5th round picks rarely make it to the NHL. Martinez is a proven defenseman. I think he is worth a 2nd round pick for that reason. Dean may have a supply and demand problem though. Every GM knows he has too many NHL defensemen under contract, so unless there is a demand for one or two of the guys Dean is willing to move, he may have to take less.

Agreed. The people who are talking about 5th round picks are playing fantasy league crap.

The nice thing about it is that the Kings aren't forced into a numbers game where they have to expose really good talent, like they did with hickey last year (say what you want, Hickey's a solid NHL D-man and had good potential still when he was waived). This year he'll likely have to expose Schultz or Ellerby. Guys could get claimed but unlikely. If DL wants to make a trade to clear things up and make room for Ellerby/Schultz/Deslauriers/Forbort/someone else, he has time on his side this time it looks like.

Which is odd because he's at every Kings home game.

I'm sure there are a lot of season seat holders who are clueless of the intricacies of front office management. Bernstein is apparently one of them.

Never really been a fan of him.

I can flat out tell you that there are a few UM types in the Kings org who don't like Bernstien even a little bit. That could have something to do with the reason he is off on the Kings. I personally think that he is an alright guy who loves the game but I can understand why others aren't fond of him. He is abrasive to say the least but I meet allot of people like him and take the good with the bad.

As for AM being moved well he sure thinks he has a spot with the team this coming season.

TG with us having 9 defenseman how do u see it playing out ? Who is the odd one out and do u think they could slip thru the waiver wire or a trade? 7?8? Also what rookies do u see making it ? who makes 13 th forward 14th ?

I am just getting my feet wet on Kings hockey again and have spent the last couple of days getting up to speed. I have seen a ton of media from camp and kept in touch with allot of people so I can only say that I am still forming my opinion(s) on the roster for the coming season.

As of today on D we are still up in the air for a couple of good reasons. Willie is out of shape. I know it is hard to believe but he still has a little way to go to get back to 100% both physically and mentally (game prep). He isn't far off but he has to get there before he can truly be evaluated. It is possible that he might be eased back into the line up during the pre season and be all good to go once the show begins but some think that he might start the season rotating in and out of the line up while he gets back to good.

I personally believe he will be fine to start the season but I suppose anything is possible.

With WM still a question mark (a little) I have to think that we will absolutely be carrying 8 D to start. Odd man out to me is Ellerby for now but we would be safer waiving Schultz when the time comes simply because I don't think there would be much interest in claiming him where KE would likely get snapped up.

So I guess I see us (as of today) on D going with DD VV MG RR JM or AM WM and NS being the additional along with either JM or AM whoever doesn't make the cut. I know that allot of us assume that JM has his spot locked up and he is close but judging by what he himself has said regarding how lucky he was to even get a spot and how much he had to improve his game to stick at the NHL level (and how hard he worked this summer) you have to think that he believed his season's end meeting where he was told that he should spend his summer working as hard as he can preparing for this season if he wants to stay with the team.

Too soon to tell but I do know this, both he and A Mart worked all summer so they are both competing for that spot. It will be interesting to see what happens. I think Jakes will keep his job and AM will be our #7 but it is still too soon to tell. Whoever is left will rotate in a few games as needed.

Of the Kids I am really happy with what I am seeing from Kozun. I know he is a smaller bottom 6 guy but he is 100% compete and will do whatever it takes to win. If he was an inch and a half taller he would have made the team already (imo) but he is having a great camp and is knocking on the door. If he doesn't make the team I think he will be an early call up if needed.

Pearson looks better to me today then he did all of last season. I don't know where we fit him in and think he will be in MCH but it wouldn't shock me if he started the season and got his 9 in before going down. He has overcome his balance issues (low right pivot adjustment) and is right there.

TT will start on RW on the 3rd line if he keeps up his hard work. He isn't a lock though or at least some people think that he isn't. I think he is having a great camp and has proven himself ready to go but it is early so it isn't set in stone.

Vey is the guy I have been hyping since before his draft. That said he will start his season in MCH.

Max is excited to be in L.A. and I am happy for him but he will star the season in MCH and I think he needs the time. He looks really good to me but a year of development in MCH would make him allot better.

Sorry I don't really have any definitives yet but I will by the weekend.

Who do you like 76?

What kids are catching you eye so far and who do you see sticking on D?

Also do you have a read on Scrivens yet?

I would love am to make this team i really like his offensive instint on joining the rush. I'm not as sold on muzzin. I however think Sutter perfers muzzin Alec sorta played his way into the doghouse ( or should be be barn with sutter ?) in the late season and few playoff games. I would love to see ellerby make it to mancheaster and play top defensive mins I think it would do a ton for his confidence. I think getting Schultz would make him a number 7. I can see a routation with willie martinez and schultz for the first while and sadly seeing a mart as trade bait when a spot for him opens elsewhere. I really hope he doesnt go but hes to talented in my mind to be a 7th.

I got to see the rookie games and andy andreoff is as good if not better then you have said I think I want this kid on the team out of camp. He has a way about him of standing out. Also i think hes got alot better hands then anyone is giving him credit for. I would rather have him on the roster then king. I have made no secret that i think king and nolan are the players that i think we need to replace. AA makes king expendable imo. Clifford makes the 3 lw better then king offensively and way more physical.

next toffoli makes the team as a 3rw bumping lewis down to 4rw. This would make nolan in the pressbox as i stated before i think nolan also played his way to doghouse (or barn) Only way i see him making it is a extra forward that plays when we need a more physical pressence. (ie against the duck coyates)He was a healthy scratch down the strenght and playoffs.

Vey and Pearson have caught my eye and i would love to see the both get some time this year. Vey in partculair because i can see him replaceing richards in a few years in the top 6 ( i see a 2nd line of vey pearson toffoli in 15 16) By then id move richards to 3rd center id have him replace fraser on the 4th line.

oh forgot scrivens I havnt yet got a read on him but from all ive read and heard last year. I think he will be just fine as our backup. I think he ll get around 20 games and will win 14 or so playing with alot of confidence behind a better then hes used to defense.
