Practice lines

I think Galy will impress and those naysayers will eat their words. This is the best lineup hes played with his entire career. He will be out to prove that he belongs.

I like the lines personally. Hyman back on 3rd line is best for this team. Work ethic will prove to be a mismatch as it was in the Edmonton series.

Galchenyuk on that prominent of a line seems consistent with giving the new player a good chance from the onset. There's always PP time as well/instead if such an ES opportunity doesn't work out all that well. Simmonds on the fourth line makes sense in that he is just returning to the lineup. We'll see how this goes.

8 points in 6 games with the Marlies, Galchenyuk definitely deserves a legitimate shot.

One reality about life, be it sports or business; if you don't reward effort and performance you will fail as an organization.

Merit should dictate who plays and who doesn't. In the unique season, players in and out of the lineup should be the rule, not the exception.

He deserves a couple of games to write his own story based on his history and work in the minors.

I said it in another thread. Galchenyuk will stick in the top 6, and score at a 30 goal pace for the remaining games.

He's going to be so pumped. He was misused on Ottawa and then waved. Now he finds himself on a line with Tavares and Nylander. Talk about falling up.

We finna bounce on that swerve with these for surely sire.
Galcheniuk will play there only for so long until dubas gets us the tsn/friedman predicted: Palmieri/E.Staal/ N.Foligno/Granlund/Forsberg top six candidate. That'll be fun too. Then we'll score-even-mo.
Dubas such a fine young man nowadays.

I really hope that Galchenyuk - Tavares - Nylander line works. But the line just seems really slow and is going to be bad defensively, I hope I'm wrong

If Galchenyuk becomes, anything close to, what he was projected to be when drafted. This is a major W for the Leafs. Imagine if he sticks on the 1st/2nd line this year, than goes onto score 30+ goals next season.

I am with you. Chucky has been around several teams the last few years. The chances that he all of a sudden figures shit out in Toronto seem remote. But, hey, I would love another good reclamation project story.

You don't want Thornton or Spezza playing center on any line anymore, and definitely not on one you want to be defensively reliable.

I understand your point of reasoning, but do we want Thornton on the 1st line though? Wouldn't having Hyman and Mikheyev on the wings should make up for those defensive issues? I'd say it's worth a try, lol

Thornton has been horrible for the past 5-7 games. He's a ghost out there, he's an anchor to the Matthews line, all he has been doing lately is turning over the puck.

And he's slow as hell, useless in the d-zone.

Hes good around the net..Behind it or in front of it...But thats about it. At least he can make a pass if someone is open. He isnt the worst option ever but we definitely need an upgrade.

Could not agree more. Thornton is an anchor on that line.

It's not scoring that we need. We need a 2-way forward.

Players like Joe Thornton who have 0 speed, 0 defensive game, 0 offensive game (aside from passing) should not be in our lineup.

We need a defensively responsible 2-way forward on the 1st line who is an outstanding playmaker.
It sounds like a lot to ask for, but, these players are dime a dozen in the NHL.
We can easily move a 2nd + 3rd + C-level prospect to acquire such a player.
