“@AGrossRecord: AV once again says Rangers do not have personnel right now to play more offensive-minded style of hockey he'd prefer.â€

Durrrrr.

Gonna print this one out. Tortz da clown!

The Islanders had it last year but don't have it this year. Made the PO's and took Pittsburgh to 6. Could have won that series... They had like what, a 45m budget?

I don't think that Staal, McD, Girardi and co to such extent are born without talent that they can't play AV's system. Unlike Sami Salo, Alex Edler, Kevin Bieksa, Dan Hamius, Mattias Öhlund and co who had no problems with making those passes.

The problem is that they haven't made those passes -- made by all the better teams in this league -- the last 3.5 years.

I said that before Torts had coached his first game here, I said it while he was here, and I said it after he had been fired. The style of the pre-lockout kings Marc Crawford, Bob Hartley and John Tortorella didn't function after the lockout. The longer time past, the more obvious it became that the teams that took risks to win momentum and took the game to the other team were the most successful. We went in the completely opposite direction. You had experts who had played their whole career during the dead-puck era comment on how they -- never -- had seen a team so "afraid" to pass the puck as we were last season under Torts.

That is just showing now. Our Ds are uncomfortable making those passes. Its maybe the most important area in the game to not screw up in. That just shakes the fundamentals of this team. We have two options, either keep going in the wrong direction or sucking it up.

I'm giving player of the game award to the women who asked AV the question that got him to say that these players are not te ones he needs to have to coach his style!

Is anyone else concerned that essentially AV drove a giant wedge between himself and the players on his team? If I heard what he said, he basically said that the team is lacking the players he needs to be succesful. That does not sound like a really supportive atmosphere to me.

That being said, I don't honestly care if the current players feel supported or not- they don't deserve support when they can't get anything done!

I've said this in as many threads as I can but trades have to happen now. Honestly, Hank, Nash, McD and Krieder are the only ones I'd consider untradeable. Anyone else I'd be actively trying to get rid of right now before any longer. We can't start to move forward by standing still.

Katie Strang asked that question.

I can't imagine justifying a pay raise for Callahan in anyway, shape, or form at this point it's not a big deal if he isn't resigned which is sad. Wth happened to hagelin?

Skjei and McI can't be ready soon enough. Hopefully Allen develops too. But especially with McI is he anywhere near a fit for a system like this?

Moore needs a simpler, defense-minded system, so do a bunch of these guys. So naturally we stick him in that system and he plays great. Then we put him in a much more complicated system. Gj having a long term plan and making a coaching hire that fits your personnel you bumbling *******. Gj making signings that are nothing more than waiver wire fodder and scratches.

The talent evaluation dept has failed when it comes to FA's in almost every respect.

It has evened out, if not canceled, having some damn good drafts and trades between 2004-2009.

Blithering idiot at Gm. Also ******* you Torts for cancelling out the good you were doing by acting like a complete a**hole well beyond reasonable levels of human tolerance on a daily basis and pissing off the whole roster. Ah who am I kidding it was plenty evident last year this team had a massive void in offensive talent and that it was going to start to kill us more and more. Losing prust vs, signing Asham, Pyatt and Poo and trading for Clowe. Seems unbelievably devoid of intellect. Losing Prust at the time was ok. In fact he seems to be getting hurt quite a bit. But when you supplement that loss and look at what we replaced it with... with the money we've pissed away and trade that the GM bungled...

Oh yea and Powe is useless too another awful signing (Rupp) and NHL trade

I agree 100%. The players can have all the closed door meetings they want. It won't help. We basically have two options. Fire AV, or acquire players that fit his system more suitably. We're running out of time here. Something has got to give if we're going to turn this around.

Torts said the same things

Torts said the same things

Torts adapted his approach to the team and got the personnel he needed over time. It was his greatest success here and led to a memorable season. Unfortunately this is his roster still with a few notable exceptions.

Pitiful :shakehead

And on Thursday night Nash will see his Rangers being schooled by his former Blue Jackets. Welcome back, Dubinsky.

Well that was a horrible game and I agree with AV.

Look at the way the Ducks, Kings, Bruins, Blackhawks, Penguins, and even the damn Canucks are constructed. They have two lines that are a threat to score. They have two legit lines that can score. A shake up needs to happen and I think it will happen soon.

The only untouchables are McD, Lundqvist, Nash, and Kreider. Stepan is going if you like it or not for the right price. We need a major overhaul and need to stop adding piece by piece which gets us no where. Richards gets bought out during the off season and Sather along with AV by his side make a splash in the FA market this off season. It is sad to see our core go but my God, we are pretty damn horrible.

Still think that Zucc and Dorsett stick as well. Stepan has a solid chance of sticking as long as he is put in a 3C position.

Also, using the FARM won't work this time. We need actual NHL talent

Just broke my Rangers framed logo. **** this team. Glass everywhere btw.

I know Callahan had been up and down this season but he had 4 points in the last 6 games prior to last nights train wreck. He was showing signs of becoming his usual self, then this crap happens. This team cannot catch a break. :shakehead

But his comment I was responding to was about driving a wedge between the players and coach with a comment. My point was essentially what you are saying. That comment by AV won't drive the wedge it's about how the coaches and GM's plans unfold. Torts treatment of players reportedly drove a wedge in between them and it took 3 or 4 years. AV making one comment won't even put a wisp of smoke between him and the players yet. He'll hopefully seek to bring in guys for his system.

Last year I wondered a lot about how offensively inept our defenseman are. It's really hurting the team. Seems like they just aren't very smart players

I know we have a zillion problems but so far AV = Bryan Trottier

I dont see the parallels. AV is an established coach in this league. One that has shown has can operate with talent. This team has no talent.

It has been, is, and will be about personnel. Theres a lot of bad to mediocre players on this roster.

Year after year, however, its just so much easier to focus on one issue like the coach or the goalie, or whatever.

Obviously its not only him, but as Ranger coach, not Canucks/Habs coach he hasn't shown much...

Its been 32 games. He was lied to by the guy that hired him. Hes under a mandate to get more offense out of this team and God himself couldnt do that.

That's cool - can you tell us what he does for them?

Some stats, holds the mikes during post game press conferences, delivers stats to both locker rooms, radio booth and tv booths, between periods and after the game, usually watches the game with Kenny Albert and Dave Maloney, sometimes watches the game with the scratched players, last week he watched the game with Evander Kane...I remember his 1st game I was at work and listening on the radio and it was the 1st intermission and Don Lagreca said I just got handed the 1st period stats and my son texted me 2 seconds later telling me he just handed Don lagreca the 1st period stats, pretty cool
