Power Rankings comedy

teams get bounced all the time.
but pretending that the Avs are somehow 9 levels above the Jets is just as absurd.
we roasted the Avs last reg season...
they had a .908 career goaltender..last year..CAREER ...908....
guy played .957 the last 4 playoff games against....
he plays 908? we score a couple PP goals? there's a much closer series....

Avs have had 1 deep run in the last 7 years..... yes it was recent...but lets not pretend they are some unstoppable juggernaut. Avs were bounced in the second round.. last year...by Dallas...in a series that was as equally lopsided(equally unequal?) as the Jets......
most had them as contenders...lowest preseason ranking I saw? 6th....

Or even funnier...if the Jets resign two easily replaceable rentals.. which we can do again this year 100% just like we did last.....they are a contender? funny that didn't power us up the rankings...

Dillon and Schmidt? a couple of easily replaceable journeymen players?... which again...we can easily add any time...

As for backup goalie? ...lol that's the hill the Jets died on? If we had resigned our backup...suddenly we are contenders?
I never liked Bones.... you can search my history..
but it's not like we suddenly jumped UP the rankings when he showed up....did we.... so how much of an effect does "losing" a coach like him make us fall down the rankings.

if you have a narrative and want to push it...that stuff can make you ignore the Jets.. but only if you want it to.
I don't think I'm trying to push any narratives here. Just saying that it wasn't unreasonable for someone to think the Jets were going to take a step back this year after losing some key personnel - especially after their ignominious defeat in the playoffs last year.

sorry I didn't mean you were..

I meant "you" as in the national media and "experts"

Um. Not much of that is accurate. We lost 4 to 1, and game 3 was ours until Stanley got consecutive penalties. I'm pretty sure getting swept is closer to an annihilation.
We replaced Dillon with Samberg. Which is favorable over singing.
We lost 2 too 6 forwards? They were free agent rentals. But ya, Vilardi got healthy and grew immensely. Relied on Perfetti also improving to varying degrees of success.

But obviously the team has proved your assessment wrong. Internal guys stepping up is great. Signing and overpaying guys is hit and miss much of the time.
Good lord...this wasn't "my assessment"!

I am saying it's not unreasonable for someone to look at the personnel losses and expect the Jets to be worse this year. You don't need some innate anti-Jets bias to think that. It's not a stretch to say that losing 4 roster players, the head coach and the best backup in the league would have a detrimental effect on the team.

It's also reasonable to think that the Jets' success last year was a bit of an outlier. They were a 95 point team the year before. They missed the playoffs entirely the year before that. They did put up 110 points in the regular season, but they sure didn't look like a 110 point team in the playoffs.

I don't know what everyone's so mad about! A real "don't shoot the messenger" thing going on here...

Sorry I'm bored in the dog days and here to discuss things....

as for your statements?

this 100%
"they did not look like a 110 point team in the playoffs".. so forever afterwards they are choke artist frauds who will be lucky to make it to a wildcard?
..
a 4 game outlier is suddenly definitive of Helle's play? or the Jets play? (and I say 2 1/2 because despite fuzzy memories...the jets were in games 1-3. and a lot of game 4... and they were in no way as bad as people want to say they were.... and again...i'm trying real hard not to talk about reffing...)

I mean c'mon... I'm sick of the BS narrative about the playoffs..... were the jets bad in those games? yes...did Helle sting a bit? yes.

Was that 4 game outlier enough to convince the world that the Jets were just lucky to make the playoffs and are perennial underachievers who will be lucky to make the playoffs again and are teetering on a rebuild(as a couple US publications had them this preseason)? Or they would never again win a playoff series ever. or Helle is just going to be a reg season Goalie with no hope of having a good playoff or winning a series?

and again it's not about the Jets...it's about the fact that other teams with every bit as suspect a record, and as many issues. and failings...are grabbing headlines in mediocrity while the Jets are not even mentioned while they sit Elite atop the west.....
