If those salaries are correct we should be signing like 3-4 of the top guys lol. Bennett under 7? Ehlers under 8? Gavrikov under 6??? These are steals.

how about not to sign any of them and better try ASP, Wallinder, Johansson? there should be a reason we drafted them, right?
We need to sign a vet D man to help fix out with our historically bad pk. It'll go a long way in getting us into the playoffs.

ASP isnt a PKer at least not at this moment, Wallinder is still very unrefined and I've been really impressed by Anton Johansson's young stint in the A. But I think he needs a full season down there before I'd bring him up full time.

That's why I'd really like to sign Orlov on a 2 year deal. So our PK top 4 would be Seider, Ed, Orlov and Chiarot with Albert filling in if any of the top 4 get a penalty. I really like that group.

Why Orlov? He isn't even a top pair PK guy for the Hurricanes.

Gavrikov and Provorov are main PK guys at their teams.

Of these options its either Gavrikov/Provorov or Orlov to put with Seider.

Though I'm not sure if I'm sold on the first two on a longer term contract.

depends how big of a step back people are okay with next year. I don't hate the idea, but we're going to be drafting top10 at that point and we would need to just embrace that. I do think Anton deserves more time in GR to be ready to make the jump, though. Along with Buium. At some point it's a disservice to the player to rush them up.

Ed-Mo
Chia-Albert
Wally-ASP
Petry

I don't know. Writing it out isn't as bad as the mental image of it.

We're going to have to commit big money to Edvinsson in the not too distant future and further down the line ASP.

How much cap space can we allocate to the defense?

Gavrikov and Provorov are going to ask for a large commitment and could garner a bidding war.

Orlov gives us more flexibility in the long run while not compromising is talent and skill in the short run.

A bit off topic, but I find it amusing that so many posters throughout the Red Wing threads ASP is brought up as though he's some Holy Savior of our blueline...I mean - wtf am I missing? Has he yet played a single game while in a Red Wing jersey? People are already slotting him as a top pair Dman... 🤨

You're right until Axel proves it in the NHL, fans dont know exactly what level he'll reach. However how he has performed at the world jrs and in the SHL at his age is a pretty good indicator. And it's not just the counting stats he passes the eye test as well.

I'm gonna say it...This has Zadina-esque like disappointment at the NHL level written all over it.

If he's available, I like Lindgren most as our fallback UFA LD option. Also don't think the comparison between ASP and Zadina holds up well with how well ASP has already played in tournaments and men's leagues. Might not be Quin Hughes level impact, and people are setting themselves up for some disappointment probably, but I think it is pretty unlikely he just flames out entirely and is wholly ineffective.

For clarity sake, I dont think ASP reaches Makar, Hughes level. He's got a good shot at being an Adam Fox who I always thought is over rated but still a great player.

ASP has too much hockey IQ to flop like Zadina.

If this is just a general complaint of projecting the futures of young prospects, perhaps there is a better place to discuss hockey for you than a site called Hockey's Future.

If you have specific criticisms of ASP, let's hear 'em. I go back and forth on him quite a bit and have my reservations, but he does have quite a nice pedigree for a prospect.

I don't think he's gonna be a top pair Dman but as I said before, could he possibly be worse than Holl as a righty on the bottom pair?

And he has been playing in a men's league over in Sweden hasn't he?

Gavrikov... but I have a hard time seeing him want to sign with us absent a material overpayment. I would be fine Lingren and Provorov. Ekbald is too damaged at this point.

I think most people here and NHL analyst types are thinking he'll be a solid top 4 D who can run the PP. Which would be a huge addition.
I expect him to grow into that role. But:
1) He will make mistakes along the way.
2) His strengths do not fix the PK.

Trade for or sign at least one veteran defenseman who plays good defense and is good at the PK. There will still be plenty of time and money to make everything work as the kids develop and need new deals.
