"All-in" is relative, but if not now, when? There is a pretty good chance that this is the apex of the older core + younger core together. Many think thats a reason to half measure it, but Chris Drury doesn't have a lifetime contract. He has also not made any large scale trades to bring in a difference making player in his 1.5 years as GM. He has a cache of assets. Legitimate star players are available. A looming 1st round series against his teams most hated rival (who buy the way are also looking to add big). The roster is better than it was at this point last year. There are more reasons to make major additions than not.

If your (not you, just in general) reasoning is "Oh well the Rangers arent winning the Cup anyway" than you're playing the wrong game.

My reasoning is to try and get more cracks at the cup, than just one or two. I have no issues going after rentals but it has to be for the right price.

Last year, we didn’t go too crazy and got some good depth players. Cost us two 4ths and a 2nd at the time that became a 1st since we made it to the ECF. We got a deep run with Copp, Motte, and Vatrano. No complaints here. Rather go that route than sending a lot of assets back for one rental player, even if they are a big name.

Depth adds only get you so far, star players are what win you Cups. A guy like Meier fits with our core now and later. I think they’ll figure it out with the money to keep him around without changing the look of the team too much. It’s a risk worth taking with the amount of picks and producers we have

Meier would be the best player cost notwithstanding plus the contract extension issue. I'd still take him as a rental. Next choice would be Tarasenko or Labanc with $ retained.

As someone who probably has between 15 and 25 years left on this planet (barring any major mishaps), I'd prefer to not spend half of that time watching reruns of the dark ages and would rather have a team that is perennially competitive.

4th for Holden
4th for Motte

Go to war.

I still think the Rangers get any of Auston Watson Domi and Barbashev Mikkola Edmundson at the deadline.. all bring some nasty and skilll.. I’d love Tarasenko but I bet he gets dealt to Penguins or Capitals just because they're a rival.

If the Wild put Ryan Hartman on the table, Drury better get on the phone. Skill with some nasty. He is entertaining too. Sometimes goes overboard but every team needs that from time to time.

When do the Rangers make their 1st trade? 1st, 2ed 3rd week of February, wait until last minute or injuries happen? Does Hajek get moved for a depth forward with grit like Hajek for Erne?

There is no way I mortgage the farm to acquire Meier. Good player being over hyped. If he comes on the cheap, okay.

You would pay a premium price for a rental? Because they aren't going to trade him for a rental price.

Trade Panarin for a huge haul. Add Meier and Chychrun.

Damn, this GM'ing stuff is so easy.

Meier is the best possible add.

I still say go in with what we have and keep the assets for future cheap quality depth to back-fill in when we start to move on from the aging vets

This was my fear when Isles added Horvat and if Devils do indeed get Meier. Just on the Dolan factor alone, it could cause Drury to do something pretty dumb in the near future that would really set this team back.

Interesting to see Beauvilier up there. I wouldn’t hate it of other options fall through and he could be add at a good price

He completely lost his finishing touch but he plays with speed and always killed us. Canucks need to retain but I’d take him, I think I prefer Garland from VAN though

Can we even afford to re-sign any guy we would get? We're close to the cap as it is with our RFAs.

Idt we could re-sign any acquisition we could get. Meier? That's 8 mil in the free market ... the albatross contracts won't make it happen.
