I was thinking about this just now. Carolina doesn't need more physicality, they're perennially in search of offense. I would dangle Verhaege + 1st round pick. I don't think Samo is a proven enough commodity for them.A Rantanen trade scares me that we’ll lose one or more of Lundell, Bennett, Samo. Mackie would be fine for a signed Rantanen but for a rental eh.
I actually forgot about Verhaeghe. I can see Carolina being interested but is trading him for Rantanen going to be worth it? Mikko hasn’t looked the same since leaving Colorado and to keep him will cost more than anyone else on the team in cap hit. I know Swaggy is having a down year but I don’t see the point moving him for what could be a more expensive but marginally better upgrade. Plus you don’t want to mess around too much with the locker room chemistry this team has.I was thinking about this just now. Obviously, 23 would need to agree and I would ask for a short period to negotiate a Barkov/Tkachuk level AAV extension.
I'm sure Zito would ask the Finns about MR and a potential fit. I can't imagine it wouldn't be at least a decent match from a locker room standpoint.I actually forgot about Verhaeghe. People also want Rantanen and his 12M+ asks when our GM is known to understand how to allocate your dollars in a salary-cap world…
People are strange, or should I say stupid. Some people don’t understand the sports, and even less so the business side of it.

Learn to read.
bye
Swaggy just signed and has an NMC, so bringing it up makes no sense.
Actually, no he doesn't. It kicks in next year. So, there's one possible hurdle overcome https://puckpedia.com/player/carter-verhaegheSwaggy just signed and has an NMC, so bringing it up makes no sense.
I would not include Lundy. Or Samo. And, I would want MR extension around a $10M or AAV. That's my framework.Hey buddy… That’s how I talk and make my points… Stop taking everything personal, there’s atleast 3 of you who brought up Rantanen and two others who talked about trading Swaggy…
I can read… Window or not, Rantanen is asking for 12M+, so now that you have discussed with his agents during this little window, what do you do ?
Trade Swaggy AND Lundell ? Because that’s your 12M there…
Let Benny walk and trade Swaggy for Rantanen ?
The maths doesn’t add up, and Zito won’t give top-dollars for a winger long-term when we have questions about our D, our second-line C spot, and goalie-tandem…
Go back to reading and believing Eklund if you can’t take my comments without feeling personal about them.
We call each other idiots and stupid all the time around here… Remember we are 20 years+ Panthers fans on this board, you have to have a certain-level of stupid to endure that franchise !
Making no sense… Isn’t that the definition of stupid ? LOOOOL

No, CV's NMC kicks in NEXT year with the new deal.

We're rumored to be in the running for MR. They won't be much interested in futures unless they already have a deal lined up to flip picks. It's just speculation at this point but since we're in the conversation might as well try and figure out what a deal might look like.
People are really discussing trading Swaggy here ?

Trading Swaggy pfffffffffffff…
I’m out.
I don't want him as a rental unless he's crazy cheap and the Canes won't do that deal. So, it's trade/extend or bust for me. I hate rentals. Call it Chiarot Syndrome.I don’t see Swaggy being traded and it’s not because of his clause in his next contract…
He is just one of Zito’s first reclamation projects, was a playoffs hero for the last three years. I just don’t see it… Zito can make the hard moves and he isn’t married to his players, but we ain’t Vegas.
That’s why I don’t see a Swaggy-trade as being possible in the next couple of years atleast…
As for Rantanen… I’m all for it, he was the one guy I wanted in his draft-year and was pissed to see the Avs snatch him one spot before us… But explain it to me.
Why would Mikko signed a 10M/AAV with us, when he wouldn’t settle for a MacKinnon type of deal (12.6M/AAV) with his original franchise ? Why ?
Taxes ? Finns ?
…
I don’t think it’s happening, even if I love the player… And if it happens, I can’t see it being anything else than a rental. We would have to sacrifice too much of our TEAM-balance to make one player fit long-term IMO.
Wed give up and pay too much for rantanen, who imo i think is better than CV, but is he that much worth it?
Nah
I wouldve traded the first we gave for SJ to him even as a rental though, a dude like that would make us an offensive power house and with more ozone time, less time for everyone to expose our defense, and still maybe have Knight
But since we got SJ, have like 5mil in cap space, i see us getting some 4th line depth or another 6D or using it as retention to get some picks cause the cupboard is bare

MR has held off extending b/c he isn't comfy in Carolina (yet). But if he's got a built-in support network of Finns, that could change the equation. Yeah, taxes help as NC does have a state income tax.
CV is the only one on our roster who makes sense AND doesn't create a hole if moved. We're reportedly in the running so I'm trying to fit some pieces of the puzzle together. Chances are this doesn't happen anyway and even if so, it could look vastly different. But it is fun to speculate.
I'd like to get some work done now and will be accepting mea culpas on the lack of NMC/NTC for CV.![]()
This makes no sense to me, because you’d either trade for him as a rental or for the intention of signing him longterm.
He’d cost way too much just to be a rental since we don’t have the picks or prospects to make that happen so it’ll take roster players. We’re not trading Lundell and I doubt Samoskevich too just for a rental, as good as he is.
And I don’t think they’d sign him longterm. He’s asking for way too much, would make a good chunk of change more than Barkov does, and I just don’t see the point if that’s the case. We already have our top guys locked in. Barkov, Reinhart, tkachuk, Verhaeghe, even Lundell. And they’re signed at reasonable cap hits. Just add depth. That top end talent is fantastic so just continue adding depth with the available and increasing cap space. Not to mention we’ll need to either re-sign Ekblad or find another top-4 D. Since they have Lundell, would they entertain sending Bennett there if he’s asking for too much? Or the reverse, if they have a deal lined up for Bennett, do they trade Lundell? I don’t see either realistically happening.
The rental option would be the more likely scenario but you’d need to trade samo++. Similar to Tippett for giroux but I was ok with that one. They went all in that year and I was cool with it and we lost that gamble. I know our team is completely different now vs then but would they entertain a similar move? If they’re worried that they may not be able to keep Ekblad and/or Bennett, maybe he does swing for the fences while he still has this roster? I don’t see it but damn that’d certainly be interesting
Risto has slightly better numbers than schmidty despite being on that ass flyers team, hed def be a solid rock here plus being a RHD. Also why not collect another Finn?Zito should target a Laughton + Ristolainen @50% kind of deal…
We would be LOADED.
Trade the f***ing empty-calories Latvian with a first, a B-prospect, a second and a couple of thirds for that package.
But Ristolainen at 2.6M or something for the next two years would give quite the right-side D if we manage to keep him out of the top-4…
Not sure how a Kulikov - Ristolainen pair would look.
But I’d like to get one more RHD and a good forward… Jokiharju would be another great insurance plan, and put some pressure on Ekblad’s negociations.
