Speculation: Potential TDL adds we can get?

Wed give up and pay too much for rantanen, who imo i think is better than CV, but is he that much worth it?
Nah

I wouldve traded the first we gave for SJ to him even as a rental though, a dude like that would make us an offensive power house and with more ozone time, less time for everyone to expose our defense, and still maybe have Knight

But since we got SJ, have like 5mil in cap space, i see us getting some 4th line depth or another 6D or using it as retention to get some picks cause the cupboard is bare
I think the Jones trade was more to replace Ekblad. I don't think Ekblad is coming back. Wanting an 8 year deal when his career may be over in 4 years is not something palatable to me, I don't think it is for Zito either. I will laugh when he signs a 7 year deal elsewhere though.

as much as i make fun of him ill miss ekblad quite a bit if he leaves

Dont blame guys too much for getting what they can money wise, but hopes he signs a team friendly deal here, but if Jones slots up wont be too bad, but then wed need another RHD for the 2nd again next year

Which is why the Ristolainen with retention has me more and more intrigue each day ! ;)

Good luck getting anyone else to extend with a hometown discount if we trade Swaggy before his extension kicks in.
Vegas doesn’t seem to have issues with that.

Swaggy would to waive anyway and it’s not like we would threaten him with waivers or anything lol

Let’s start with the basics, Rantanen isn’t worth $12M or anywhere close. Zito agrees with this I’m sure. And understands more than everyone here about the locker room.

So all this talk about MR to FL is … fake news.

I was thinking about this just now. Carolina doesn't need more physicality, they're perennially in search of offense. I would dangle Verhaege + 1st round pick. I don't think Samo is a proven enough commodity for them.

Obviously, 23 would need to agree and I would ask for a short period to negotiate a Barkov/Tkachuk level AAV extension.
No way I am trading Swaggy to Carolina. I have been a Panthers fan too long to know how that’s going to work out. He’d score multiple game winning goals in the eastern conference playoffs, with the last one coming in OT of game 7. After the Cats had given up a 3-0 series lead. Nope, nope nopity nope.

Exactly this. Verhaeghe isn't going anywhere, that would be Zito shooting himself in the foot and destroying all the goodwill they've built up in recent years.

If we trade for Rantanen, it'll be for Mackie plus other prospects and picks. I could then see them sign him for 8x$10M AAV (taxes, winning, playing with Barkov/Lundell). That likely means Bennett or Ekblad will be gone and Zito has already prepared for this scenario with Lundell or Jones ready to step up. I'd guess Ekblad is the odd man out, but depends on how much Bennett asks for, and then the rest of the roster builds from there.

I don’t see any more in season trades for D honestly unless Zito brings back Gudas retained
Agreed. And Jakob Chychrun is UFA in a few months, will only cost money. He's four years younger and a better player than RR. Ryan Lindgren is another possibility, along with Henri Jokiharju. We should be trying to get younger.

There's a LOT to unpack here FHN

The Panthers are expected to start him (VV) Saturday against the sinking Buffalo Sabres.
So, for trading purposes, the Panthers do not have a first-round pick to move until 2028.
The Panthers could trade players on their NHL roster, of course, but GM Bill Zito and coach Paul Maurice like what they have so that’s not happening.
Zito told FHN during the summer that they have a good relationship with Devine and that he is expected to sign with the team.
What is expected is that the Panthers recoup some draft capital by facilitating trades for other teams by retaining money.

I don't mind leveraging cap space to get back picks if there are no other impactful moves to make.

Rantanen is a pipe dream IMO. I would like to see if Boeser is available for a reasonable return. He'll cost significantly less than a Rantanen both in trade and re-signing.

I don't see why Florida couldn't still trade the 2027 pick. It would be similar to the conditional 2026 pick that was sent to Chicago. If don't have the 2027 pick, then it becomes a 2028 pick.

Hanifin is younger and a better all around defenseman. Montours only real edge is being RHD.

Outside that one year he scored 70, Monty was overvalued by the Kraken
Sure which is why he got an extra year and more money.

It's what someone would pay on the open market hence market value.
