Cassidy will likely have the reigns for the remainder of the season and, depending on the results, he may be offered the position permentaly in the off season. Should it not end well, anticipate that they will go through the process of looking outside the organization. The folks who will be tasked with leading that search may also change by that time should the season not end well.

If that is the case, it makes you wonder where they've set the bar for him. If they fail to make the playoffs, is that on Cassidy or are there are other things they would be evaluating him on? If you're Cassidy, do you accept the position under the constraint to make the playoffs knowing what you know about the team and their current position? I guess it is how the club defines the season "ending well" because I can't imagine ANY coach coming in at this point and believing that a playoff appearance could be unquestioningly be achieved.

Pretty sure Hitchcock said he is retiring from coaching but he would be the type of coach that this pathetic management team favors.

Gallant should be the front runner but doesn't he have an average record outside of last season with Florida?

I have a bad feeling about this.

Gerard Gallant could be a good choice, did a great job with Saint John in the QMJHL and did well with Florida. Kevin Dineen another solid choice, knows how to win being around the Black Hawks, Leaman could be good too, very different style than Claude, could be exactly what this team needs. I would be good with any of these 3.

I'll take a wild card and say Marc Crawford. He's didn't go to Ottawa to be an associate coach for long.

But really, it'll be Cassidy or Donato.

I dunno...seems very odd with the timing.

CJ was promise he'd stay on until seasons end...now Hitchcock is released...I see him coming here.

Either Leaman or Gallant. Hitchcock would be the worst possible hire.

I wanted Leaman when we thought was going to get ousted after last year and I still don't think that'd be a bad option. Obviously no NHL track record would be the only concerning thing... my second choice would probably be Capuano but I actually don't like that he's a Bostonian... sometimes having too many Bostonians in the organization isn't a great thing (is Leaman a bostonian? if so then **** me haha)

I don't really care who it is. I just want them to start valuing skill and speed and move away from this dinosaur like view of being bigger and tougher to play against that they adhere to just to cling to this nonsense of being the Big Bad Boston Bruins. The league is moving away from that, so get with the times. Get an offensive minded guy that is willing to better integrate the young, skilled players, and not obsessed with the Riley Nashs and Kevan Millers of the world. You know, guys with limited skills and zero upside?

You probably then need a GM who isn't so proficient at finding those guys.

(Cue the "the coach (he just fired this morning) was directing him to acquire all these lousy players because you know coaches and GM's talk right?)

I really hope I'm wrong, but watching the presser today - Sacco will be the next HC :help:

While I think Sweeney and Claude were close to being on the same page, time will tell going forward. I do think that Neely's tougher, grittier, harder to play against mythos aligned indirectly to Claude's favoritism towards lower risk, less upside kind of players, so something has to give. I still have hope though because Sweeney's picks seem to be more along the lines of higher skilled guys with some upside. But again, the proof is in the pudding.

I'll admit, I'd be a bit heartbroken if Quinn left BU (out of my own selfishness; that's what working for the team gets ya)

Don't worry.

There was a member of the Bruins old boys network coaching in last night's Beanpot.

His head was even shaped just like Claude Julien's.
