because jones is like a top 10 dman in the league and does everything. hes 25 and signed for 8 years which needed the whole sign and trade thing from CBJ.
none of those are true for reilly.

You are underselling Rielly and there was no sign and trade. Jones was not a UFA. Hawks traded for him and signed him to the max 8 years.

yes my bad/mistake ... either way im not underselling reilly ... i like him but hes no where near the value of jones.

who are these imaginary UFA we had available for trade since dubas took over ?
according to wiki he took over summer 2018 ... jvr and bozak left that year and i could not find 1 pending UFA since that left ............

Are people just making shit up or if google wrong ?

Do you follow the Leafs and actually watch the games?

Or just rely on Wikipedia and google for what little you know about hockey?

Can’t believe you’d try to proclaim the Leafs haven’t lost a UFA since 2018.

That’s embarrassing.

F

You have to take context when grading these. Today's picks are based on the cap space available and the actions taken previously. One cannot just this as an absolute So he gets an F

This make no sense, you talk about context and gave him an F though you knew he didn't have the cap space to make big moves lol.

I’m guessing the F is because he was the one who created the severe lack of cap space. It’s a carry over grade from his past failures

I want to change my grade from a C+ to B+

We are a much deeper and balanced team up front

If he adds a Dman, hes getting bumped to A-

If he adds another significant forward via trade/FA, he gets an A

Looking more like a B+ at this point. With little cap space we’ve added some nice depth, some with good potential to outplay their cap hits.

if he ends up trading holl or dermott (or both) for a stabble dman with size then:

A
without that B

Holl is staying, period. They're not going to find another guy who can play right side in the #4 spot for $2M. Not to mention the fact that they made a trade to protect him.

Checking through the FA tracker there aren’t many signings I wish the Leafs made instead of the team that did the deal

I don’t know enough about Mrazek to question if we should have brought Rittich back cheap or gone higher for an Ullmark or traded for Kuemper. That’s my only question. All of the signings targeted needs.

Im ok that we didn’t grab a hard rock d. Let’s see what the kids can do and grab one at the deadline.

Given the cap room, I think he did okay. Didn’t get a Bogo replacement which is pretty significant for the penalty kill.

I like that our team got a lot younger and our forward group is a lot more gritty.

I'm trending towards a B+ ... Bringing in Bunting and Ritchie for a lesser cost brings elements the top 9 needs. Kase is a decent risk/reward depth signing. Bringing in Kampf should help mitigate the loss of Hyman on the PK and provide some centre depth.

Mrazek is a solid pickup.

Sucks that they couldn't retain Bogo or win the bid for Hakanpaa ... and at this point there isn't the veteran depth on the blue line that I was hoping for.

This is the issue right now. It's ironic that Bogosian is exactly the player this team needs and he was had for a song.

I like our top four, I like Dermot as a #6. There surely must be a physical vet DMan who can kill 8-10 minutes a game that Leafs can acquire. They won't move the puck like Bogosian, but they.can fill the void.

Shame that he wanted to go to the US because of COVID and wanting to be closer with his family.

Ritchie & Kase are good value signings. Do NOT overpay overrated players like Hyman. What is with the media whining about losing this guy? Average player who leeched off Matthews. Everyone will forget that guy by October.

Ah come in he was a solid player, putting him with Mikheyev and Kerfoot those few games they started generating chances and scoring. He was not worth his contract but theres no doubt he's a good player and many will miss him. Either way we move forward and perhaps your right, we may not miss a beat.

Actually they will be looking at the Oilers subpar defence and wondering whether the dollars spent on Hyman might have been wiser to go to Larsen instead of Ceci!

Tomas Tatar played in only 5 of Montreal's 22 playoff games and was a healthy scratch throughout almost the entire playoffs, including against our Leafs so Habs could play their own kids instead.

Hopefully Dubas noticed that Tatar was up in the team pressbox, where he was during the Leafs/Canadiens playoff round.

Shouldn't our Leafs be looking for players that can put them over the top in the playoffs as opposed to sit in the pressbox come playoff time?

I'd personally be looking for playoff warriors not playoff watchers. :wg:

Ritchie signed, not Tatar, breathe easily

lol they might have been able to score a few more goals and win one or two more games if Tatar was on the ice.

Solid stuff from The Dube. I'd have taken Tatar over Ritchie. But one of those guys -- plus Engvall -- is going to be able to step into the role. Finding someone to play with the best goal scorer of the generation and the best playmaker of the generation on the same line in their primes will ultimately be pretty easy IMO. And this strategy of finding that guy is perfect. And just rotating guys is also fine.
