I have no problem with either of those things, but from the sounds of it Galcheyuk would have to really dominate. I think his injury last year is a good reason to leave him all year in the OHL, plus there may be too much pressure for him to be the "saviour" coming out of a 28th place finish.

In terms of Gomez, I don't see where he would fit in the lineup. Maybe slide Eller to wing I guess. They may not want to do that if they see Eller as a #2 center down the road. Gomez on the wing didn't work at all.

I don't think we should look at next year right now. The kid came into the tourny by scoring 29pts in his last 11GP, people can argue about whether or not he's playing great in the WJC but he was 2nd in scoring before today, needless to say, kid has loads of talent.
Give him the rest of the year+summer training, who knows where he'll be in his development at the start of next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see him stick with the club. It's not like he'd have a tough time to breaking our lineup. I guess we'll see.

For some reason, I thought he was 19 and AHL eligible next year! So yeah, scratch that whole next season bit, haha. And I agree, kid has all the tools and I think he has looked great at the WJC so far... I like him and I didn't expect him to play so well. I just don't want to rush him.

The obvious strategy for Galchenyuk is letting him finish his year in the CHL, then bring him to the NHL. He's talented enough for it and there's no need to let his talent go to waste in an AHL team full of plumbers.

I'd love to see him play a season at a level somewhere between the OHL and NHL. The SM-Liiga seems like a good, creative option, but I don't see this incarnation of the Habs organization making a move like that.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Kaberle with Markov, but the rest I'd have to agree on.

I put him there by default.

My ideal option, assuming no defenseman is ready from the minors, is to sign someone to fill that hole in the off-season.

I'm not sure who we would keep between St-Denis and Weber though -- unless we keep Leblanc in the minors and carry 9-defenseman.

Glacheyuk can't play AHL next year, it's NHL or OHL until 2014-2015.

At 60 mil the average NHL player makes just below 3 mil/year, it makes to sense to buy out Bourque at 3.3 mil(even if he was playing 3rd line scoring 15 goals) ahead of Gomez at 7.35 mil.

While I agree that we should leave Gally in Sarnia - to say we have no chance is absolutely ridiculous.

Diaz is healthy and both him & Emelin have more development.

Bourque should be able to bounce back (hopefully).

Our C's have all been playing good hockey.

We have a great goalie.

And having Markov back should help our puck movement and PP.

Gomez is in the lineup, like it or not, until the compliance buyout period this summer.
Play Bourque on the RW where he was successful in Calgary. We've all heard of how bad Cole was in Edmonton on the LW, so let's give Bourque a shot on the side he's produced on before we give up on him.
I'd rather have Gally stay in the OHL, but I don't think it will happen.
Kabele needs a stable defensive partner and Emelin should play on the left side.

I don't see how having Galchenyuk on the team can contribute to most important task: the rebuild.

The priority is to maximize trade value at the deadline of the players we'd like to deal, as we're not making any noise in the playoffs this year, and to maximize the development of young players.

Forwards:

Plekanec-Eller-Cole
Armstrong-Gomez-Gionta
Prust-Noke-Moen
Spares and injury replacements: White, Leblanc

The above is a forward lineup that maximizes any potential trade value for Bourque and Armstrong. It also allows Eller to take the next step up. It also puts Gomez in a position to succeed, meaning we could conceivably extract a 3rd rounder from him at the end of the year if he bounces back and gets 30 points as the 3rd line center. I remind everyone that Gomez has a cap hit exceeding his salary by 3 million dollar next year.

Defense:

Markov-Subban
Kaberle-Gorges
Bouillon-Emelin
spares: Diaz, Weber

This is a defensive lineup that puts Andrei Markov in a protective position to succeed, as he will be covered by the best defensemen on the team, giving him room to grow back. Kaberle-Gorges is a good pairing at both ends of the ice, and they compensate for each other's weaknesses, meaning we could flip Kaberle for a 1st rounder. Bouillon-Emelin can be the shutdown pairing.

Too intelligent to actually happen. And unless Bergy is the new Sam Pollock, we won't see players showcased. Too bad.
