Poll:

The BlueJackets current roster can legitimately complete for a Stanley Cup with their current roster, this poll is assuming they have no major injuries.

I am voting NO, I think they still need to upgrade the Blue line, and Bob needs to prove He can play at a high level consistently throughout a playoff run.

No, we don't have a Keith-Seabrook, Stralman-Hedman, or even a McDonagh-Girardi. Can't imagine us going all the way in the playoffs without a top pair at least close to those.

I think we really need to see how the team fits together come October, but I think the forwards are as good as any squad in the entire league.

To contend, we need a healthy Murray playing up to his potential and someone who can play at an elite level alongside him. I don't think that player is under contract with the franchise yet. We have a great stable of young guys, but I don't think any of them are the answer for another 2-3 years. Johnson, Savard, Murray, Tyutin aren't good enough as a top 4 to make a deep run, as some others have said.

Bob also needs to be consistently good to great.

I voted yes.

The forwards corps, as has been noted, has to be considered very good.

A healthy Bobrovsky and Murray along with very solid two way play from the forwards makes this a very competitive roster.

Theoretically, we need another top dman, but in this cap world, the differences between most top rosters aren't all that significant. It's how the team is playing come playoff time, health, and a dose of good fortune.

That being said, we will miss the playoffs.

Forward corps is good enough. Goaltending is good enough. Issue is our defense. Johnson-Savard are a great 2nd pairing, but we need Murray to step up / stay healthy and need to find him a good partner.

Could we contend? Probably, in the same way that the Flyers contended a few years back with good forwards, defense, but crappy goaltending. But to be a Cup favorite, we need a proven defensive top-pairing.

No. The defense needs to be better - either through a roster change or existing players playing better. If that happens, the offense plays like it's capable and Bob is on fire, then yes, we can contend. That's a lot of if's.

Anything is possible but on paper I voted no. Need a better D, consistent goaltending and I want to see if the team can score like it did last year every year.

I think yes. I don't think many teams in the East are better and I don't believe that New York or Tampa could beat us in a best of 7. Now beating the West best in 7 is a whole other story.

Yes. We are good enough to make the playoffs. Anything can happen once you make the playoffs.

Yes, but with the caveat that we'd have to be extremely fortunate w/r/t blueline injuries. We have quality, but not sufficient quality depth IMO.

I voted no. We don't have enough on defense. No true number one. Murray is always hurt, further diluting the top four. And our third pairing is among the worst in the NHL.

If we were going to trade Anisimov and Dano, why did we not do so for a defenseman?
I honestly don't get why everyone is so happy about trading for a forward that was redundant when we badly needed a defenseman. And then to top it off we made that same forward that has never scored 30 goals our highest paid player.

You think Ryan Johansen might have a legitimate contractual beef? I sure see drama in our future.

I hope you all really love Prout playing in the top four when the inevitable injuries come. Every NHL team has to deal with injuries. So you want your third pairing to be strong so if they have to move up, it isn't a nightmare. Prout is like a traffic cone out their on the ice. During the Hurricanes game near the end of the season I saw him get deked so bad that he fell down on the ice.

Saad has won two Cups. Big flippin' deal. Was he responsible for those Cup wins? Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook might have something to say about that.

Sincerely disagree. Connauton/Goloubef/Prout/Falk/Paliotta can all be successful in that role.

I'm not concerned with Prout even playing. I see any of our plethora of 5th-8th dmen beating him out and leaving him in the press box. Conn and Goloubef should both be ahead of him, and I'm cautiously optimistic about Paliotta..

I agree we need at least one more top 4 minute eating defenseman to shelter the JJ-Savard pairing and give a healthy Murray a legitimate partner.

A lot of folks saying we need another d-man. Another top 4 d-man. "We don't have enough defensemen", etc..

IMO we have two second pairs and a third pair. Adding a d-man doesn't upgrade anything unless we get a real top pair guy.

Hard to predict how a season and postseason will go. I'm not sure anyone predicted in the ballpark of mangames lost for last season!

I would need to see some games. Not sure who will grow and who will regress on the D (I don't expect everyone to always grow).

I don't see Hartnell repeating (not to say he will suck)
Will Wennberg make a step?
Will Figs be in the same ballpark (betting aRuss says yes)?
Will the team be struck by lightning, beaten by mobsters, hit by a train, and spat on by sick children in the streets and receive all sorts of infectious diseases (a rough equivalent of the injury situation last season)?
Will Murray be a giant difference maker?
Will beer still require a down payment and 18% interest?

I'm hopeful for next season, all being said. Sucks that we still have to wait a while before this thing gets kicking.

Murray and whoever will partner him are up for a serious raise in status whenever this team starts to win.

The next must have thing could be by then be a middleweight bouncer in the fourth-line... teams seeking out some true grit to help their play-off efforts.
