If they weren't f***ing Flyers, I'd love JVR (short term) or Konecny (long term)

It's gonna be Brendan Smith, lol.

Siegs-Hamliton
Graves-Marino
Luke-Severson

You could honestly flip Marino and Severson too depending on who's playing better.
You would want Marino to be paired with Luke Hughes. Someone that can stay at home and more reliable in his own zone than Severson.

Graves-Severson should be fine as a pairing on its own. They were paired together at World Championship.

I don't think it works like that though in reality. If we have a completely healthy team and Bernier stays on LTIR, I don't think that suddenly translates into $3.8M of cap space.

I went down the rabbit hole at the beginning of the season of trying to understand how LTIR works, but I don't fully grasp it at all. That being said, I don't think we can add to the cap space we had at the start of the season when Bernier was placed on LTIR (which if I recall correctly, was maybe in the neighborhood of $1.1M??).

Someone that knows more about it can certainly correct me, but that's my current understanding...which isn't that great, so it's not really much of an understanding at all.
Trust me, leaving Bernier on LTIR all season maximizes the cap available to be utilized for Devils.
It's how Tampa have rorted cap situation for years, and why they actively traded for Brent Seabrook.

Ruff is going to want to lean on his vets come playoff time. Smith is going to play over Luke barring Luke coming in those last few games and blowing the doors off
Quinn Hughes came in and played a lot during the playoffs. We'll see. But yeah, I don't see us acquiring a defender barring lots of injuries.

I think we get a couple of bottom 6ers to push Boqvist, Zetterlund, and Holtz out of the lineup in the playoffs.

I don't doubt that is the case - especially since Bernier is nowhere near close to returning, which would allow the Devils to start banking some cap space ahead of the trade deadline.

That being said, do you - or anyone else here - actually know how much cap space we'd have to work with at the trade deadline assuming a completely healthy roster with Bernier remaining on LTIR?

This is my question as well. Can we even make a move without moving salary out? Johnsson, Blackwood, etc.

I would LOVE to bring Henrique back. Damn, that would be great.

Veteran voice in the room, feisty, still scores goals, kills penalties and wins faceoffs.

I want this, so you can guarantee this won't happen.

I would like to see Henrique back as well, but I just don't know how that trade would be feasible.

We still have (seemingly) no idea how much cap space the Devils have to work with and Henrique has a $5.85M cap hit this year and next. Not sure how willing the Ducks would be to retain salary on Henrique either as that would occupy one of their three spots this year and next.

They're most certainly retaining on Klingberg this year. Shattenkirk and Kulikov are also pending UFA's that they may retain on, though Kulikov is "only" at $2.25M.

I guess if they retain half and we send Johnsson the other way, there's a deal to be had there. Would love to see Henrique back in the playoffs.

I could see the Ducks keeping him since he is signed for another year and they need salary. But yea I would take him too.

We either try to swing something for Timo Meier, or just stand pat. Whatever depth pieces are out there do not make the team appreciably better.

I saw all the Rico talk and it got me thinking.
What about Parise, if the Islanders sell?
He'd be super cheap, like a 5th for him?

The second year will complicate things but I agree. If you can get some retention from Anaheim it might be worth it. He’d essentially be Haula’s replacement next year too.

That being said, if we’re talking about reunions, Parise kinda fills the same criteria outside of face offs. Assuming his health holds up and his play doesn’t fall off a cliff considering he’s 38 now, he could be an interesting option.

Only caveat with him is I would assume if he moves now he wants to maximize his chance at a cup run. I don’t know if I would hedge his bets here if I were him.

Hughes may be able to hold his own offensively, but I’m not sure it would be best to throw him into the defensive game needed in the playoffs.

His defensive impacts are actually good, not sure with this myth gets peddled that he's a bottom of the barrel defender.
