Yeah I'm ok with no goalie trade this year? I don't really get the urgency, if most teams' #1 goes down they're screwed. Driedger has been terrible since he tore his ACL and honestly doesn't deserve the call up but can he go 4-4 in the 8 starts he'll get and open doors in the playoffs? Yes. Definitely need a 1B for next year though.

Since we have lots of cap space now - if Chucky stays on LTIR until the playoffs - and dwindling trade resources, one option would be to use a retention slot to help someone else (Western Conf) facilitate a big trade. We could greatly increase our return and/or use less assets to acquire.

I don't see using all of the available cap space on acquisitions so this would
leverage our space to maximum effect.

Yeah I mean, we'll probably ride Bobrovsky in the POs like we did last year.

Dreidger should probably get a decent amount of starts (particularly near the end of the season) if only to rest Bobrovsky for the POs

No he doesn't. Barkov, Tkachuk, Forsling, Reinhart have all signed below market value contracts. Carolina has offered Rantanen something like $13m AAV. That is not a ballpark where Zito would like to operate.

I think what kind of forward Zito targets at the TDL is a pretty strong indicator on what the team truly believes Chuckys timeframe is.

If they go for a true top 6 option, that will mean we may not see him again this season IMO

We have like 0 assets left. Trading samo was a possibility for a top-4 D but I don’t see them trading him for another forward. Depending on how they want to go with Ekblad and Bennett contract wise, they can’t really add another forward who makes good money unless it’s a pure rental and we don’t have the assets to make that happen, nor are they giving up samo was a rental. I assume a 4th line add (preferably a center) and maybe a 3rd line winger but they could easily still with either boqvist or samo as the 9th forward and the other on the 4th so a 3rd liner isn’t a necessity or anything. Our best assets are what? Our 2nd in the ‘26 draft and a select few prospects? Don’t know what that could return

Well… A first and a B-prospect generally returns some of the highest rentals available at a deadline.

Would like Bill to hold on to it for next year though !
