Yes, but remember Colorado was terrible back then and very much in the wilderness. It was a long time ago and guys can improve, but Avs fans absolutely hated Sacco.
I am not a Sacco fan and I do not want him to take over the bench. However, you cannot blame Sacco for all of the ills in Colorado.
Someone, I believe Mark Divver, made the salient point that Sacco (and to a lesser degree, Jay Leach) have been in the room and part of the coaching staff as problems have multiplied.
Does anyone think either, having been part of, or at least witness to, said problem can improve matters once Montgomery is jettisoned?
And yet that is probably what these two will do. They are risk averse, bad publicity allergic, etc.
I would very much prefer they go outside the organization for someone who is a proven, seasoned NHL head coach who knows how to coach defense.
None of the candidates I prefer would likely be acceptable to the current front office.
Maybe that coach doesn't exist right now. Practically speaking.
A few years ago I would have been all for going with a No Name successful college or Junior coach, but in my view that is not what the Bruins need at present.
They are in win now mode, more or less, whilst forming and bringing along a new group.
I would hope that the idea of breaking it all down and starting again with an unknown, whatever his college or Junior pedigree, is off the board.
I would prefer experience and a steady hand who knows what he's doing in all three zones.
The season is not doomed by any means.
Boston's divisional rivals have not covered themselves in glory early on either.
The 2024-2035 Boston Bruins can be salvaged.
Somehow.
