They need to leave the Tournament in Canada. Crowd was electric in Montreal/Toronto
That is the exact opposite of what they need to do. Over saturating the tournament in Canada and starting to charge NHL prices is why the crowds have lessened in the last few years. They need to remember how this tournament got as big as it did.

Okay so where do you suggest they host the tournament? Are you a fan of the rotating schedule?

Absolutely not. Were there not the exact same attendance issues in Montreal? Why is it fair to have Canada host all the games and not have any Euros play in their home country? For their fans to never cheer for their country live?

Fair point. I'm actually shocked that the attendance is so low right now. Maybe because its a week night?

I don't necessarily hate the rotating schedule but they need to actually think when they hand these things out. Since 2011 they have now been in Buffalo twice and Montreal/Toronto twice. There is a natural fatigue that comes with having the same tournament in that close distant...all the time. They need to start spreading this thing out to markets that haven't seen it in a long time. I mean putting it in Buffalo again was just a pure attempt at a money grab from day 1.

Looks like a WWE crowd with people crammed into the camera's view behind the benches to give the perception of a full house despite barely anyone anywhere else.

I want this to goto Nashville sometime. Let's see them grow the game instead of sucking the Canadian and northern USA markets dry.

It's the first day. Vs a team headed for relegation. Plus the IIHF is stupid, these prelim games should be $15. This weekend is the true test.

Put the tournament in smaller Canadian cities like Halifax, Hamilton or Saskatoon. These cities rally completely behind the tournament and turnout for any game as a result. I still remember how electric the 03 tournament in Halifax was and how the city rallied around the tournament. Likewise in 2010 in Saskatoon.

if you wanted to pay $15 bucks you could have went to the arena and paid $15 bucks.

it's not the cost keeping people away. it's the product. NHL cities no longer work for World Juniors.

Weather, prices and maybe even a little disinterest. Plus, Buffalo just held this tournament like yesterday - unreal they are back there.

They better not even consider Buffalo/Toronto/Montreal for another 5 years. The West Coast needs a tournament, and then sprinkle Europe etc in there as well.

I feel very confident Vancouver and Victoria will be amazingly well on sales because there will be a huge demand for it since it has been so long.

Ottawa needs to host again too, that was amazing.

This as well. These big cities, especially when they host so regularly, just don’t work. Small towns will rally around this because it will be the hottest ticket in town.

Agree with this 100%. I was very close to making the trip from Boston to see team USA play, but I ultimately chose to skip it because of the location. I was in buffalo for the 2016 draft and there was nothing to do there outside of the draft party.

Maybe not at this point with everything going on, but that atmosphere was electric.

for the games to be successful in Ottawa we would need perfect weather, shuttle buses from every corner of the city direct to the arena (for free), free parking, free concessions, and of course, a quick bonus for every government employee to pay for the free ticket...you know, their time is valuable.

As others have said, they should put the tournament in small/college US cities (like Madison, WI or Ithaca, NY) and Canadian cities that do not have an NHL team (like Halifax, NS or Saskatoon, SK).

Make the ticket prices extremely affordable. Pretty much anyone who wants to watch should be able to.

Not familiar enough with Europe to suggest anything on the European rotation.
