For the Canucks, pretty hard to field NHLers for the 3-4th lines or half the d-core. Also, all the defense is LD and no RD to speak of:

McCann-Petterson-Boeser
Podkolzin-Horvat-Hoglander
Gajovich-Gaudette-Lockwood
Lind-Gaunce-Mcdonough

Hughes-Forsling
Hutton-Brisebois
Rathbone-Connauton

Sabres:

Hagel-Eichel-Reinhart
Peterka-Cozens-Quinn
Benson-Mittelstadt-Marcus Foligno
Alex Nylander-Helenius-Girgensons
Scratches: Vic Olofsson, Brett Murray

Dahlin-Samuelsson
Power-Borgen
McCabe-Ristolainen
Scratch: Jacob Bryson, Ryan Johnson

UPL
Ullmark

Top 6 is strong, things start to get messy with finding decent 3rd line wingers and 4C with how bad the Sabres have been at drafting good forward depth. Defense and goaltending are solid. Will forever be pissed off that Botterill let Hagel walk for nothing when Nylander was the best forward in the pipeline.

Carrier wasn’t drafted by Buffalo

Yep -- I almost forgot about that. Carrier came over as part of the package for Ryan Miller and Steve Ott. [Return was Halak, Chris Stewart, Carrier, a 2015 1st and a 2016 3rd] Buffalo then packaged the 2015 1st (I think) with Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, Joel Armia and Brendan Lemieux to WPG for Bogosian, Kane and Jason Kasdorf. Then they lost Carrier to VGK in the expansion draft. Fun times.

Connor - Scheifele - Laine
Ehlers - Copp - Perfetti
Kane - Lowry - Roslovic
Harkins - Gustavsson - Appleton

Morrissey - Trouba
Samberg - Heinola
Stanley - Kovacevic

Helle
Comrie

Might be able to sneak into the playoffs, Helle has pulled it off with worse rosters ahead of him. 13 of the 20 are on the current Jets roster.
Do jets have access to thrashers?

It's not as bad as I thought it would be at forward. The defense is somehow an upgrade.

I'd sub in JT Compher before Nylander (though if I am recalling correctly, he didn't really want to be a Sabre, hence the trade so that spoils it a little). I don't think our 2024 pick can count.

Also, I just looked at hockeydb. Should Brayden McNabb having any consideration (I don't follow him, so I can only go off stats without any real basis)?

I think so, nobody is really coming to mind though. OP wanted players at their current ability so Kovalchuk is probably out

You already had one in Kane.

I think the only other potentials are Bogosian and Chiarot. And that’s not especially strong potential.

The defense would be good, Sorokin would be Sorokin but the forwards end off at center basically.

Anders Lee-Mathew Barzal-Ryan Strome
Simon Holmstrom-Brock Nelson-Oliver Wahlstrom
Anthony Beauvillier-John Tavares-Aatu Raty
Nino Niederreiter-Casey Cizikas-Kyle Okposo

Ext: Kieffer Bellows
HM:Ruslan Iskhakov, Matt Martin, Otto Koivula, William Dufour

Devon Toews-Noah Dobson
Adam Pelech-Ryan Pulock
Samuel Bolduc-Jared Spurgeon

Ext: Parker Witherspoon, Scott Mayfield
HM: Robin Salo, Sebastian Aho, Calvin de Haan, Kyle Burroughs, Travis Hamonic

G:
Ilya Sorokin

The forwards aren't the worst. That top line would be eventful, both offensively and defensively. Defensive group is awful; basically a high end shutdown D and then either kids or busts. Goaltending is non-existent; there is no goalie the Hawks have drafted that fit the requirements of the challenge while also not being retired.

If undrafted FAs count you could add Panarin, Raanta, among others out there

Good call on Compher. No idea how McNabb's played lately--I saw him more with Vegas when they were a new franchise

Jesus, that center line... My eyes hurt.

This is hands down the worst team of drafted players. Excluding Seattle.

Thank God the bozos that are responsible for this are gone.

Turned out better than expected.
Would put Juho Lammikko over Grimaldi, or hell Samoskevich since he has played at least one game in the NHL.

Our forward group is fairly weak but that defensive group is probably one of the better corps in this thread.

Lavoie - McLeod - Yamamoto
Cogs - Gagner - Puljujarvi

Broberg - Bouchard
Nurse - Marino
Kesselring - Petry

Skinner

Extras : Desharnais, Bear, C.Jones, Samorukov, Lagesson and Niems

Outside our core guys being there our NHL roster is substantially better than I initially expected this to be. With our core guys drafted outside Ekholm and thinking oh we’re adding Hall and Eberle I expected this to long much stronger than it turned out.

Great top 6, horrendous bottom 6. Defense is… okay lol. Could be worse

Cogliano is now retired. Need someone else for 4LW. Maybe Jujhar Khaira. He’s still bouncing around the AHL/NHL. Matej Blumel might also find a spot on that bottom line.

Erik Gustafsson would definitely be 3LD. I'd also put Hartikainen as 4LW.

Hartikainen's been borderline elite since playing in Europe full-time.
2019: Led KHL in playoff scoring, first team All-Star
2021: Most points in KHL by a foreigner
2022: Olympic Gold and highest +/-, WC Gold
2023: Leading goal scorer in NL, won championship
