balls...though that nice little dash kane and scheiffs had just before made my heart leap. its like WHY arent they playing together exclusively.

It was nice to see someone actually crossing the blueline WITH Kane on that play. Kane's really trying to make a few plays - just hope that his linemates will bury a few.

I think Hnidy should drop the mitts with Ward and teach him a couple things. Listening to Ward, you'd think Trouba was terrible, meanwhile Hnidy (a defenseman) is praising the heck out of Trouba, and just named him the hardest working Jet for the game.

Yeah, I think he played great out there for the most part tonight.

Hoping it was just a stinger on the blocked shot in overtime, he looked to be in some serious pain and wasn't putting much weight on it.

Kane sure missed Postma coming late on that 3-2 in OT, he would have been right in the slot releasing that sucker. Good game by our Rooks.

Just some thoughts while its still fresh in my head. These are my own opinions...

Frolik - good game by him. Responsible both ends....just curious who he finds the best chemistry with.

Tangradi - very strong camp and was one of our better players. I like that Noel put him as Sheifele's LW

Trouba - tonight solidified it for me that he is NHL ready. I really, really love his game.

Clitsome - I am of the opinion, aside from a couple plays, that I am very happy we locked him up for 3 years. Like his game

Postma - Man, where do you start. Terrible, terrible game. That is what is so frustrating about him. He is a feast or famine player. He was horrible

Kane - as usual, giving 100%.

Sheifele - impressed with his 200ft game overall. Totally ready to take the step.

Thorburn - solid game. Just wonder where he fits in.

Joki - I am done defending the guy. I just get the feeling he is trying too hard because he is trying to make up for last year. Was unimpressed.

Pavs - solid game and gave them a chance. GWG was a beauty so can't blame him there

Halischuck - really like him but barely noticed him tonight

Wright - positionally very good. Liked his game.

Seto- aside from his goal and a couple nice checks, an okay game. No complaints

Peluso - responsible 200ft game. No stupid penalties, even drew one. Good on the cycle.

Pardy - well, get ready to head home buddy. Like him but just not good enough.

Just some observations.

Any reason why Spooner made it through the game with his jersey tucked sans penalty? I noticed one shift that it wasn't tucked in the 3rd but the next shift he was back at it.

The announcers mentioned that he probably got a warning about it in the second but he ended up scoring and then assisting on the gwg with a tuck. Is this still a ****** new rule or do I not understand what constitutes a tuck?

Positives:

Trouba - Wow what a player. top 4 very shortly. Picks great spots to move the puck up. When he does make a mistake he realizes it very quickly and recovers. The fact that Noel has him playing big minutes and the PPQB on the #1 unit when guys like Buff, Postma, and Clitsome are available says a lot.

Scheifele - Faceoffs were much improved, seems very strong on the puck. Outmuscled two Bs at one point for the puck.

Pavelec - I have to say it, his game has improved drastically. His tracking of the puck is so much better, no more flopping around. I can only remember once he was on the ice.

PP - Much improved. Classic umbrella shape, and player usage was much better. Zone entries, puck posession, shot recovery are all leaps and bounds better than last year. Better net presence, I'm really excited about this.

PK - Much improved. More aggressive, not allowing the opposition to set up. When they do set up, the timing for moving out is perfect.

Negatives:

Scheifele - He played that 2-1 wrong as the backchecker

Stuart - Wow he was just terrible. Bad giveaways, bad zone coverage, on and on.

Penalties - How do we negate our PP like that over and over again?

I really worry about our basic skills. This team never seem to move as a five man unit. sloppy changes. Poor passing. And no patience. They are always swatting at pucks, they never seem to let it come to them.

Pavelec can not be allowed to rim the puck. He basically is a puck distributing centre for the opposing team. He passes to the opposing forwards and D with terrifying precision!

I am worried.

Agreed Bunk,I like your analysis.
Still think Peluso > Thorburn. More raw ability and 6 years younger.

Have to echo the thoughts on Trouba. I don't worry now that he won't get his minutes on the Jets this year. It's a small sample size, but IMO he's already better than Postma, Redmond, and Pardy, and looking more reliable than Stuart as well. If he keeps improving and acclimatizing to the NHL game at the rate he has been, he is going to be special by Christmas. Will still be some growing pains, but the potential is sky high.

Kinda liked having 3 lines that can score tonight. Waive pardy, send down postma, trouba stays up, pick up colborne from toronto for a pick to upgrade wright's offence.

LLW
Kane-Jok-Frolik
Colborne-Scheif-Seto

Sending down Postma exposes him to waivers and I think he'd definitely be picked up by another team. You'd be better off trading him to Toronto in your scenario.

Edit: Forget about my suggestion...Postma makes more than Colborne, so that doesn't help Toronto.

I have to agree, to me he's our #5 right now. He's either below Clitsome or above him. If he's below Clitsome, he will be above him very soon.

I'm glad they didn't give him a penalty. That is a stupid ass rule.
If they want to get rid of it then fine the team when a player does it.
If it is costing the team money the coach will sort it out.

Exactly. Though we are setting ourselves up well with the right line combos.

LLW
Kane Scheif Frolik
Tangradi Jok Seto
Halischuk Slater Peluso
Wright as 13th

Enstrom Buff
Trouba Bogo
Clitty Stuart
Postma as 7th

Not a terrible lineup. I'm just sick of Jok with Kane. In this instance, we'd be sending down Pardy, Thor and Redmond.

A few thoughts from the game. YMMV

Schiefele - I just don't see it with this guy. Aside from the goal, I was unimpressed. What am I missing that everyone seems to see? He falls all the time. All the time.

Trouba - thought he was the best defenceman the jets had tonight. No Enstrom and Bogo, but still, I don't see how you send this guy down. He should be in the top 4. He has the poise that OEL had in Phoenix in his first year.

Peluso - much better than I thought he would be. Same with Adam Pardy.

Buff - more bad than good. Next game will likely be the opposite.

Good post, this is pretty spot on with my assessment.

A couple more points:

I will retract my statement I think Noel is handling Scheifele better than I originally thought. It will take him about 10 to 15 games to fully get comfortable playing at NHL speed imo. Only change id make is putting him in Jokinin's spot on the pp as Olli really isn't bringing anything on it!

Kane had another solid game and him and Scheifele will form an excellent combo down the road. You can already see that the two have some innate chemistry together and I look forward to seeing it develop.

Olli, not sure what to say about the guy. He's been better but is still dragging his line down. I hope he has another gear to get two.

Trouba had a very strong game. He made his mistakes but he's so quick that he often is able to bail himself out. Ohh and he was much better than Hamilton tonight.

Buff- Same old Buff, if Trouba shines Id be looking to move him next offseason.

Pavs-Solid game no complaints.

Random thoughts:

-Thought Slater, Cormier and Thorburn played pretty solid all around.

-Scheifele looked a bit wobbly in the first half of the game, but finished quite well. Where did that speed come from? I know Bartkowski isn't the greatest skater, but it seemed as though Scheif found an extra gear on that play.

-Postma had a nightmare game. He gets into these funks where he just throws the puck around with zero timing. There were two moments where he had clear lanes to rush the puck or headman it, instead he tosses it to a guy 20 feet away who isn't even ready for the pass.

-Gooch was ok, not great though. Wasn't making the best decisions with the puck, a few possessions seemed to be dying on his stick.

-Actually thought Pardy had his best game of the preseason. Handled the puck with a bit of confidence, and showed some pretty good positional play.

-Trouba looks so good out there. Damn. The game seems to be slowing down for him, and he's making really sound decisions with the puck.

-Wright is a 13th forward at best. I have no idea what the coaching staff sees in him. His awareness and vision with the puck is so unbelievably bad, even as a bottom 6 grunt.

-I won't say much more about Jokinen, other than he seems like a good guy who works hard. I've never seen a C who seems so out of sync with the play. Remember Gretzky's quote about how great players go where the puck is going? Olli seems to go where the puck was three seconds ago. It's painful to watch, I wish Claude would just plant him on the third line in a simple dump-and-chase role.

-Overall, this was probably the most encouraging effort of the preseason.

Agree with this. Noel will probably switch Jok and Scheif; Tangradi and Halischuk; and Wright and Peluso. I would leave them exactly as you have them.
