What would the asking price for McCann start with? I think he would be a good fit here and would help the team until the final year of his contract when you move him at the TDL.
I don't want to help Seattle get worse as they might be in the mix for McKenna. I know this is a loser's mentality but to me, McCann isn't worth compromising a shot at a true game changer.

Not sure how accurate these estimates are (the very exact numbers their model spits out are a delight though)

Yeah some of those feel a little low unfortunately.

I would take the Marchand, Bennett and Nelson contracts from those easily.

3 years only for Marchand and Nelson would facilitate our forward prospects transition super well.

Bennett would be 34 for at the end of his contract, which isn't ideal but he would bring a lot of what we dont have.

Really good Duchene contract as well actually. Any of those 3 year contracts are the sweet spot again, like last year.

Jones #3, Donato #5 on The Athletic's latest trade board (ranked by buzz/league interest).

Get something good Kyle

How about donato to OTT 6-4 200 lb Blake Montgomery. Very similar to pridham in OHL 39 games 21g 24a. Moved leagues. REALLY Good skater going to Wisconsin. That’s better than getting a pick IMO. IE someone closer to NHL

Speaking of Ottawa, I’d try for Josh Norris. Decent player when healthy, would go a long way to getting us to the floor. Could be cheap because of injury history. If he does get hurt, well who cares? Hawks aren’t going anywhere, and when they eventually do he can be an LTIR candidate.

Now for an unrealistic target, Rantanen for Jones, trade is 1 for 1.

Funny you bring up his name. One of the players I have been thinking they should target this off-season

Sens have Pinto and Grieg at 2 and 3 C going forward too. They have a brutal prospect pool and Stutlzle is buddies with Reichel

I would be happy to offer them something like Toronto first, Reichel and Kaiser

Hawks once added a very talented but often injured forward from Ottawa in the midst of their last rebuild named Martin Havlat. Maybe history repeats itself.

I wouldn't have any interest in Norris at all. Don't forget he still has 5 more years after this season at a 7.9M cap hit for a 55 point producer per 82 game pace over his career so far. His upside if he does stay healthy isn't worth taking on that contract, IMO.

I would sure hope by years 4-5 of that deal the Hawks are competing for the playoffs and I'd hate to see them paying 7.9M for an injury prone 3C who is entering age 30 and 31 seasons.

Just go sign a UFA who isn't injury prone. Bedard needs stability with his line mates and the depth around him.

Thinking outside the box on a Jones trade, as Edmonton will never win a Cup with Skinner/Pickard in net.

Jones (no retention) + Soda
for
Kulak, Skinner, 2026 1st, and their 2024 pick Sam O'Reilly

Edmonton has 5.1M in cap space according to Puckpedia and after parting with Kulak and Skinner that puts it at 10.95M. Soda and Jones combine for 10.46M.

Jones is a Bowman guy, obviously. Jones waives to play on a bonafide Cup contender and McDavid. Maybe the only Canadian city he'd consider.

Just need one of Jones or Nurse to agree to play the left side. Edmonton also now has Nurse/Jones for the right side if they decide to move on from Bouchard after this season who is an RFA.

Hawks get the added benefit of using Mrazek as the main starter over last 23 games and getting on SJ's tank level.

Soda right now is our Goalie of the future. I would not trade him. Mzarek I would and then sign a backup for this season and hope brossett is good for next. Soda is really one of the bright spots this year. I would say allen and Reichel as well but both got stracated. one for having a good game (when we were terrible) and one for having a bad game. thou has been solid recently.

Cap won’t work

Unless I am missing something, the Oilers can take Jones full cap at the TDL and wouldn;t need to send any cap back to make it work for the remainder of this season. At the TDL, Jones would count 2.1ish million in cap for the remainder of the season. The problem with Edmonton is that Bouchard is going to get a big raise this Summer (and be the #1RHD over Jones) and then you have McDavid due for a substantial raise the following Summer. I would be real hesitant to add 9.5 Jones as a 2nd pairing RHD until there is much greater clarity on Bouchard and McDavid...but I suppose Stunley Blowman does like his guys.

Can't see Jones waiving for Edmonton. And really can't see Edmonton moving on from Bouchard.

I wouldn’t want anything to do with Bouchard’s next contract. Especially with Ekholm turning 35 in two months.

But Bouchard doesn’t really strike me as a Bowman kind of defender. Who was the closest we had to him…. Campbell who he traded eventually that Talon signed?
