Kirk Muller is a name that makes a lot of sense. CGY assistant coach, so you got the Treliving connection there. His name has been rumored in other coaching gigs recently. Well respected player in his day and someone with a lengthy coaching career. I could see him as a Bruce Cassidy like story. First crack at the can was unsuccessful and then gets back into head coaching at the highest level again for round 2 and succeeds.
Couple other names I could see being considered are:
John Stevens. Assistant coach in Vegas. Tons of coaching experience in the NHL, including multiple stints as head coach. Won 2 cups as an Assistant in LA under Daryl Sutter, took the Flyers to the conference finals. Also won a Calder Cup as head coach of the Phantoms. AHL affiliate to the Flyers
Steve Ott. Seems to be progressing well as an assistant over the past 6 seasons. He will be an NHL head coach at some time, could be a guy who demands a certain level of intensity that he once played with.
Joel Quenville. This would be my choice if it were up to me. Clearly the best candidate available IMO. The resume speaks for itself. Highly competitive personality who clearly knows how to motivate. I think if the league reinstates him, he needs to be our target. Players love playing for Q, and he knows how to get the most out of them as well. I don't know if Rogers and/or Bell have the stones to make this happen, but I do think he is a worthy reclamation project if he shows accountability for his actions/inactions. If the league deems him fit to coach in the NHL again, we don't need to employ a moral compass that is harsher than that judgment. But that is just my opinion on the matter.
