If Boston wins tonight, the series probably starts Thursday. If Boston wins on Wednesday, the series probably starts Saturday. NBC/Sportsnet will have the Bruins in the Saturday 8 p.m. slot, no question.

If it's Columbus, it depends on what happens out West. St. Louis/San Jose probably gets the primetime slot, meaning a Friday start. Columbus/Carolina may be a more attractive matchup than Colorado/Dallas, meaning a Saturday start.

EDIT: A potential Game 6 in the Boston/Milwaukee NBA series is scheduled for Friday on ESPN (primetime).

I mean its perfect for us, he's just printing money for our franchise. We now have a long term identity that franchises usually have to pay a consultant to develop and it was gifted to us for free.

It will eventually be played out, and annoying, but it's manna from heaven at the moment. It sure beats the redneck hockey thing they had going in 2006.

It may end up sticking around precisely because it's organic, and because it started with people co-opting an attack on the team (and now the fanbase), rather than pure sloganeering from the marketing department.

The Redneck Hockey thing was just grating to my nerves, and being less engaged with the Canes at the time (I was living in Charlotte) I frankly found it to be kind of embarrasing to be associated with that as a hockey fan. Given the identity of the fanbase today, and the demographics of the Triangle in general, I think they put their money on the wrong horse with that whole campaign. You don't see anyone at games doing the "redneck" schtick anymore... surprise surprise, that contingent disappeared as soon as the playoff bandwagon stopped.

Whereas I can guaran-goddamn-tee you that in the year 2039 we will be see 30-somethings wearing newly-printed "vintage" Bunch of Jerks shirts and talking nostalgically about Storm Surges. That's the difference between marketing and culture.

Eye roll. So can somebody explain to me why we got so shafted with our second round schedule? I guess I really don't care at this point. Thurs versus fri/sat is not enough a diff for me to care about tbh.

Its crazy, I'm seeing Bunch of Jerks apparel literally everywhere around town right now. Being around here in 2002, 2006, and 2009, I can't recall the Canes ever having that amount of branding take over the region like this before. Sure, there were shirts and car flags before, but I'm specifically seeing the Bunch of Jerks stuff everywhere. The only times I really ever saw the Redneck Hockey stuff for the Canes was the sign a few fans made in the 2006 run that got air time on TV. In fact, the guys who dressed up as Dumb & Dumber back in 2002 felt more authentic to our fans than RH. That just felt too forced.

Not surprised, it seems like there's a line at every store in the arena to buy BoJ shirts during every game. At the end of this run, I wouldn't be surprised if they sold 50k+ of those shirts alone.

And that's before you realize they also made hats, pucks, shot glasses, car stickers and car magnets with the slogan as well.

As an aside, if we do get an outdoor game, you know the special uniforms are going to have every Name on Back be 'JERK'

I went to a festival a couple weekends ago in Charleston. Wore my Bunch of Jerks shirt. Nonstop high-fives and cheers all day. Even South Carolina is getting in on the action.

As much as I hate to hear that Martinook struggling, and as much as I would like them both out there together, Ferland saying he should be good to go for game 1 is good news.

We’ve had the same conversations about Ferland again and again, just talking in circles. All i’m going to say is that let’s hope he’s ready to go, and let’s hope the real Ferland stands up.

Its frequently sold out there. I’ve never quite understand how teams allow themselves to run out of trendy apparel during playoff runs. Maybe there’s some benefit to selling out and losing potential customers I don’t get. Shrug

eta: does anyone know where I can get the boj HAT? I’m not really into the shirts. Do they only sell them at PNC? Can’t find them anywhere online?

IMO, Ferland is ready, and likely more than ready. He hinted at coming back for game 4 of the Islanders series but they likely held him out as we obviously didn't need him at that time, and gave him that much more time to recover. I don't think we'll see him reinjure anything for at least 3 periods this time. :sarcasm:

I think in this case it's sheer demand and an inability to keep them in stock. The distributor that makes the shirts is showing them sold out as well.

I'm greatly amused to see this narrative doing a perfect 180.

When Ferland tweeted a while back that "maybe he was just at home rehabbing" (or something to that effect) I think it quelled some of the conspiracy theories. That and now we're going to the ECF, and turns out we didn't need him to do so, so maybe a little less angst focused in that direction.

I'm expecting Ferland to be dialed in. He's lost a lot of market value, imo, in the past few months between the declining production and the battles with injuries. He can make a lot of that back with a strong close; score a couple goals, throw a couple big hits and win a fight or two, and he can get back to Tom Wilson territory.
