman on the US national team.

Which scout left that year...

So if Dave Rittich was the answer, what the heck was the question?

Holm must be a better option, no?
Comrie's dad must have been like 'Chip, hey do me a solid.. you know those five games you need to maintain my boy's rights? How about this beautiful living room set instead...'

Well that was your typical first preseason game. Lots of rust, some confusion and the players still learning their new reads.

Still I liked a lot of what I saw systems wise. I liked that our NZ was much more organized and disrupted the opposition more. I liked that we were in quick on pucks in the Oz and forced some turn overs. Lots of ironing out still to do but I like the framework.

Players:

Dubois - Vet who was shaking off the rust and largely going through the motions. Nothing really to say. He just needs to be ready for puck drop in October.

Perfetti had a good first preseason game. He got better and more confident as the game went a long. I liked his play without the puck, his reads were good, he was turning pucks over. He was also opening up really well for his teammates on the breakouts. Offensively he flashed his his skill both at 5 on 5 and the PP. What I liked is he was looking to shoot much more. Good opening game but he has a higher level he can still grow into through the rest of the preseason.

Lucious: Had a solid first game for the org. He was in good position and turned some pucks over. He took some shots and battled hard. He's nowhere near ready yet but a good confidence booster for him.

Stanley: He definitely didn't do himself any favors tonight with regards to the battle for the 6th d spot. He was a turnover machine and continually got torched with speed. You can't be a defenseman in this league nowadays with slow feet and that's what Stanley showed today. Factor in for a big strong guy he was pick pocketed in bad positions of the ice numerous times. Ville and Dylan the door is wide open.

The battle for the bottom 6 spots:

Riechel, played well alongside Dubois and Perfetti. Was in hard on pucks and Pk'd well. Put himself in line for another game.

Gus, played well. He was hard on pucks, turned a number of them over. He reads the play well and fits in well with what we are trying to do. Also good on PK. Definitely made a strong case.

Harkins does what Harkins does. He always has his feet moving and is always involved and trying to make things happen. I'm haply he was used on the PK tonight. He also had a good showing.

Essyimont: another depth guy with a strong and feisty game. Hes a pest and knows his role.

Toninoto and the Finns all played solidly as well. Might be a battle to the end of camp for those slots.

Chisholm had a nice game and is my dark horse to take his opportunity and stick when he gets it this year. I love the offensive confidence and his assertiveness. Couple that with his great skating and breakout ability and he is what Bowness is looking for. Defensively he was fine as well.

Gawanke was up and down.

Kovacevik played within himself and had a solid night. That is really all he can do.

Who is that? Do you mean 77 Capobianco (the guy that could not make the Coyotes roster)?

Yeah he was bad and killed the flow on the pp numerous times. I don't like why the heck he was on the top unit.

I tried watching the game but realized that I just can't enjoy the games when PLD is the star attraction. It will change when the full roster is playing and there are actually players that I like who are playing but PLDouche ruins it for me.

Not surprised he had a bad game, fits with his loser attitude that he showed in Columbus. No heart, no physicality or urgency from him, going through the motions out there. I am predicting a sub-50 point season for him after this, esp if he doesn't have Ehlers/Connor on his wings and the PP performance regresses to his career average.

Lol 1st preseason game with like 4 nhl guys on the roster and it begins already
To be fair, I don’t think Edm dressed more than 4 NHL guys either. Poolparty was the only recognizable name on their side. I know it’s very early, but this game followed the template set down for the last few years. Down one going into the third and then the clown show begins. One gaff after another = Blowout. Hopefully eventually Bones will get it turned around but this was definitely a case of déjà vu.

Not sure Fox is the best guy to make your case with. He forced his way out of Calgary and then Carolina without ever signing a contract to get where he wanted to play. Chevy wouldn’t have been able to sign even with a gun to his head.

Yes I agree BUT new Coach needs to instill NO bull shit shifts or we have repeat of yesteryears. Coasting breeds lack lustre effort once regular season begins. Dubey coasting sets a very poor precident.
It almost looks like Dubois got a talking to between the second and third. There was a noticeable difference in his effort level in the third.

In spite of the score I think they played pretty well and had the edge in overall play.

Perfetti was the best player on the ice for either team.
Dubois was somewhat invisible but did get a little better as the game went on
Gawanke and Chisholm were our best D pair and Gawanke really stood out in a good way, even with the turnover.
Harkins and Appleton were good and I think Maenalanen would fit well on a 4th line
Lucius started well in the first 30 min but disappeared in the second half of the game
Gustafsson was invisible, but didn't actively hurt us.
Stanley wasn't good and DeMelo could only do so much to salvage it.

Like to see Chisholm make the Jets. Lots of Heinola talk the past few years, but Iike Chisholm more.
