Speculation: Potential TDL adds we can get?

No way I am trading Swaggy to Carolina. I have been a Panthers fan too long to know how that’s going to work out. He’d score multiple game winning goals in the eastern conference playoffs, with the last one coming in OT of game 7. After the Cats had given up a 3-0 series lead. Nope, nope nopity nope.
exactly

I think the only way this happens is if Rantanen has told Carolina he will not re-sign there straight up, and if he is willing to take a big discounted contract.

I am shocked that certain people would trade Swaggy. He is the ultimate Mr. Clutch in the POs!! Who cares if he only has 20 goals/50 points in the regular season? Him and MT scored the most important goals in Panther history! Same goes for Bennett. We do not need Rantanen.
I don't disagree at all but y'all do realize, I hope, that there's a vast difference between "if it happens it might look like this" vs "this is what I want to happen".

I'm the guy who added 23 to the list of players, singular (Bennett), who actually play better in the playoffs. You can look it up. ;)

I really don't mind getting Rantanen as a rental. Repeating Cup win is difficult, and we'll need all the help we can get. He's a playoff beast and if he doesn't cost Carter/Samo/Lundell then that'd be fabulous. I'm not sure how realistic it is to land him without any of those pieces though.

If we swap him for Carter, it tells me Zito wants more cap room. That'd be a tough pill to swallow though. I'd be a downgrade to trade Carter and end up with UFA Ehler at the same price or something.

You know I'm never going to pass on a chance to shit on New Jersey but that aside that's a horrible trade. It's definitely a seller's market. A 2nd and mid prospect for Dumoulin is crazy, fleece by Anaheim.

Like the idea of recouping picks for retained cap space.
Wish Zito would confirm Bennetts new deal though:(
Friedman alluding to the fact Benny and Zito were close to a deal early this season but Benny may have seen the cap rising and has increased his previous ask...

There's a LOT to unpack here FHN

That's what I've been saying all along...

But pretty sure Georges is out to lunch on the first pick thing...

We have one left, either the 2027 or the 2026 or the 2025 even though this last one is less likely... The one Calgary doesn't get (2025 top-10 protected that slides to a 2026 if it is) can be dangled because Chicago got an optional one (2026 which becomes a 2027 if we don't own our 2026) !

So as always, our great GR (that I like btw) is making a blatant mistake that would be easily avoidable if he thought about it before typing...

People dreaming about Rantanen are probably the type of fans who just use basic stats for player evaluation. Yeah he is considered a superstar and got 100+ pts twice, but:

1) he has played LOTS of 5v5 minutes with Mackinnon and Makar on a team that's oriented to maximise usage of talent of their most offensively skilled players to outscore opponents because they often don't have good enough goaltending and/or team defense to win games like Maurice Panthers since last season. Rantanen has played 15-17 minutes per night 5v5 in the last few seasons, while our best forwards usually play 13-14 5v5 minutes. And Rantanen 5v5P/60 rates are actually... quite similar to Verhaeghe.

2) He has significant edge in PP points to Verhaeghe, while also playing 80% of PP time, spending most of it with Mackinnon and Makar on consistently excellent PP unit. Our best forwards get 60-70% of PP time.

3) He has played a lot of minutes in COL against empty net, and got so many points there. While again, playing with Makar and Mackinnon - and something makes me think that the latter is the biggest driver there.

4) He is not a two-way forward by any means, not a speedy player, and his forechecking qualities are nothing special.

I would've like getting Rantanen if 1) team had more significant drop in offensive skill after Barkov, Tkachuk, Reinhart 2) there weren't any questions about how he would fit there considering system and role 3) he was ready to extend at 10M*8 max.

He’d have to take something like 10per x 8yrs, same aav as Barkov. Even then, that’d most likely mean no more Bennett and/or Ekblad next year. If that’s the case, no point in trading samo++ since you’d now be losing two forwards come next season. At that point you’d trade Bennett for him now and keep samo longterm. Bennett. Also, can he play LW just as well? We already have Reinhart and tkachuk at RW, I know chucky has played LW here including when Erod plays on the 2nd I believe but I think he prefers RW. Not to mention the intent would be to play him with Barkov in this hypothetical but I wouldn’t want to move Reinhart away from him. If he could play LW just as comfortably then that’d make things easier. It’s just likely Ekblad isn’t here next year. I doubt Zito is paying jones 7per to play on the 2nd line. So unless Ekblad took like what forsling makes but even then, maybe Zito doesn’t want to sign him to 7-8yrs.

I don’t even think the hurricanes would trade him for Samoskevich + ‘26 conditional 1st (if we have the pick). Especially within the conference and to us no less. Only way I see it happening is if Bennett or Verhaeghe were involved. That’s pretty much the only way.

He was on my shortlist, that’s funny  for our 4C

I have to add to the consensus here, do not trade, or even dangle, Verhaeghe. As has been stated, he is a clutch playoff performer who is having a quiet year.

While Rantanen may be a good scorer, so is Carter. Rantanen doesn't seem to be lighting it up in Carolina as he has 1 goal, two assists, and is a -2 in his last 5 games (per nhl.com)

In addition to giving up Verhaeghe, it would mean no Bennett if Rantanen signed. Playoff Bennett scares the crap out of the opponents. That is an intangible that doesn't show in the stats the calculator boys like to use for players value.

No to Rantanen, yes to Carter and Sam.
