Speculation: Potential Coaching Replacements for Jim Montgomery

Just some random thoughts ...

Coacing options:
Keep Montgomery throughout the season and part ways at season's end. Who knows how the team would respond ... it could be painful if present course continues.

Three alternatives:

Promote Sacco

Promote Leach

Go with someone outside the organization, like Sullivan if he is released by Pittsburgh; or some other candidate.

Really, who is available that would want to step into this mess without a prolonged contract?

I just don't think Pittsburgh will part ways with Sullivan mid-season, which means Boston would have to wait until the off season. There may be additional options ( Recchi ? ) at that time any of which would have to be evaluated at that point.

I would only promote Sacco as strictly an interm with him either released or reassigned at season's end. Or ...

My preference of "in house" choices:
Promote Leach now (or season end depending on other options), but release Montgomery and Chris Kelly immediately / Sacco released or reassigned season's end, but stays for now as a coach.

If Leach is made coach bring in assistants - Adam McQuaid and (Mark Recchi - added at season's end). Sacco can stay until then.

McQuaid has very little coaching experience, but everyone has to start somewhere; and he is well respected by the players both as a former player and a teacher/mentor.
Recchi is an experienced assistant coach, with leadship qualities and knows what it takes as a forward to win in this league. (problem with Recchi is he may want to be head coach somewhere. Here might be an option in the off season rather than an assistant again.)

Leach becomes a fresh voice as head coach with new assistants bringing traditional seasoning.

My bold prediction in the preseason was that the Bruins would probably finish at .500 and I had multiple reasons for saying that. And I felt everyone needed to keep their expectations low.

Now, we are past the middle of November and not much has changed. There's a lot wrong with this team but it's not too late.

I'm going to go over plenty of it on tonight's live stream.
Link and time for the stream?

Avs fans despised Sacco and were throwing a party on their board when he left.

I don't want the status quo. He's gotta go too.
Not defending Sacco, but maybe fan sentiment is not the best barometer. Lots of Bruins fans despised Claude Julien the last few seasons he was here (remember the number of GDT posts that just said "Clode"?). But he brought us a Cup and had the team playing a very structured system. Could really use that now.

Rooting for Monty but the passion has gone out of the relationship and unfortunately a new hair do & a boob job for Monty won’t bring it back

You know full well if the coach isn't a former Hockey East player than he's not a candidate. They'll probably give David Quinn another look to. Bruins getting Hab-like in the narrowness of their coaching search.

Buccigross calling for the B's to shit or get off the pot with Monty. Says time is right to either make a commitment to Monty (extension) or cut him loose so the new coach can hit the ground running with the light schedule ahead.

My dad "Make yourself useful."
My dad (who died when I was nine), "Wipe that smile off your face."

Which my brother Michael did. Literally.

There's a very "good" reason Sweeney personally shouldn't fire Monty right now.

Very little heat on him at the moment. Almost all of it on Monty. But what happens if Donald cans James and the team still sucks all the same?

I don't think that will happen.

However, as noted previously, if they fail to make the post season and thus deny the old man his playoff gate -- especially after shelling out mucho deniro and raising expectations sky high -- the noose may tighten considerably for Neely & Sweeney.

Montgomery's dismissal is a foregone conclusion, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Bruins congenitally narrow in their coaching (and management) search.

The only reason -- the
only reason -- Sinden & O'Connell were at last kicked to the curb was that by 2006, long suffering and loyal to a fault Bruins fans finally began voting with their feet.

Real change occurred only when the gravy train threatened to careen off the tracks.

Hence an unheard-of outside GM hire, the (still) criminally underappreciated Peter Chiarelli.

You know the rest.

It's been ten largely fruitless years of management under Cam and "Sweenes," assuming your measure of progress is playoff success and genuine Cup contention.

If the bottom falls out after what I hope will be the onboarding of a seasoned, legitimate head coach, than you will have what can rightly be called a crisis in confidence per present management.

The worm 🐛 may turn.

And at that point, all bets are off.

The patience they are showing here tells me they don’t like their options. Like it or not Monty should have been gone 1-2 weeks ago. It’s the only option. It’s laughable he’s still here.

I think at this point we can assume they are either on hold from on high (maybe new GM) or they don’t like their coaching options.
