Few days ago Friedman speculated that Maccelli might be for sale. What is his value? Do the Coyotes trade him for picks or prospects or do they need a player back? I know they have a lot of picks and prospects in their system, but if they'll trade Maccelli for picks or prospects, they can immediately trade those assets for another player.

This season Maccelli has only 18 points, but last season he had 57 points.

Curious about this too. And wonder if Valimaki could be added to a deal considering they just waived him and seemingly aren't too scared to lose him. Both seem like good "change of scenery" candidates to me.

Time of year is going to play a role in our needs acquisition. As it stands now, I feel like long term we need a top 6 center who plays with grit, a top 6 LW to play with Cooley and Guenther (this may be solved internally over the next 2-3 years, a short term filler may be the best solution), and a middle pair LD, ideally good defensively and compliments our breakout.

I expect Carcone, Cole, Bjugstad, and Kerfoot to be gone next season. Maatta might be resigned? With any luck, But, Simashev, and Iginla area ready for action. A top 6 C and bottom 4 LD would be the medicine we need.

Now does Bill feel this way? I hope so fellas, I hope so.

Seems reasonable that he could be available but they certainly don’t need to move him for “cheap”. He was a 60 point playmaker for the 146 game over the past two years prior to this season, he’s still only 24 and he’s cheap for his production for another year after this one.

They can easily keep him rather than sell low, see if he bounces back. But I’m sure they would listen to hockey offers.

In the offseason Matheson for Macelli + 2nd/3rd

The Canadiens are pretty flush with wingers for next season.

They currently have Caufield, Laine, Slafkovksy, Heineman, Demidov, Anderson, Gallagher, Newhook and possibly Dach, if he's not at centre.

Wouldn't make any sense at all to trade a defenseman for a winger, and it definitely wouldn't make sense to move Matheson unless they were doing so to address a need, which acquiring Macelli would not.

Maccelli for Soucy, pick? Two players who were great last season but are struggling this year.

If this were on the table, that'd be a coup from a Vancouver perspective. But i somehow doubt Utah would be enticed to go for that...and Soucy has a NTC this year that would probably complicate that anyway.

Mark my words - Maccelli will be a Canuck at the trade deadline. Soucy for Maccelli as a base - 2 guys that are much better than they've shown this season but address the needs of Utah and Van respectively.

As a firm believer of surrounding the Leafs’ superstars with complementary players, I have had my eyes on Macelli to be Matthews’ running mate for some time.

I’d offer Robertson + 3rd. Not opposed to adding a bit more to get it done.

Sign and trade Marner.

Maccelli would probably feast on Matthews wing.

But lol...sign and trades aren't real in the NHL. There's "wink wink, nudge nudge" deals largely agreed upon before trades by letting players/agents talk with another team before a trade. But there's way too many NTC/NMC protection thrown around on practically every single megadeal like what Marner is seeking, to just sign 'em and trade 'em.

Back to the Robertson + 3rd though...what exactly does that do for Utah? Maccelli >>> Robertson who is approaching "throwaway" territory. And a 3rd is basically nothing.

Just feels to me like a good buy low candidate to try on and I just want them to move on from Matheson and use assets to get a better D in the offseason. Also am mostly out on Newhook at this point, would also probably just straight swap them if Utah had interest

Utah turns that down. No need for Matheson.

More likely scenario is Maccelli for Dach.
Utah's D is decent but he would be a pretty big upgrade second pair left D. Definitely wouldn't do Macelli for Dach

Buffalo and byram would be your target then

Armstrong isn't going to fire sale Maccelli at the TDL on a down year. He takes forever to make trades, I can see a move this summer to upgrade D or C, trading Maccelli or Crouse as part of a package. It takes Armstrong forever to make any trade.

I think Tampa would be a fit.
As a Lightning fan I agree. They are rarely ever linked to players that aren't really good/talented but they don't have the right assets to get Tuch and Boeser might not be a great fit considering that he's probably not fast enough to keep up with their fast paced offense. I don't know exactly what the Utahns would want but this kind of feels like it's up Tampa's alley.

That 2LW need is why I wish bear would try Maccelli with Hayton and Guenther instead of Carcs, just to see.

Wrong type of D for utah. This is someone to be defensively responsible first and foremost and support Durzi.

If we have to go the trade route, I agree. My hope is for Gavrikov on a 5 year deal, but I think that's a long shot. I get the sense he wants to win, and I think we're still 2-3 years out from doing any damage in the playoffs.

I just deleted 2 paragraphs on Byram and my concerns. None of them have to do with his play, age, or contract. I've decided I'm dumb and we should make a deal. That said, we have little I'd assume Buffalo wants. They should be moving multiple good players for better players. The pool is stacked to the brim and they already have the youngest roster in the league.
