I think its also kinda sh*tty someone like Marchand goes to Florida for a second. This on a day some guys cost a fortune. Boston obviously let him pick a team and Florida gave a return that is probably a third of what it would be for any other team. How is that fair?
its because the Tkachuk injury. Thats the only reason and boston was dealing a limited market. Not many could afford Marchand at full hit. Plus Marchand chose where he wanted to go.

Its a bigger issue. Without the Tkachuk injury Zito has to sit on his ass on all those trades except the jones trade, who again, cried and whined his way to florida.

So I agree with most of your post. except the bolded. Look at our point leaders after Bouchard, Mcdavid and Leon.

We need a top 6 winger, the team knows we need a top 6 winger and we DID NOT get a top 6 winger...
I'm going on record to say that this won't be a problem in the playoffs.

First off, the whole team will tighten up, and so 5 on 5 will be a largely defensive standoff.

Also, the playoffs are a different game. We have talented players who are underperforming, and we are adding Kane and Frederic. Our first two rounds will be the easiest ones. They are tough opponents, especially Vegas, but they are defense-first teams too and will be predicable.

We will find a mix that works, and there will be under performing players who find that needed gear. For 4 top six winger spots, there are 8 candidates. We just need them to play a solid two way game first, and keep up with the play. Maybe just one scoring threat on the wings per line.

Florida won the TDL Injury Lottery as did Dallas. It’s how the Cup is won now. Vegas Tampa and Chicago are the previous TDL Injury Lottery winners.

I think this will get far worse with a rising cap too. The entire league is a sham. It’s nearing WWF levels.

Yeah. It's dumb. I'm really surprised this loophole exists. They could achieve some compromise by limiting the cap you can exceed to some fraction of the LTIR'd player. Or just put a cap on it so you can only exceed up to some amount (much less than 10M) regardless of the injured player's contract. There could be an option to comply and if you don't adhere to these then the LTIR'd player just isn't eligible to come back for the playoffs.
I seriously dont understand why the cap magically comes off for the playoffs, it should be a snapshot of the last day of the season and held and apply to the playoff roster. If, not just rid of it, or allow an overage for all teams.

Yes, these suggestions you have presented here make much more sense--- so that "negative stuff" like injuries are not used to advantage by "lucky" teams.

Another option would be to have the salary cap extend into the post season. So if you want to bring a guy like Tkachuk back then you have to clear his salary cap space the same way you would have to in the regular season.

That won't happen of course because if you have an unlimited roster size (in the playoffs) then how can you have a salary cap?

I suspect that there will be rule changes regarding LTIR in the next player agreement.

C-

I really like the Walman and Frederic trades, and Jones is a perfect bandaid until Kane and Fred are healthy.
Especially relative to prices paid, those two deals are A's.

But needed an upgrade in net, and banking on a 2022 Mike Smith-like post deadline turnaround is by Skinner is dumb as f**k. The fact that they also have zero depth in goal is also moronic.

Even Jarry at 50%, who can stay in the AHL. would have been better

Gave it a C

I like the adds. Jones looked good in his first game. Walman should make the blueline better. And the grit added with Frederic and Jones will help overall. But not goalie? We aren't going far.

Don’t think the Oilers can cry about this excuse. They had a ton of cap open up with the Kane LTIR to do the same thing with and then opted to do nothing after Walman. And no one forced us to give all of freaking Henrique, Arvidsson, and Skinner NMCs either.

This org doesn’t get to cry about what Florida and Dallas got done.

You do know you need to include Edmonton in there w/ Kane money. Edmonton totally pulled the same move with him

Not sure why alot of ppl are acting like these other teams are using a dirty tactic while Edm are the angels of the NHL in this

Your biggest weakness was not addressed, the most important position on the ice. Skinner is noticeably worse compared to last year (and he wasn’t good then), Pickard is not an answer. How you don’t move heaven and earth to address the goalie gives you a fail grade. This team is not as good as last year top to bottom, they are not scoring 5 goals a night in the playoffs. One period away from an all time epic comeback and cup win falls short, now we are older and slower with a goalie who is regressing. I can’t say there is much hope inside of me this year, maybe they surprise.

I don't see us beating Vegas in the 2nd round.

50/50 if we beat the Kings.

No chance we beat Colorado
/ Jets / Dallas
Meh, anything can happen once we are in playoffs. We go as deep as McDrai take us.

In other news 880 ched was challenging anyone who didn't think Oilers GM deserves an A for TDL moves and who else they should've gotten. They brought in guests who all gave Oil an A .

Let's see if Kane shows up to game #1 100% healthy first.
If he is magically healthy and is getting 18min TOI right away then yes he should be in that group.

I don't think Kane will be an upgrade over Max Jones these playoffs even if he returns. Not the same as Stone.

I don’t think you read my words very carefully.I never said anybody cheated.

I said it’s an injury lottery that Dallas and Florida won and that Edmonton didn’t know the rules until the last day because they didn’t have clarity on Kane situation until then.

The salary cap combined with a late season trade deadline, and it’s no cap playoff have resulted in teams, placing players on LTIR for six weeks with ambiguous injuries or they just got lucky and a player with a significant salary has gone down to injury, but will be back in time for the playoffs, but not the regular season.

The Devil’s lost that lottery because Jack Hughes injury is causing him to be lost for this season.

The stars were able to put Seguin and Heiskanen on long-term injured reserve freeing up $15 million which they spent on Rantanen and Granland and other players.

It’s a luck lottery now. Has nothing to do with a general manager skill unless they don’t have a brain like Jeff Jackson.

Bowman basically said the other day "we can outscore Skinners mistakes" problem is he assumes they can get 4+ goals a game? When Skinner can change a 0-0 game to a 0-4 game in the span of 4 seconds? Knob better man the f*** up this playoffs and yank the goalies when they suck.

Cooper benched Koocherov, why can't we bench our dumbass players when they do dumbass things? (Leon is the only exemption now and forever he a God)
