If Gomez is still in the line up and Gally stays in Sarnia, I'd expect to see:

Patches - DD - Cole
Bourque - Plex - Gio
Eller - Gomez - Armstrong
Moen - White - Prust

Didn't MB say that Gally would stay in Jr this year and develop...

That statement makes a whole lot of sense at the beginning of a normal season. Now, a shortened scheduled becomes an extended training camp for next year. With the successful WJC campaign Galchy is showing, going back to juniors may be less motivating which could affect the rest of the year. Better off having struggles that are not a direct attribute of his doing.

Bergevin said Gomez is coming to camp (see my link below) and that he hopes Galchenyuk proves him wrong and makes the team.

http://www.montrealgazette.com/spor...ex+Galchenyuk+proves+wrong/7090610/story.html

I have no problem with either of those things, but from the sounds of it Galcheyuk would have to really dominate. I think his injury last year is a good reason to leave him all year in the OHL, plus there may be too much pressure for him to be the "saviour" coming out of a 28th place finish.

In terms of Gomez, I don't see where he would fit in the lineup. Maybe slide Eller to wing I guess. They may not want to do that if they see Eller as a #2 center down the road. Gomez on the wing didn't work at all.

Montreal
Galchenyuk - Plekanec - Cole (two hard working vets to show Galchenyuk to be a professional)
Pacioretty - Eller - Desharnais (Desharnais Pacioretty duo)
Bourque - Gomez - Gionta (Gionta Gomez duo)
Moen - Prust - Armstrong
White Nokelainen

Galchy - PK - Cole
MaxPac - DD - Bourque
Arms - Eller - Gionta
Moen - Gomez - Prust
Nokes - White

Gorges- Subban
Markov - Emelin
Bouillon - Diaz
Kaberle or Commodore

Really feel strong about top 3 lines. 4th line center is iffy as with compliance buyout the possibility of Gomez being out of the lineup becomes a higher probability. Dumont could be a surprise here unless they wish to have proven experience and give Nokes another 48 game tryout.

Either way Gomez and Kaberle are not on the roster next season. With the Subban signing, we will need the space.

I think this is right for the D and about Gomez. At least to start: "Jul 3, 2012 – GM Marc Bergevin on Scott Gomez: 'He's a Montreal Canadien, so he'll come here and we'll see what happens. But I'm not buying him out.'"

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2012/07/03/scott_gomez_buy_out_marc_bergevin_montreal_canadiens/

Of course, this might no longer apply with a new CBA.

Also, we all forget... Gomez was injured and his linemates were all smurfs. Just sayin'. Maybe give the guy something to work with so he doesn't have to dig the puck out himself all the time?

Gally doesn't look ready to me. Looks like he could add some muscle and work on his lateral movement. This is Montreal, you can't throw him to the sharks.

Offense:

Pacioretty-DD-Cole
Eller-Plekanec-Gionta
Prust-Gomez-Bourque
Moen-White-Armstrong
Spares and injury replacements: Noke, Leblanc

Defense:

Markov-Subban
Kaberle-Gorges
Bouillon-Emelin
spares: Diaz, Weber

I don't get the feeling that when Marc Bergevin says there will be no buyout, that there will be one.More likely Gomez is given the opportunity to play his backend off in Montreal and if that doesn't cut it,he gets demoted to Hamilton to play/coach the rookies, this maybe why there has been no significant veteran signings by the Bulldogs. At the same time the players there can get some tips from a former primetime player with speed and skill, harsh but that's reality.Earning a living is precisely what it says, not producing in any useful form is worse than being a playing/Asst.Coach in Hamilton helping the organization that has been overpaying for an over-the -hill hockey player.Every player can only take the good from this type of action,no real competitor wants to fail and Gomez might be a great tonic for what ails the Bulldogs right now,Offence!

I kinda hope Gally stays in Sarnia for the year, then next year we can have Drouin on his wing in the NHL.:yo:

Do we want to use an ELC year on "an extended training camp"?

I want him to stay in Sarnia too, let him dominate the CHL one full year.

I think I would send Galchenyuk back to Sarnia after some serious praise and have him play in the AHL next year.

Bourque - Eller - Armstrong
Moen - Plekanec - Gionta
Prust - Nokelainen - White

13th: Gomez

Markov - Subban
Georges - Emelin
Kaberle - Boulion

Ex: Weber, Diaz

If Montreal is doing badly by the end of the season, I would like to see Palushaj get some time on a line other than the 4th line.

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole
Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta
Moen-Eller-Palushaj*
Prust-White-Armstrong
Nokelainen

Subban-Gorges
Markov-Emelin
Bouillon-Diaz/Kaberle

Great observation. But with a great talent like Galchy, you do what is best for his development and try to shorten the time to impact of his play on the roster. Galchy is not just a blue chip prospect. I don't think EDM was questionning in these regards when it came to their young great talents. And we desperately need that talent, even more now returning from a lockout. Give the fan base something to get hipped about.

I don't think we should look at next year right now. The kid came into the tourny by scoring 29pts in his last 11GP, people can argue about whether or not he's playing great in the WJC but he was 2nd in scoring before today, needless to say, kid has loads of talent.
Give him the rest of the year+summer training, who knows where he'll be in his development at the start of next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see him stick with the club. It's not like he'd have a tough time to breaking our lineup. I guess we'll see.

Everybody knows you dislike Plekanec, so not surprised you'd put an 18yo with 0 experience playing pro ahead of him. But Eller as a 4th liner? Talk about wasting your players.

I don't see how having Galchenyuk on the team can contribute to most important task: the rebuild.

The priority is to maximize trade value at the deadline of the players we'd like to deal, as we're not making any noise in the playoffs this year, and to maximize the development of young players.

Forwards:

Pacioretty-DD-Bourque (minutes as easy as last year's)
Plekanec-Eller-Cole
Armstrong-Gomez-Gionta
Prust-Noke-Moen
Spares and injury replacements: White, Leblanc

The above is a forward lineup that maximizes any potential trade value for Bourque and Armstrong. It also allows Eller to take the next step up. It also puts Gomez in a position to succeed, meaning we could conceivably extract a 3rd rounder from him at the end of the year if he bounces back and gets 30 points as the 3rd line center. I remind everyone that Gomez has a cap hit exceeding his salary by 3 million dollar next year.

Defense:

Markov-Subban
Kaberle-Gorges
Bouillon-Emelin
spares: Diaz, Weber

This is a defensive lineup that puts Andrei Markov in a protective position to succeed, as he will be covered by the best defensemen on the team, giving him room to grow back. Kaberle-Gorges is a good pairing at both ends of the ice, and they compensate for each other's weaknesses, meaning we could flip Kaberle for a 1st rounder. Bouillon-Emelin can be the shutdown pairing.

Okay, first of all it looks like the CBA will allow for one contract buyout, so you can say good-bye and good riddance to Scott Gomez and his $7.3 million dollar cap hit.

Without a signed CBA there are also some other factors that will have to be assumed that could affect the lineup.

1) The cap for the 2012-2013 season is expected to be between 62 - 70 million dollars, but a safe assumption is that both DD and Subban will be signed.

2) With a 48 game schedule, you're not going to have time to "experiment" much with the lineup: Mr. Molson has lost a ton of revenue and making the playoffs would be higher on his list than a normal season in my opinon.

3) We don't know the Therrien factor; will the coach keep the #1 line in tact, or will he try and find the scoring depth that we so sorely lacked last season.

4) To get some more fan interest, I think one of either Gally or Gallagher will make the team (personally I think a year in their respeive leagues would do more for them)

So with these assumptions, I'm going with the following, but I am sure it will change often:

Patches ---- DD --- Cole (Proven line, short schedule, need them to produce like last year)
Bourque --- Pleky ---- Gionta ( Pleky and Gio are keys to the offense this year; need more from them)
Gally --- Eller -- Armstrong (A little selfish here; but Gally and Eller would be interesting to see)
Moen --- White --- Prust (A good energy line with some sandpaper)
Noki is the 13th forward

Each line has some size, but I could see Bourque and Gally switch lines as the year progresses or even Gionta moving down to play with Gally and Eller for a veteran presence and spreading out the scoring.

Whatever happens.... at least we'll be talking about hockey ON the ice.... say a prayer!:naughty:

Last I read the proposed compliance buy out would only be an option in June/Off-season. It is possible that we will be stuck with some dead weight again this year. Aside but I hate being one of the bad contract teams.

I would also consider buying out Bourque. He did not impress with Montreal by most accounts and he has the longer term. Anyway we have a boatload of money coming off the books in 2014.

I hope to see AG get the 9 game try out, at least. And a good year from Kaberle would be nice too.
