"All-in" is relative, but if not now, when? There is a pretty good chance that this is the apex of the older core + younger core together. Many think thats a reason to half measure it, but Chris Drury doesn't have a lifetime contract. He has also not made any large scale trades to bring in a difference making player in his 1.5 years as GM. He has a cache of assets. Legitimate star players are available. A looming 1st round series against his teams most hated rival (who buy the way are also looking to add big). The roster is better than it was at this point last year. There are more reasons to make major additions than not.
If your (not you, just in general) reasoning is "Oh well the Rangers arent winning the Cup anyway" than you're playing the wrong game.
My reasoning is to try and get more cracks at the cup, than just one or two. I have no issues going after rentals but it has to be for the right price.
Last year, we didn’t go too crazy and got some good depth players. Cost us two 4ths and a 2nd at the time that became a 1st since we made it to the ECF. We got a deep run with Copp, Motte, and Vatrano. No complaints here. Rather go that route than sending a lot of assets back for one rental player, even if they are a big name.
You would pay a premium price for a rental? Because they aren't going to trade him for a rental price.Meier would be the best player cost notwithstanding plus the contract extension issue. I'd still take him as a rental. Next choice would be Tarasenko or Labanc with $ retained.
Not a bad way to save face.Hilarious that he thinks any team wants him at this point.
This was my fear when Isles added Horvat and if Devils do indeed get Meier. Just on the Dolan factor alone, it could cause Drury to do something pretty dumb in the near future that would really set this team back."All-in" is relative, but if not now, when? Interesting to see Beauvilier up there. I wouldn’t hate it of other options fall through and he could be add at a good price
