They let Thomas Morestead go for no real reason. They let Will Lutz thr kicker go for Blake Grupe who is 5’7” and has a limited leg. I don’t get how they make those specialist positions.
Lutz missed 2021 and was never himself in 2022, and his 2020 was already a regression. But it is a place they feel they need to save since they're always doing salary cap gynnastics.

I drafted a punter in the mock draft for a reason.

I feel bad for young guys trying to get foot in door

The practice squad used to be that for a lot of them

With rule changes allowing guys well into 30's being signed to practice squads its meant a lot less young guys getting shots or chance to break into league
It's a mixture on the PS. You keep the guys you don't want to risk losing on the main 53 as the last guy of that position group. PS, are either youngsters whom you want to develop but are not really ready to step into a game and help you if needed. Or a vet that they can more easily plug in but won't be devastated if they were to get claimed off the PS.

Lutz had the hip injury which I'm sure scared them. But in any event, their real problems are an inability to draft offensive linemen the past few years and the desperate need to try to hang onto the Payton glory years which left them with Charmichael and Allen. At least they replaced Carmichael with Kubiak that should open up their offense if they can get any pass protection.

Are you local to the Saints?

Wonder if this cut if medical related in that he couldn't get to where they wanted because of it.

I heard Mayock a year ago talking about medicals and the draft. Said, he liked Trey Smith OG whom KC took but he had a medical situation that the team doctors didn't ok, so they took him off the board. I remember years ago the Raiders took Hurst DL from Michigan after he fell due to a medical.
It very well could be. From what I remember he's about 350lbs or more and being that heavy probably didn't help his recovery.

Toney could maybe carve out a role as a depth WR and return guy if he were ever healthy, but that’s always a problem. He was absolutely dreadful last year when he did suit up though.

Toney is like the most undeserving luckiest player in the league. If the Giants weren’t so desperate to get rid of him, he doesn’t backdoor his way to two Super Bowl rings. Now his next team will have a quarterback who is not Patrick Mahomes.

Dallas traded TE Peyton Hendershot to KC for a conditional 2026 7th round pick. Dallas will get the pick if Hendershot is on the Chiefs' 53-man roster for five games this season or if Hendershot is on the game day roster for three games. Smart move by Jerrah since Hendershot was going to get cut by the Cowboys.

Hedley was roundly criticized by Saints fans. He doesn't seem to have much of a leg compared to most of today's punters who can routinely kick it 50+ yards and he seemed to save his worst efforts for critical late game situations. The staff liked his hang time and were seemingly ok with netting about 40 yards per kick but it obviously wasn't quite enough.
Like we did with Drew Brees, we got spoiled with Thomas Morstead. For a very long time you didn't have to worry about this position and there were some games the guy was our best player.

Now we see what it's like when you don't have one and it's even more a focal point with the offense a mess.

If they can’t stabilize the pass protection it will be ugly.

Not the same after LT Armstead signed with Miami and RT Ramzcyk has been injured. First rounder Penning hasn't been what they hoped over these 2 seasons so far. Will need him and Fuaga, their 1st rounder to hit and bookend the line.

Penning showed improvement during the preseason but still isn't consistent in pass coverage. A rookie at LT is always a risk but he does have a good draft pedigree and seems to have held up well. Ramczyk's knee is a shame. He was a top RT and is way too young to have that sort of degenerative condition. Armstead was great for NO but always struggled to play a full season. To be fair, NO has seemingly tried to avoid a rebuild post Brees but I think it's high time they started to turn the team over the right way.

You can continue to kick the can down the line so long as you are a PO team. But to push more cap into the future and miss the PO the past 2 seasons seems like a wasted opportunity to eat the dead cap and reset their cap structure.

But you just know Loomis and Lauscha are sitting there telling themselves they were only a missed FG against GB from getting in.

Kene Nwangwu was the only surprise for the Vikings, but with the new kickoff, they seem to like other guys better for it. He was actually having a good camp as an RB though

Hilarious that the Vikings couldn't even get a late round pick swap for Cine and/or Andrew Booth (Nashon Wright who they got for Booth, ended up being cut, like Booth was gonna be, and is on the PS.)

No team even claimed Cine, wound up on the Bills PS.

Man that 22 draft was bad before they even made a pick, that 20 spot trade down, and then taking a Safety, which wasn't a position of need (trade was bad even if they picked a stud) when you passed up Hamilton was even more of a head scratcher and then both Top 40 picks don't even make it to year 3.

I will give Kwesi this, at least he's cutting his losses and not holding on to guys just because of where they were picked.

that 2022 class for sh*** and giggles:

1st - Cine - played 10 games, less than 10 snaps on D, cut before year 3. (Did break leg rookie year)
2nd - Booth - couldn't get on the field and stunk when he did. Traded for a warm body before year 3.
2nd - Ed Ingram - currently the starting RG, but he's replacement level, and that's being generous.
3rd - Brian Asomoah - backup/STer. Don't think he's long for the roster.
4th - Akayleb Evans - benched multiple times. Currently 4th or 5th on the CB depth chart behind a bunch of old guys.
5th - Esezi Ottomewo - cut in camp 23.
5th - Ty Chandler - backup RB, looked fine when he had to play last year.
6th - Vederian Lowe - traded in August 23. At least they got their 6th back here.
6th - Jalen Nailor - WR5 year 1, hurt most of last year, but had a great camp and is currently WR3 on the depth chart
7th - Nick Muse - 3rd/4th TE bounces between PS and active.

The draft actually looks better if you read it backwards aha.

Nwangwu isn’t healthy. He was waived again by the Saints on a failed physical.
