It was a long time ago and guys can improve, but Avs fans absolutely hated Sacco.
Yes, but remember Colorado was terrible back then and very much in the wilderness.

I am not a Sacco fan and I do not want him to take over the bench. However, you cannot blame Sacco for all of the ills in Colorado.

Someone, I believe Mark Divver, made the salient point that Sacco (and to a lesser degree, Jay Leach) have been in the room and part of the coaching staff as problems have multiplied.

Does anyone think either, having been part of, or at least witness to, said problem can improve matters once Montgomery is jettisoned?

And yet that is probably what these two will do. They are risk averse, bad publicity allergic, etc.

I would very much prefer they go outside the organization for someone who is a proven, seasoned NHL head coach who knows how to coach defense.

None of the candidates I prefer would likely be acceptable to the current front office.

Maybe that coach doesn't exist right now. Practically speaking.

A few years ago I would have been all for going with a No Name successful college or Junior coach, but in my view that is not what the Bruins need at present.

They are in win now mode, more or less, whilst forming and bringing along a new group.

I would hope that the idea of breaking it all down and starting again with an unknown, whatever his college or Junior pedigree, is off the board.

I would prefer experience and a steady hand who knows what he's doing in all three zones.

The season is not doomed by any means.

Boston's divisional rivals have not covered themselves in glory early on either.

The 2024-2035 Boston Bruins can be salvaged.

Somehow.

Bruins congenitally narrow in their coaching (and management) search.

The only reason -- the
only reason -- Sinden & O'Connell were at last kicked to the curb was that by 2006, long suffering and loyal to a fault Bruins fans finally began voting with their feet.

Real change occurred only when the gravy train threatened to careen off the tracks.

Hence an unheard-of outside GM hire, the (still) criminally underappreciated Peter Chiarelli.

Looking back, it's crazy to think about how fortunate the Bruins were to emerge from 2005-05 in the shape they were in. Phenomenal really. Criminally underappreciated mostly because of his work in Edmonton (one big trade really which was never as bad as people made it out to be).

How soon here before people start voting with their feet? This team is dreadfully boring. Ticket prices are through the roof, as is the cost to take a family out to a game. Merchandise cost a fortune.

If things keep trending the way they are going they'll be down to attendance around 14 thousand by the end of the season, maybe less.

And that would be the best possible result.

I am curious how long it takes for the numbers to drop. Even here in our little looney bin interest is already waning for some, and that's with most here not paying for the product beyond a subscription or two. Been quite awhile, in sporting terms, since the Bruins were outright bad, so a lot of folks aren't really used to it. Add in the crazy high prices to attend games in most cases and an increasingly competitive market chasing people's hard-earned $$$ in various entertainment sectors.

Put all that together and how long before a) ticket prices drop and b) fan attendance starts to decline and the legendary sell out streak (whose accuracy is already a bit sketchy) is broken? If the team does somehow manage to turn its form around, we may not find out. Otherwise, it'll be interesting to see how things play out, and what the Jacobs do if there is an appreciable reduction in attendance, merch sales, ratings, etc.

I guess it depends on how soon they are completely out of the playoff picture.

They got to make hey with their remaining games in 2024. Because once they get to New Year's Day, their schedule gets significantly harder. Their schedule between Jan. 1 and the 4 Nation tournament break is particularly gruesome (18 games in 39 days). Rangers 3 times. Tampa and Ottawa twice. Leafs, Oilers, Florida, NJ, Colorado, Winnipeg, Minny, Vegas. If they go off a cliff in Jan/Feb, do the fans come back in March?

The majority of team is either just got married or have had babies

That’s why I cut them slack in the third period

Been there it’s tiring

I give them credit - I’d mail it in after the first
We have all been there, get up and do your job. If that is the excuse that they are using or are you using that excuse.

There’s only two teams in the entire league who average less than 15 thousand a night - San Jose and Winnipeg. Bruins are second in the league for average percentage of capacity (101.6%). Even the Ducks are averaging almost 16 thousand.

You’re looking at years before a real significant attendance drop, and even then not near this 14 thousand mark.

You are not just concerned with just attendance, but the merch sales is a huge part of the revenue. I will also had with the Patriots and Red Sox down, Bruins do not want to miss an opportunity to move up in popularity. Popularity means sales, sales brings revenue.

They were down around 14.5 in 2006-07. And that team was in the playoff hunt right up until the final month.

Then factor in fans are in an era of high inflation/high cost-of-living.

If the Bruins are dead in the water going into that two week break in Feb. watch attendance plummet after that.

B's have no excuse to not beat the CBJ's tonight. If they lose, and I were Monty I would be contacting real estate professionals.

9 of their next 10 vs. non-playoff teams. 20 points available. Any less than 12 and Monty should be shown the door. Even 12 isn't very good considering the quality of competition. Maybe try winning a few of them in regulation.

100%

Goalie Bob can stay.

The rest? Bye bye
I loved Chris Kelly as a player, but putting him in charge of the power play, I believe, last season was yet another baffling coaching/management move.

I don't have a read on Chris as a coach.

Can someone provide a snark free assessment? Honest question.

And here's the 10£ question:

Who do folks want as their new management team?

I actually haven't even thought about it. But, since we're speculating about Montgomery, we might as well open the door to considering Sweeneely's replacement(s).

What say thou?

Good.

Money, making it or losing it, is the only language Jeremy Jacobs understands.

If the descent down the toilet continues, real change at the top may be coming.

Overall, I believe Sweeney and Neely have done a good to very good job over the years.

However, in professional sports of whatever kind, winning is the ultimate metric and coin of the realm.

Relative to playoff success and legitimate Cup contention, the Stockholm Twins have come up short.

Every off-season has been reactive rather than proactive. And every time it's lead to mistakes made in personnel decisions that they've paid the price for. Whether it be wins/losses, cap space, 1st round picks, etc.
