The power has gone out of the power play. What used to be almost an automatic goal or scoring chances this year has looked more like an electrical short than power play.

It’s more hockey by candlelight with this group and it’s like they’ve never played with each other before.

They have a strange aversion to shooting the puck. Are they going for the highlight of the night? Do they think they get extra points for beauty? Can Draisaitl only one time a puck from a 90 degree angle to the net? Has Bouchard forgotten that he has a literal cannon?

The Oilers need the PP clicking on all cylinders or their opponents can physically run them with impunity as it’s our only real weapon to prevent teams from running us out of their buildings. We’ve no physical threats and KK values hitting as much as having full dogshit bags inside his car on a hot summers day with no AC and the windows rolled up. So with an ineffective PP, McDavid’s target on his back grows exponentially. SHOOT. THE. PUCK.

So simplify things - a lot - and perhaps it’s time to replace 18 with 90 and 93 with 53 for a game or two. Either way we need to go from darkness to bright lights on the PP and today will be as good a time as any to light up the Stars. Without a functioning PP it’ll be tough to take down Dallas.

Fearless Prediction
3-2 Oilers but I’m not confident in that prediction at all…

Agree 100% about the PP, but I think KK values hitting, we just don’t have that kind of makeup of players currently. He knows they won’t be bangers every game, so as long as they are engaged in other ways, finishing checks, etc, and we are playing to our strengths, we should be okay for the regular season. We saw that the team can ramp up the physical game in the playoffs when required, so I’m fine with that.
Sure I’d like to see a more physical team on a nightly basis, just now how we are built.
