________________________________________________________

Speaking for myself-these are the best Power Play defenseman, in order of effectiveness

1) Buff -- can rush the puck in the O zone, great skater, physical, with a "great shot.'

2) Tyler Myers - underrated, great playmaker on the PP, great skater, great shot.

3) Joe Morrow-- great smooth skater -nice accurate shot from the blue line

4) Josh Mossissey - "underrated"-great skater, good playmaker, accurate shot, and should be used more on the power play.

5) Trouba -- not bad, sometimes a bit sloppy, shot misses often, but I think we have better for the PP. He does show flashes of greatness.

Based on what we have seen so far I'd say we start the season:

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
MP-Little-Laine
Ehlers-Rosie-Dano/Lemieux/KV
Copp-Lowry-Tanev

Defense seems a little less certain and I'm still hopeful Niku finds his way into the starting lineup.
So are you guessing they'll trade/waive Petan?

I have a feeling they send Lemieux and Niku down, go with Ves and have Petan-Dano-Chiarot in the PB. I'd love to see Niku make the opening day lineup but I don't see it right now, unless they waive Chiarot.

I like Bogo's lineup as it is, and I think I'd go for Lemieux on that 3rd line. We need an agitator who's physical, will drive the net, and Lemieux also has good speed. This could be a great line.

They may go with Vesalainen here, because they may not want him going to Europe, as they did with Ehlers. I'd let him go, because he'll only get better. You can't go wrong with Lemieux here. I might take Vesa over Dano though ?? -- he was invisible tonight when he should be fighting for a spot.

We'd be very OK with this line configuration IMO.

To be honest, I don't think
Yup, no idea how our coach can't stop his stupid seniority based special team appointments on D. It looked infinitely better the 20 seconds Morrissey was on it.
either Trouba or Morrissey have been very good on the PP in preseason. Trouba just isn't slick enough with the puck and Morrissey's passing has been off. You need quick tape to tape passes, and neither have done that consistently. I think Buff and Niku are probably the top two PP point men at this point.

Other topics...

KV was very good, I thought. Lemieux was also strong, but KV just has that extra skill and polish. Both looked better than Dano, to be honest.

Myers looked better on RD.

A better game for Poolman, but I think he's destined for the Moose to start. Niku, too. I think they have a tough decision up front. I'd put KV in the lineup, and Lemieux might have an edge on Dano and Petan, all things considered. But Lemieux is waiver exempt and KV has a Euro clause, so I think Lemieux is odd man out unless the Jets trade Petan or Dano.

Thought that Niku had his best game of the preseason. Hope Maurice gives him a shot.

Rolslovic showed flashes of skill but had a poor game by his standards. Vesalainen looked good but still needs some time to adjust.

Helle was left out to dry tonight. I don't blame him for the loss but a stop on one of their high quality chances could have kept us in the game.

Pretty sure that Poolman is going to be sent down to start the season. Hasn't shown enough to make the roster.

Laine had another strong game though he still hangs on to the puck a little too much.
I actually thought Niku wobbled a bit tonight. Maybe I was expecting more or hoping he would grab a spot. But he still had some lapses in concentration, which needs to be ironed out.

KVes showed a lot of good things. So did Lemieux.

Laine's best game. Little, too.

Hellebuyck had a tough game.

While Roslovic faded a bit as the game went on, I’ll say it here and now. Jack Roslovic is going to be a star in this league. Staring this year.
If given a shot, he will outscore Bryan Little this year. By next year, it won’t even be close.
_______________________________________________________

I have to agree big time with the Turtle on Roslovic. I think he'll get at least 50 -54 points this year, and over 60 the next year. He's got the whole game. I'm quite sure he'll surpass Little later this year, and leave him far behind next year. He's going to be "great"

Boy the guys were coasting by the third. Just looking like they wanted the preseason to be done. It wasn't very pretty.

I think it is very possible they do something with Petan, but at this point IMO it is unlikely they hold open a roster spot for a player who has never established himself as a regular and has missed most of camp. Pretty good chance he slips through with so much uncertainty surrounding his situation as all teams are trimming rosters.

Man- Hellebuyck had a real bad game !!! he looked like the Helle of 2016 -2017 where he couldn't stop anything. We should cut him some slack though as he posted a .943 % Save percentage last year -- "so he'll likely bounce back." He didn't get great help from the defence as well. Let's hope he comes out sharp for the regular season. I really feel good we have Brossoit as a "backup"--the guy looks "great." Don't have to worry about Comrie now.

I think he will be good. Not sure I see a star. But maybe I am just keeping my expectations lower for now. I still think he would be a better winger then Centre. I think he will be a very good player regardless. For now he still needs some work in the D zone as a centre, and will scare me a bit if he plays with Ehlers and a young rookie. They will hopefully be sheltered and he can grow his 2 way game. I personally see him developing into a slightly better and faster prime Little. A very good 2C that is scores at a 25ish goal 55-60 point pace. This season I think we see him mostly in a 3C sheltered role and pretty close icetime to Little. My bet is he finishes with around 45-50 points this year. Which would be excellent if him and Little both get around that. Would be strong C depth

I had such high hopes for Poolman. Once again, he had very few good touches tonight.

I've seen guys skate with flailing arms before, but not flailing legs. He quite simply is not good enough.

The Jets looked awful. The top line crap defensively and again trying to be too cute.

I can count the number of good 5 on 5 shifts that Laine had on one finger, it seemed like a guaranteed turnover anytime the puck was on his stick.

The entire D corps minus Morrissey and Trouba were a dog's breakfast.

He hasn’t been quite as steady as I hoped this camp but I still think he’s good enough to play in this league as a 5,6.

Now that the preseason is over. Hera are my preseason awards:

Best Jet: Buff

Biggest pleasant surprise: Suess

Best forward: Lowry

Best Dman: Buff

Best Line: Copp-Lowry-Tanev

Buff has been the best Jet this preseason and it's not really close. The bottom 3 Jets D are a huge question mark and concern for the season. 2nd line LD is a huge hole. We should have signed a guy like Dan Hamhuis to play in that hole. CLT has been very impressive. The Scheifele line hasn't shown the kind of attention to detail I would like to see from a #1 line. The Little line and esp the Roslovic line are question marks going into the season. I have faith that Perreault can drag the Little line to decent results but I am not sure what's gonna happen with the Roslovic line, that line might end up being the 4th line pretty soon in the regular season and playing like 10-12 minutes a night. The Jets may be forced to split up CLT and play Copp in the middle with Ehlers and Roslovic on that line.

Somewhere nice
The Jets pre season schedule is pretty bad with 3 back to backs.

The team looks like they are cruising to avoid injuries.

I just hope it dont backfire the first few games of the year. Where most teams role out their complete team last 1-2games.

1 week to polish
The System
And
Special teams.

Looks like Jets need to decide
If to keep Niku or Vesalainen.

Hard to keep both without losing someone in the waiver wires.

Im against losing players now to the wire.
Jets will need the depth all year and in the playoff.

Hope Roslo is able to step up so Jets trade deadline need is not as urgent.

Well said, and good post Phil Jets --I to am also opposed to putting any of our players on waivers if we could lose them. I don't know if the "waivers clause" kicks in for the pre-season or if it only applies to players being sent down during regular season play ? I'm sure someone knows this answer.

These are the players I believe to be waiver exempt

1) Lemieux - 1 more year

2) Vesalainen - probably 2 years ??

3) Niku - likely 2 years ??

Players likely not waiver exempt

1) Petan

2) Dano

3) Chiarot

I'm sure a couple of others.

I'd really like to see Lemieux on the team to add some physical presence and ride shot gun for Roslo and Ehlers, but would this cause exposing some of our players on the waiver line ??

I don't think we'd want to lose any of our "non exempt" waiver players.

3) Niku - 1 or 2 years ???

Im against losing players now to the wire.

Hope Roslo is able to step up so Jets trade deadline need is not as urgent.

Just not a very good one at the moment. Being a passable player makes you...……..Ben Chiarot.

Poolman has impressed me the least of all the Jets D core this camp, maybe because I expected a bit more.

The Jets played with some variation of the current D core for half the season last year, as well as a fair amount in the playoffs with Enstrom being out so often. I definitely get your sentiment and would like to see a better option for a #2 LD (ultimately Niku), but I'm not sure it's as dire as all this.

Bottom 3 are too talented to worry about all that much, especially if they can stay in a sheltered role. Having said that I can also see the scenario you do with Copp moving to C depending on how they do out of the gate. If it becomes a 10-12 minute a night line then it will have to change, Ehlers needs to see more ice than that, simply put.

I'm concerned with Hellebuyck. Anytime a guy gets paid you worry about his motivation going forward. Hellebuyck just got paid, and is having fun playing around with his GF. He's living the life of a rock star now. Hope his teammates can bring him back down to earth and help him focus on what is important. Hellebuyck's play is the difference between making the playoffs this season, or not. And the early results don't look good.

I don't really agree with you on Morrissey. He has done a great job with transitioning the puck and with zone entries on the PP. He also dis a good job at drawing the defender to the midde before passing it off to Ehlers who now had a lane to walk in and shoot on his goal. He was a bit off in the first preseason game bit that should be expected.
