He seemed to have done a solid job in Providence and has never been an NHL head coach, so how do you know he wouldn't be good in the role? What are you basing that on? Genuine question here, not taking a shot at your post.
I know you are not but, I he is here now and was going to make the defense better and that has not been the case, and I am not sure, but I think this team needs some experience behind the bench. Just my opinion, for what it is worth.

Fair enough- I would just add that while he may have been brought in to coach the defense, it is always Monty's final decision on what he wants them doing in his system or whatever he calls it. If that isn't working for the players (as it hasn't been for whatever reason) there is not much Leach can do about it. Some of the stupid stuff we've seen out there are things any NHL coach has a right to expect that players at that level should know.

Agree, but we both must admit this is a real shit show right now, and we are not use to this. I also have a gut feeling there is something else going on, but who knows.

Someone needed to go 2 seasons ago.

Who that is should be the debate.

Given that Bruce went on and won a Stanley Cup the season after he was let go is some egg on the face of Cam and Don. For me, one constant whatever the overall play of the team has been, is that the powerplay has been subpar. It's been an issue for years, and there is one constant denominator there. Why that hasn't been addressed is a real head-scratcher.

I suspect you're really talking about a level or two above the coaching staff, though. All I can say there is that the team has, for some time now, had problems starting games on time, and rising to the occasion, whether it's closing out a playoff series, or a single game. I don't think that is largely on the coach because it happened under Bruce, too. That seems to say it's a roster issue, and that points to a problem up the chain.

What I don't know is how much is Don and how much is Cam- how often does Cam override Don in these decisions, or perhaps acquiesce when he disagrees?

Good points. No matter how bad the talent is on a roster and I, do not believe this roster is as bad as it is playing right now, there is no excuse for being so lifeless.... Funny people have been dumping on Zadorov, and in ways they are right, except maybe the 4th line but he is one player seems to have a pulse.

Why have Bruins fans soured so much on Monty out of curiosity?
He coached us out of the first round series vs Florida so all the goodwill from that Presidents trophy season was gone. Fans would have tried to hound him out this summer had we lost to the Leafs.

Not sure it's fair and I'm not sure the next coach will be an improvement but with no extension it's an any day now situation after the bad start.

He will get another NHL job and isn't a bad coach. Injured Bergeron wanting to play vs Florida instead of heal for the next series and letting Ullmark stay in after some pathetic games will be what sunk him.

Hard to blame Monty for the whole team looking like they got lobotomies over the summer
Yes, but why?

You can blame management and you can blame the personnel, which is fine.

But boneheaded plays missed assignments, underachievement across the board - to me that's coaching, or lack thereof.

Again, I don't see how you can see it any other way.

And when things don't go well, the pattern is the same.

He flails, trying this trying that, with little genuine tactics or strategy to justify incessant and frequently baffling moves. That almost never work out.

Everything I listened to in the offseason pointed out that Monty didn’t have a new contract.

SweeNeely spent to the cap and brought in a few names. Expectation becomes deep run. Whether fair or not. That’s what it is.
Not like those two are going anywhere. I’d poop myself if either were let go.

Jimbo will take the fall even though his overall record is still freaking prestine in the regular season. I think the message has run stale and such is the life of an NHL coach today.

Will a coaching change really fix this though? I do think some guys are still finding their footing this young season

It is absolutely fair and reasonable to say that one reason for such poor play has been the arrival of players (two of which, Lindholm and Zadorov, are expected to be key contributors) who will take time to find their groove playing with new teammates; younger players attempting to develop their skills and figure out the NHL on the fly; and veterans negotiating different roles.

Ullmark is gone.

Korpisalo must be coached up and familiarize himself with the players in front of him. He has to find his game and confidence.

That's going to take a while. No one should have an issue with this.

There have also been coaching changes.

Whoever's is behind the bench going forward, it's going to take time for this team to gel.

Period.

The learning curve may be steep, painful and miserable to witness.

I have no problem with that and I don't blame Montgomery in this regard at all.

They will get it together, eventually. What that means going forward relative to regular season and playoff success, I don't know.

I remain fully confident that the Bruins will mesh as the season progresses and become an effective unit.

Of course they need scoring help on the wing. Of course they need more teamwide offense.

That will be addressed, one way or another.

Yet even as presently comprised, this team is too good to play poorly for very long.

I think you saw that today (Saturday, 2 November) against the Flyers.

There's a pulse,

✌️🍁

Sacco, Leach and Kelly are not the answer. There's a reason why Sacco hasn't gotten another HC gig. Our ST's are terrible, why trust these guys with the HC job when they can't even succeed as an Assistant coach. Sweeney should be on the phone looking for outside eyes.
How confident are you of that?

With the size of the roster and the lack of high end skill. They just need someone who can get them to do the basics and make them hard to play against with their size. The whole searching for high quality shots instead of just getting pucks on net and neutering the physicality out of players is never going to work with this roster.

I believe it's called a disconnect between management, coach, and players.

On various, irreconcilable levels.

Honestly he's probably the exact type of coach they need right now. At least as a placeholder.
Zero chance of that happening.

I think in important respects the game has passed Claude by, as much as I respect and admire him as a coach and person.

More to the point, Sweeney and Neely are never going to rehire a coach they fired. A coach kicked to the curb after playing an integral part in bringing the Boston Bruins their first Stanley Cup - and the only one since 2011 - in 39 years.

10 games at most.
A name from the past. I hadn't thought of him as an alternative.

If he wants to do it, I'd love to see it.

After all, he coached in Calgary, but he also coached the Kings to Cups.

If you can do that, you can do almost anything. And this time around, is Sutter brother won't have to deal with Sinden and his foolishness.
