Who can the sharks target who would be willing to do a 1 year deal and then get traded at the deadline?
I think this is unlikely. Players know Sharks are still a hot mess. They would likely require a huge overpay to go through a plan like that. That means they are not worth their salary and Sharks have no retention spot to soften the impact to the trading partner. So it means a middle-man being involved. Why not then just sign with the middle-man or another playoff bound team in the first place, why consider SJ at all? The weather?

Unless you are a player seeking redemption and you are guaranteed top line/top pairing duties with PP time. Then maybe your salary is reasonnable with SJ and if you win your gamble you can be traded at the deadline before signing a bigger contract next year. Who really fits that description? Maybe a recently bought out player like Skinner or Atkinson if they receive no suitable offer elsewhere, but I doubt it.

The smartest team will sign Monahan, Duclair and Skjei for decent term and AAV rather than getting completely stupid. Those 3 can upgrade any team out there.

I do think people are underestimating Pat Verbeek with the predictions so far. He's got a bag to spend and a rising young team.
