As fun as game 1 was, this was pretty much the exact opposite.

Brink looked good in the first, but his energy waned. No one else stood out positively, except for Makiniemi.

Was hoping to see something from Lycksell, Rizzo, Bonk... but nothing.

NHLers like Couts, Laughton, Foerster, Poehling... all looked like they just wanted to get out of the game without getting injured.

Risto and Attard were atrocious. Petersen should be sent home; waste of a roster spot, even at the ECHL level.

The Flyers have several Lane Hutson types.
2022 draft is looking incredibly cursed for the Flyers right now. Could have had a high second to draft Hutson, but instead we traded it in order to dump a 3rd pairing d-man, and also traded our 5th OA pick for an oft injured player we hope develops into the 3rd piaring d-man we paid to get rid of.

Just not an actual one, the kind that’s impactful.

Hutson has 2 NHL games. Drysdale has 147. Let’s wait for Hutson to match that.

All you can ask is that they learn from their mistakes. I think they have.

Why did they extend Hathaway and Seeler? This game gave you a good idea why.

When Deslauriers is one of your better looking forwards, well . . .
Lyksell and Eklind showed me nothing, Richard is fast but isn't that skillful and isn't a forechecker like Poehling. Rizzo didn't show much either.
Brink was pretty good, but not good enough to be assured a job.
Desnoyers looks quicker than last year.
Gaucher is an AHL body.
Couts looks healthy, played like a guy with a guaranteed job.

Attard can't play defense, that's why Risto is the 3RHD, the difference between the two was night and day. Same size, but Risto can skate and has a clue.
There's a reason Belpedio is in the AHL.
Bonk was MIA in the 1st period but played better as the game went along.
McDonald was pretty much MIA.
Zamula was decent.

Makineimi didn't embarrass himself, which puts him ahead of Peterson.
Kolosov would be the starter in LHV if he came over, Peterson is just here b/c they didn't want to buy him out after retaining last year and buying out Atkinson.

Thought

Too many pre-season games for my liking. Year after year the same opponents, as well. Let the real season start.

I feel like some of you are just saying Ristolainen looked terrible because you already have your minds made up about him. I thought he looked pretty good, honestly.

Attard was brutal. I feel bad for the kid. Couturier looked really slow to me. I'm worried about him.

Yea you're right he definitely looked like mid season Risto

Which is a terrible hockey player. Attard was definitely terrible last night. Couts has always been slow it's his smarts that keeps him in the play. He was in plenty of passing lanes disrupting plays last night. Hopefully the offense hasn't tapered off too much with all his injuries

Keep in mind this game comes after the opening of training camp.
They skated like a group with tired legs.
They'll get Tuesday off, so they should be fresher on Thursday.

One reason Torts like "tired legs" in early exhibition games is to see how players respond.
During the season you always have one or two stretches of 4 games in 6 nights or so, and players who can play through fatigue can steal you a point or two here or there, and 3-4 points might be the difference in making the playoffs.

But we know he's the worst forward on the roster.

Brink was pretty good, but not good enough to be assured a job.

Mark my words, this is the narrative spin starting in preseason. It will be used in the near future to help justify Torts scratching Brink for Deslaurier to get ice time. Torts needs his whipping boy. Frost won't be touched this year, it will be Brink getting in Torts' doghouse-"there is no doghouse".

Foerster/Farabee Couts TK
Tippett Frost Michkov
Farabee/Foerster Laughton Brink
Cates Poehling Hathaway

Deslaurier

He should never get ice time over Brink. If someone gets injured they call up Lycksell before playing Deslaurier.

The second half of last season, during a PO push,
Deslauriers played 21 games at 6:52, Brink and Lycksell played over him.
Deslauriers was actually effective in that role, with fresh legs and limited minutes.

I had the French broadcast, which was great.

A few notes from what they were saying about the Flyers.

- They said the Flyers dressed 4 players from Quebec and that it was a nice gesture. Whether or not it was intentional on the Flyers part, I thought it was pretty neat that it was noticed.

- When Deslauriers got into a scuffle on basically his first shift, they noted that that's pretty much the extent of his game and that he's gotta do it. They said it's still a valued role on hockey teams.

- They were very complimentary of the Flyers prospect pool (multiple times). Saying they have a lot of good young talent in the pipeline and on its way. Mentioned Michkov, Kolosov, Luchanko, Brink, a few others.

- They were also complimentary of Briere and Jones, saying they are on the right track.

As for the actual game, it was pretty rough.

I liked Makiniemi. He looked pretty calm back there except when trying to handle the puck behind the net. Clearly needs some work there, but overall he looked good.

I thought Foerster looked good, he was moving the puck quickly, got a few shots off, and helped QB the PP with Zamula. The PP itself looked ineffective and stayed on the perimeter.

Coots wasn't very noticeable - and I'm not saying that negatively. Just didn't notice him very much.

Brink was noticeable. Clearly not as effective as the previous night, but he was working hard and trying to make things happen.

The rest were pretty forgettable.
