I want to downgrade to F after reading a lot more about Walman. f***. Another individual that has had trouble learning how to be a team player. Can see why coaches and GM's have moved on from this guy.

Same here. At first I was just glad they did something, but upon further reading, I think the media and mouthbreathers have a new punching bag, and scapegoat for the goaltending.

I read this from the Trades board and tell me if this doesn't sound a bit like last season's Nurse, or Ceci. Granted, this guy has also played with Ceci a lot this season and his numbers improve away from Ceci, so we know he's at least better than him...

"The Oilers just gave up a 1st Rd pick and a prospect, for a Dman who’s been a HEALTHY SCRATCH on 2 different teams in the last calendar season.

I’m not sure we’ve ever seen that happen before.

To each his own I guess. I got sucked in at one time too. Thinking it finally clicked for Walman mentally…..

Then all the bad stuff started re-appearing for almost an entire season.. The overskating of pucks, the blind passes to his invisible friends, etc, etc. He’ll break your heart at the worst times.

You’ll be thinking, “all those idiots said he’s horrible” thinking your team is laughing all the way to the bank….Then out of nowhere you’ll find out.

Teams thought they could fix Brandon Pirri too.

Walman is the Dman version of Brandon Pirri.

San Jose has made some questionable trades but they hit paydirt on this one.

He’s basically a filler Dman. The type who can play a lot of minutes on bad teams because he’s very physically talented.. Where everything else around him is bad, so you start accepting his bad traits too, because he has some excitement to his game as well.

That’s the strange test case called Jake Walman. This won’t end well for the Oilers."

D.

This trade deadline was always going to be built upon The Summer of Jeff. That fiasco created an even bigger trade deadline shopping list to include top 6 forward; top 4 level dman (was always going to be a primary need); middle roster size and functional heaviness; and goaltending tandem 1A/1B. It was supposed to be about one big add (D upgrade) and a support piece.

Walman is a good get even if it tilts to a leftporium heavy defense, talent and budget. Kulak's utility has been a game saver for this team. Walman will get immersed into a playoff environment and his versatility as a swing 3LD and 2RD will be good. It's his ability to defend that I want to see and assess.

Frederic and waiver guy Jones is more of a leap dealing for an injured player. Dealing for an injured American UFA player has its risks if this team doesn't hit on its planned deep run. Activate Tin foil hat mode and squint a bit and not hard to see a line to buddy Turtle's team as a cheap Sam Bennett lite replacement if Bennett buggy demand prices him out of Florida. Oil can't afford a UFA walk and a cap dump with their shrinking asset pool.

Not throwing yet more assets and money to fix top six wing scoring issue is a big fail. But so is giving everyone no trade deals and wooing a $3 million Jeff Skinner to watch Oiler games in the press box. Not getting a goaltender upgrade was always going to be a reach with all of the roster holes. But this organization has basically never prioritized this critical position.

C. If Frederic plays, contributes and re-signs.

Typical kneejerk fan reactions to judge a player before they even play a game. Remember how many people hated the Kane signing? And he was nothing but a professional and impact player.

Let the guy play before you start saying he's crap.

You realize that we're being asked to grade the deadline before seeing any of these guys play for us, right? That's the topic of this thread. As in this is all speculation, Einstein.

Beat it. You might want to go back to Nanaimo and keep stroking your porpoise .

I swear, the collective IQ of this board has fallen off a cliff with all of the homer bots who have come out of hiding since yesterday...

YAY! They did it! They tried! Stan gets an A++ for effort! Maybe the Oilers finished in second for Rantonen like they finished second for the Stanley Cup, which is obviously the same thing as winning the Stanley Cup based on so many awful takes I've seen here...

What do you think the Oilers offered for Rantanen? Picks, Savoie, and who off the Roster?

For sure a plethora of picks and one or two of Savoie, Akey and or O'Reilly. Off the roster it's hard to say, Carolina was looking for young offensive forwards and we let St Louis take ours for basically nothing in the summer. Plus with the NMC we have not many are left!

Reminds me of the Mactavish-era effort to outbid other teams to be the one to acquire a winger(Clarkson) on a future albatross contract, but the deal falling through for reasons outside of their control

Rantanen is a much better player obviously, but 12 million is already a massive overpayment even accounting for a rising cap, and 13+ is even worse. Guenztal's contract isn't even a year old and it's already looking like a bargain.

Trading your 1st round pick (twice in the last few years) is a serious matter. Holloway was also a 1st rounder so if you include that offer sheet fiasco then that's 3 gone in a short period of time. That's a big bite for a team with one NHL prospect (Savoie) and possibly a second (O'Reilly). Even a church mouse couldn't live on what's left after that. Skinny indeed.

Some posters are talking about re-tooling when the Mc-Drai era is over but it will have to be done long before then. Kane, Arvi, Henrique and Perry will all be exiting within the next 18 months. How far behind are Hyman and even Nuge? The Viking will probably be gone too.

Re-tooling will be a big job. I guess the answer could be free agents but that's a story for another post. We know how that has gone. This isn't an indictment against Walman but it was a high price to pay nonetheless.

I don’t think you read my words very carefully.I never said anybody cheated.

I said it’s an injury lottery that Dallas and Florida won and that Edmonton didn’t know the rules until the last day because they didn’t have clarity on Kane situation until then.

The salary cap combined with a late season trade deadline, and it’s no cap playoff have resulted in teams, placing players on LTIR for six weeks with ambiguous injuries or they just got lucky and a player with a significant salary has gone down to injury, but will be back in time for the playoffs, but not the regular season.

The Devil’s lost that lottery because Jack Hughes injury is causing him to be lost for this season.

The stars were able to put Seguin and Heiskanen on long-term injured reserve freeing up $15 million which they spent on Rantanen and Granland and other players.

It’s a luck lottery now. Has nothing to do with a general manager skill unless they don’t have a brain like Jeff Jackson.

Yup, LTIR loophole needs to go.

Just another thing boosting sunbelt teams that don’t need the help. Might as well run a simulation after the TDL and award the Cup from that

The player has played 255 games. This is the same kind of nonsense as "Don't judge Connor Brown till he's played games here which turned into wait till playoffs which turned into wait till he's healthy this season.

I dunno. Established that Walman has a shaky record with coaches and has burned through teams lately. Hopefully he smartens up here. He's the splash signing so he better be ready. More fishbowl here than in SJ where nobody even knows theres a team there..

Depending on how things go next couple months or years this org could chase me back to following the Elks a bit.

We have basically no picks left. We've squandered our prospects. Oh well. Oilers are the NHL team we have and its b een much worse before. Long as we have McDrai theres always a chance.

F1 starts next week, I can’t wait for that. No goalie upgrades really has me looking forward to summer.
