What if the Panthers trade for all the guys on LTIR then bring them all back for the start of the playoffs.

Braden Schneider maybe? Not gonna be a Montour replacement but I could see him do well with Mikkola

Idk what we’d have to pay to get him though.

Would love to have him but would be fairly expensive I’d imagine. I’m sure they’d want Lundell or a strong D coming back. We don’t have a D to part with and I doubt they’d be interested in Ekblad. I don’t think we’d part with Lundell even if we can re-sign bennett. I mean I’d love if Samo and some picks gets it done but I highly doubt it.

That’s kinda the dilemma in general for us and finding a puck moving top-4 D in season. None of the guys who are worth while would come cheap, and I don’t think zito is keen on parting with any of his established top-9 guys up front. It’s already going to be hard to fill that 2nd RD spot as it is, assuming we can’t just sign a pionk or chychrun in the offseason. And that wouldn’t help us this season. So if Ekblad doesn’t re-sign, then we’ll be in an even deeper hole. I’m really curious what happens with Ekblad and bennett as far as the contract situation goes

holding out to take his talents to South Beach.


Think this TDL will be fairly minor in terms of addition. See if there's another guy like Tank that finds his way on the move when his current team falls out of the playoffs.

2nd/3rd round type of buy. Expiring contract + retention
 
I'd be interested in Lindgren from the Rangers, but he'd be quite expensive. Borgen is interesting too, he was awful in Seattle but (at least as far as analytics go) he's playing well in NYR.

I always liked Borgen in Seattle. His points just never caught up to his skill level imo. But when you watch him you see a big, rangy fluid skater with a big shot and surprisingly solid defensively.

The biggest question mark aside from Bennett’s future, is the D corp which includes Ekblad’s future and a top-4 RD. Idk if it’s managements philosophy regarding building a backend or just coincidence but they’ve almost never traded assets to address the D in the zito era. Forsling picked up on waivers, Ekblad we drafted, Mikkola a free agent, Kulikov free agent, OEL free agent, montour acquired for only a 3rd if I recall, Mahura also waivers I think, Marc Staal and Gudas were both free agents I think. So other than montour for a 3rd and chiarot, has there been anyone else? His first big move was to ship Matheson out and we also bought out Yandle. So unless pionk or chychrun hit the open market, and assuming they’re ok with paying them big money, are they going to give up resources to address the D? Possibly. At least for picks and prospects and maybe a samo from the lineup. They were in on hanifin afterall, but I don’t see them giving up any of the main 8 forwards right now. Really curious to see what happens with Ekblad and the other spot(s).

The D is really at a decision point moment, but so many things can happen to change the equation. Okay, maybe not so many, but a couple of critical things.

What if Ekblad doesn’t have his annual broken leg or concussion or other injury? What if that means he gets better skating legs and is quicker and Kucherov can’t undress him quick like Hubie undresses a hooker?

What if Benny signs for less than people fear? What if Swaggy’s production skyrockets in playoffs like before? What if the top-6 start looking like the top-6 they’ve been?

What if Bjornfot or Ballslingus (new Irish airline) or Adam Boquist finds their D and their O at the same time? And brings it into the end of the regular season and the playoffs?

What if the whole team actually wants to win another Cup? And they figure it out just in time for the playoffs?
