Seems like it’s finally time to have a thread to talk about what’s happening on the ice. A few key dates:
Players will ratify the CBA extension and formally accept the return to play scheme, to be announced tomorrow (Friday 7/10). Any players that will opt not to play must inform the team within 72h (can’t find a source for this).

But training camp (Phase 3) begins Monday 7/13, in St Louis. It’s not clear to me exactly when the team will travel to Edmonton.

Games begin 8/1. I really enjoyed typing that sentence.

The Blues can have 30 skaters plus unlimited goalies at camp. When they enter the bubble, they can have 31 total players.

For those interested, next season’s training camp will tentatively start 11/17/20. Draft 10/6 and free agency 10/9. All tentative dates, but at least you get an idea of timing.

I haven’t seen any info about who is invited to Blues training camp, but let’s speculate on that number.

Black Aces will work a little differently, since guys have to be in the bubble. As I mentioned, they’ll have to get to 31 max players when they go to Edmonton. But they could exceed that number now slightly with 30 skaters and unlimited goalies.

Here’s a guess for the roster.

Forwards (19):
Barbashev
Blais
Bozak
Brouwer
De la Rose
Kyrou
MacEachern
O’Reilly
Perron
Sanford
Schenn
Schwartz
Steen
Sundqvist
Tarasenko
Thomas
Kostin
Nolan
Walker

Defensemen (11)
Bortuzzo
Dunn
Faulk
Gunnarsson
Parayko
Pietrangelo
Scandella
Mikkola
Pouliot
Walman
Perunovich eligible? I think he isn’t.

Goalies:
Binnington
Allen
Husso
?

They’ll probably want to max out the numbers so they can have guys ready in case someone has to sit due to testing positive (or a regular injury). Also, it would suck to get cut from the group that goes to Edmonton. Did I forget anyone who should be there?

I wonder how I'm going to react to seeing hockey being played again.
I kind of feel like I won't believe what I am seeing lol

Just think about how rusty the refs are going to be... You won't believe that either. Or alternatively, because we're starting fresh, they could be calling almost everything - changing the tone of these playoffs.

Hahaha. I probably won't.
I wonder if it will be in the "so bad, it's entertaining" level of rustiness.

Blues first game is vs Colorado on 8/2. I won’t be surprised if St Louis doesn’t win the Round Robin.

Travis Hamonic opted out of playing. Calgary will have to use someone else on defense. Without criticizing his choice, I wonder what mentality his teammates have going into this. Winnipeg is not an easy best of 5 matchup, and I certainly wouldn’t bet against them.

Am I the only one excited about this? Training camp starts today.

Has anyone seen a list published of who is reporting for camp? I’m curious about any surprises.

No list - DA told JR that he wouldn’t comment on it, and that who you see on the ice today is who is ready. So, it seems like we’ll find out pretty quickly which players might have or had Covid (some of the players not yet on the ice could be out for other reasons).

If they can get through this phase without a hitch and get to the bubble sites, this is going to be an incredibly fun tournament to watch. So much hockey!

from what i've seen, calgary fans aren't all that upset and looking forward to their young defenseman getting more time. calgary probably doesn't get out of the play-in series, so it's probably not a big deal.

Their offense disappeared last post-season and they had no answer for the McKinnon line.

Calgary is better equipped to handle Winnipeg, who don't have the same game breaking speed that Colorado uses. But, the only edge I'd grant Calgary is the blue line, their offense and goaltending is noticeably worse than what Winnipeg ices. Hamonic sitting out hurts that, but as you say, I didn't expect Calgary to make it past the play in round.

Crawford is “medically unfit to play” for Chicago. He started the last 8 games before the pause. Unless this is Covid related, I would guess it’s concussion symptoms have returned. If they end up winning the lottery I’ll be miffed. I think there is a decent chance Malcolm Subban is in goal for them in the Edmonton series.

I hate how they can only report that a player is “unfit to play”. It just leads to a firestorm of speculation. Would it be a HIPAA violation to disclose if a player tested positive? If so, why was it okay to disclose the players that had the mumps a few years ago? I don’t understand the distinction.

if crawford is unfit on 8/1, you can basically hand the hawks the #1 pick. it couldn't be more predictable unless it was edmonton or pittsburgh.

Montreal* it’s Alexis Lafreniere the savior of Quebec and a starving Insanely large market canadien team. I’d be shocked if they don’t win the Sweepstakes
