I know a lot of people like Forslund, but he's just not my cup of tea. His canned phrases like "That's hockey, baby!", "[insert goalie name here] says NO!" and "[insert team scoring first here] is off and running" just aren't what I like to hear. I like the call to be more organic.

His voice really bothers me.

I saw that too. It's the most 2020 thing to happen.

Well Calgary had some gnarly flooding a few years ago that submerged a good chunk of the Saddledome... So most 2020, nah. Most Alberta thing, absolutely.

Something to the effect of "we heard you like a freshly flooded ice rink to skate on, so we flooded the shit outta it.

While certainly not infallible, the Blues are well represented in the various NHL Super 16 pieces:

LW- Perron (14) probably the biggest head scratcher as Schwartz is better and actually plays LW
C - ROR (9) perhaps a bit high, but his season last year coupled with another strong season before the break, it's fair
RW - Tarasenko (9) not much to say here. When he's healthy he's definitely one of the better players at his position

D - Pietrangelo (4) I'd have him above Carlson since he isn't a train wreck in his own zone, but Carlson is going to win the Norris so no surprise there
D - Parayko (13) Probably fair.

G - Binnington (4) again, not much to say here.

The Blues are always underrated because these writers don't actually watch hockey. They just follow regular season and fantasy points. Give me Tarasenko over Pastrnak, Marchand, Gaudreau, etc.

I just looked at the RW Super 16 rankings and as I looked at the playoff stats of the top 16 one thing really stood out to me-
Vlad is at .47 goals per playoff game, almost a goal every other game
Kucherov is at .44 goals per playoff game
Pastrnak is at .40 goals per playoff game, 2 out of every 5 games
everyone else is at a goal every 3rd or 4th playoff game

Yup. People are stupid and just look at point totals, which include secondary assists. Even then, Tarasenko generates a lot of his own scoring chances. Pastrnak sits and waits for 1 one timers on the power play for half of his goals.

Barbie with a snipe short side to get the scoring started in the scrimmage.

I am really enjoying watching this scrimmage even though it is really difficult for me to tell who is playing at any given time. Blue team dominated the 2nd, but couldn't really capitalize on any chances. Thomas got a penalty shot and scored on that so 1-1. Sanford had a breakaway and was denied/missed. Kyrou hit the post. I may have missed other things, but those I saw.

BTW streaming on Twitter from the Blues. I'm sure it will be archived for later viewing if you want, too.

Blue wins 5-1. It was a pretty close game until the middle of the third and the white team just fell apart. ROR scores twice in one shift, both on slappers from the slot, and Robert Thomas looked like a god out there. Might be because he’s so young and doesn’t need as much time to knock off the rust, but he was great regardless. Was very fun to watch, but definitely wish they had numbers on. Most of the core group was easy to identify, but the rest of them were challenging. Also loved the irony of Steve Ott as an official.

Blue team dominated from the 2nd period on. Kyrou specifically stood out to me especially in the 3rd. Don't know if the White team was just loafing around all game, but they didn't inspire any confidence.

Kyrou was brutal on the walls, but he was dynamic as h*** off the rush and anytime he had a little bit of space. Intriguing to say the least lol.

WE NEED TO GET ROBERT THOMAS LINEMATES THAT CAN SCORE

I also watched the stream. It's was so good watching hockey again. The blue team dominated from the second on. Thomas is a stud. The white team to me didn't seem interested playing. I also had a good chuckle Steve Ott as a ref. Lol

Not for nothing, Tyler Tucker didn't look too out of place....what a solid 7th rd pick that was.....we have a ton of Defensive depth for a long time.

Just on the left side alone Dunn, Scandella, gunnar, perunovich, mikkola, Tucker, Borgman, Walman......

I think they need to pair him with Tarasenko.

It's time.

100% agree....even if it means moving schenn to wing, tho the only thing against doing that.....is having thomas run the 3rd line and us having a dominant top 9.

Just wish he had better scorers than blais and bozak on his line. wouldn't mind seeing kyrou, but i understand in the playoffs u want guys u can trust defensively etc...so i understandd blais and bozak

But if we were to run thomas with tarasenko....maybe it's
Schwartz-Thomas-Tarasenko,
Sanford-Ror-Perron,
Schenn-Bozak-blais,
barbs-sunny-steen?
or
Schwartz-ROR-Perron
Sanford-Thomas-Tarasenko
Schenn-Bozak-Blais
or
Schenn-Thomas-Tarasenko
Schwartz-Ror-Perron
Sanford-Bozak-Blais
or
Schenn-ROR-Perron
Schwartz-Thomas-Tarasenko
Sanford-Bozak-Blais

there's a ton of different combos lol

If we had a season to get guys acclimated to new line mates, then I could get behind the significant line juggling. But given that we are essentially going straight into the playoffs and the guys still need to knock off whatever rust exists, I would try to keep things as normal as possible. Let’s let Thomas elevate our top 9 and dismantle lesser competition on the third line. It was a winning formula last year and he has only gotten better.

Thomas made a line with Maroon and Bozak effective last year. I think Blais is a pretty good sub for Maroon. He plays a physical game and has high hockey sense. If Bozak can finish his share of chances, the line can function.

The Blues are committed to having 4 lines that play, and the top 9 are spread out to create depth. We hope Tarasenko is fully ready to go. There have been times when I felt he was more of a decoy that drew the defensive assignment from the other team, but that he wasn’t healthy enough to really be a threat like he used to be. But with Schenn and Schwartz, you can’t ignore that line.

Sanford on the O’Reilly/Perron line is interesting. He needs to play like a power forward to really hold down his spot. If he starts getting shy about contact or getting to the dirty areas, he’ll get bumped.

I think MacEachern is getting Barbashev’s spot for now, to avoid disruption when Ivan leaves the sequester site for his child’s birth. But I fully expect both Kyrou and Barbashev to get some games this postseason, unless the Blues get bounced surprisingly fast. I guess they’re only guaranteed 7 games (3 round robin, 4 series).

I could definitely get behind this combo. As others have said I think they're going to go with proven combos at this point, but I would like to see that top 6 at some point next season.

Schwartz-Thomas-Tarasenko has a bit of an STL line feel to it, except I feel like Thomas is a better playmaker than Lehtera, certainly light years faster, and probably just as effective defensively due to his speed. The only thing that would be lacking on that line, and it probably has a lot to do with why Thomas is still with Bozak, is that Thomas still isn't particularly good on the dot.

I think there's a good possibility that next year Thomas moves up, Schenn slides to wing, and Schwartz is dealt to provide cap space to resign Petro.

I believe the team reports to Edmonton on Saturday the 26th. We are inching closer to hockey. My DirecTV schedule is starting to show time slots for the games.

No rush on Thomas. Keep Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko together.
Agree with this, and I don’t really think he’d work all that well with Tarasenko anyway. Tarasenko’s goals often come when he has the puck for a few seconds, changes the angle, and then unleashes his rocket. Thomas excels at getting the puck to the front of the net, which is not really Vladi’s specialty. Sanford, Sundqvist, Bozak, and Blais are probably our best at that.

I’m pretty sure I’ve posted this before, but Thomas would absolutely slay with either of the Tkachuk boys. Both guys don’t mind bullying their way to the front and setting up shop. Thomas always seems to find a way to get the puck there, and both guys have the size and skill to finish in tight. They’d be a force.
