Really not much to add about Bennett. He's a pretty special talent. He's obviously got amazing vision, playmaking skills and is very physical for the type of player he is.
Bortuzzo had a hell of a game. Pretty clear he needs to be the #6 and not Engelland. The upside with Bortuzzo is just so much higher.
I liked our 4th line tonight of Big Mac, Sill, Payerl more than I like our usual 4th line of Glass, Vitale, Adams. Just the size and physicality of that 4th line tonight was refreshing to see.

Why did Crosby play almost 24 minutes tonight? It was an exhibition game, not a playoff game on the brink of elimination.

From what I saw the young kids were doing really well. Sadly there isn't a lot of room on the team for them as Dan won't play a kid over a vet to save a playoff series.

I like what Kobasew brings and god damn...Bortuzzo, I hope he continues to bulk up and becomes an even bigger pain in the ass to play against.

How does the team that coined the phrase POP never do that? They hardly even get a good center drive going.
I'm in NJ so I get to watch the game on NHL Network this afternoon. Does Bennett get anyshifts with Sid?
Does anyone else get flashes of Patrick Elias when watching Bennett?

I like the Elias comparison. the first guy I thought of last season was Tanguay. great vision, can dangle, very smart. Beau's got more of a physical game though.

He made 2 or 3 but that one that sent D'Ags off was impressive between all the sticks.
I knew he had the scoring touch, but I honestly didn't think he had that kind of ability when passing. Saucer passes right on the tape!

he's more of a playmaker than a goal scorer. that could change down the line obviously, but to this point his passing/vision is what gets talked about the most.

Well and even better reason of why he should be playing with Geno and Neal, those 2 can score especially Neal which needs to be set up and both players can do that. I don't really care where he plays, but if he isn't used on Crosby's or Malkin's wing I'll be ****ing pissed.

The problem with what I'm seeing here is that the Pens cannot keep 14 forwards, hell they can't keep 13 forwards, unless they trade Nisky. You can't demote Despres and call it a day until you cut someone else too.
So if we are rolling Jeffrey or Kobasew, then Nisky has to go (or JJ). There's no other way to do it.

That's awesome.
To be honest, I don't know if there's a real good comparable for Bennett in the NHL right now. Elias has playmaking, creativity, smarts, and defensive play, but Bennett's physical enough to be a great forechecker too. Not saying Bennett's better than Elias, just brings that extra element.

Bennett finished every check in the offensive zone and created 2 turnovers by their D because of it. Kid is doing everything right, let's just hope the coaching staff is watching and rewards him
Like I said when he signed here, Jacques Martin is a defensive specialist but just like DB he is another guy who loves his veterans. I remember the year they beat us he kept playing his 4th line of Lapierre and Talor Pyatt and Hab fans would always complain of that line being out there

So glad to see Bennett playing at this level, gonna make it impossible for the coaching staff to put him anywhere put top-6. My only complaint is that I won't be the only one rocking a Bennett sweater at the game anymore, but at least I can say I had one before it was cool... where's the hipster glasses emoticon?

I'm hearing that management is very disappointed in Despres for getting his clothes wrinkled.
I do see the comparison for Tanguay and Bennett, that's probably the best comparison for him. I don't think it's crazy for him to be getting 25 G and 75 points in his prime with Malkin and Neal. He has the playmaking that will complement Malkin's skill and Neal's sniping.
I know people won't like to hear this, but I think Bennett ISN'T the winger for Crosby. He's the perfect winger for Malkin's LW. Ever since his last concussion, Crosby has become more of a playmaker. Putting Bennett, a playmaker, with Crosby, another playmaker, wouldn't be smart. Putting Bennett with Malkin and Neal, both of which could be considered snipers, would make the most sense.
I know I'll be beating a dead horse here, but the Pens need to get Crosby's Neal. Bennett isn't that. That isn't a knock on Beau, but he isn't the type of player to play with Sid. In our system, I think the player that makes the most sense to play with Crosby in the long-run is Kuhnhackl. He's the kind of player we need for Sid (big W with an elite shot that plays with grit). However, how long will it take for Kuhn to be NHL ready? 1 year? 5 years? Would you rather wait it out and hope Kuhnhackl develops into the perfect winger for Crosby or trade (and probably pay out the ass) to get a young one now?

I don't think there's one right formula for the winger for Sid. Malkin is a playmaker too. Both Sid and Geno can be elite playmakers and goal scorers. The reason why I personally think Bennett would be better for Sid than Geno long term is that Geno wants the puck all the time. What he needs more than anything is someone to go get it for him. Bennett's talents may be not be utilized properly in that scenario. Sid needs a guy who can make a play on his own to free Sid up.
I think Bennett will do well and add a lot to either line, I just think his assets are needed more with Crosby than Geno.

Such a breath of fresh air not seeing Adams or Glass ruin a shift out there. Payerl is just so much better than Glass at everything. It was nice to see a 4th line go out, bang some bodies, and actually dictate play a couple of times, instead of getting pinned in the D zone the entire shift. Kobasew should replace Adams too.
BB (as crazy as it sounds) seems to have more hockey sense than any other Penguin at this point. I never see him make a mistake with the puck. I wish Crosby would take note because I haven't seen him play a good "Crosby-like" game in a long time. He's just making too many mistakes with the puck and giving it away trying to force passes. I miss the "shooting" Crosby of 09-10 that was dangerous every shift.
RoBortz looked very good too last night. Unfortunately, he probably can't convince this coaching staff that he's better than Engelland. Depres had a pretty forgettable game. I was hoping this would be his year to make a significant impact, but he may not even make the roster.
I think this will be the season that we realize the Penguins have become too old as a team, especially on the bottom 6 with the roster I think this coaching staff will dress. The camp roster could field a much more effective bottom 6, however.
