Potential Trade Targets (2025 edition)

  • Donato + Dickinson to Toronto for Minten at the deadline

  • Jones to Florida for Samoskevich in the offseason

These are the key trades Kyle needs to make

Lol people upset about this. What's better? Us getting potentially nothing for Hall, or getting a 3rd? There is no guarantee that a team even wants Hall at 3mil, let alone 6. We got something for nothing, basically. Lol people bitch about everything.
Especially when we have prospects in the pipeline like Lardis, Spellacy. Pridham and Mustard recently in the 3rd round.

What does Buffalo even want? They can’t rebuild, like are they looking for vets? Who even knows at this point.
They have a real need for R D. I wonder how much retention it would take to trade. Seth Jones for cozens

I hope Kyle is saving his retention spot for a solid move. Otherwise, he should’ve kept hall and retained on him for another 2026 3rd. It sounded like they offered the third just to retain half of RANTS contract

there top 8 scorers are 22-28 outside of zucker, thompson. Petrinka, zucker tuch dalhin, power bryam mcleod. if he wants to make the playoffs in the next few years they are way farther along. I would say 2 years IMO.

Ya maybe, im just not trading 1st round picks or top prospects for him.
Oh I’m definitely not doing that. Our firsts are way too valuable.

Like if they want the leafs first though, then by all means. I’d offer them a quantity package with that first and a few lower prospects, but that’s probably not getting it done.

Even the Leaf first I dont know. Dude makes 7mil dollars for 6 more years and is a 40-50pt player outside of one season. A 2nd and a B level prospect? Sure, take a chance.

I know most teams would not want to retain for 5 years. If I'm the GM of hawks and the cap is going up 25 mil over the next 3 seasons. there is no way we are ever going to get anywhere near the cap. Here is my thinking:
1) it is going to be so hard to get top UFA's to move the next few off seasons because they are going to get paid and that extra year will be huge. Marner and rantaneen might 15mil from there own teams now. that extra year is 15 mil. So planning on saving money for players that become high end UFA seems unlikely.
2)next year we will have all 3 of our rentention slots so using all of them over the next few years seems less and less likely both because we are not going to be sellers and teams will have space to take contracts.
3)what players on the hawks will need to get paid in the next 5 years that could be a big number? Bedard, thats it.
4) the return for Jones 50% retained would be huge compared to no retention. we do not need middle of the road returns we have so much middle of the road talent right now we do not need anymore.

I cannot come up with one good reason not to retain 50% other then the actual money paid by the owners which of course I do not care about that. we are a big market team with a huge stadium and a Original 6. they can spend close to the cap!

if anybody has a good reason not to I would love to hear it?

If Sabres are just shuffling the deck they could trade Powers or Byram for Center/Winger help and swap Korchinski for Cozens??

Not really sure what Cozens cost is but his upside and 7x7 is nice.

Fits the timeline. Yes he’s struggling bad right now, but there could still be something there. Also helps hit the floor especially if Jones goes out the door.

Seems going off memory quite a few guys have left Buffalo and got it together, and Reinhart and ROR really come to mind without digging into it.

Granted, Cozens wouldn't be jumping into a lineup with better linemates like Reinhart did, but for the right cost and especially given our poor C situation, I'd be open to the idea.

I don't think I'd do a Korchinski for Cozens swap at the moment. Cozens has more upside but we still really don't know enough about any of our prospects to punt on them.

My main Korchinski target is Seattle. They have forward prospects/young players but are weak on D prospects/young players. Korchinski played for the WHL team in Seattle so there's some familiarity there. Ron Francis is a stingy trader though. One of those guys afraid to make a deal if he thinks it could turn out bad. GM Kyle Davidson might be as well. So I dunno if it would happen, but I think, particularly if Hawks draft Schaefer, that'd be the most logical 1-for-1(ish) swap.

Why on earth would we give up Korchinski for Cozens?
depends where we end up in the draft or how they feel about Kaiser Del Mastro Allan or free agent possibilities.

If we have Shaefer and Vlasic then you have the chance to move on from a strength position to help a weak position.

The 7 million cap don't scare me. With the cap going up as much as it is, 40-50 pt guys will be making that soon enough and Cozens has plenty of upside to be more than that still at just 23. I would jump if they would take a deal of the Toronto 1st, or Reichel as the center piece and add lesser prospects or (non first rounder) picks. Something like the Toronto 1st and next years Toronto 2nd or Reichel and the Hawks '25 2nd for Cozens would be a really good move for the Hawks if Buffalo would bite. Hell for a right shot center with some size, snarl and improving on faceoffs I would be adding any of Kurashev, Kaiser, or more picks to make it happen.

Yeah but if you're moving Korchinski, you target someone better than Cozens

Given Buffalo has been drafting top 10 for what seems like forever now not to mention 1 OA twice, I'd imagine they're going to want a somewhat established NHLer at this point. I don't think Reichel has any value either beyond swapping him for someone also struggling.

I would think the only realistic player from Chicago that Buffalo would entertain would be Vlasic, and that would be an easy no from me.
