Keep in mind that it cost Calgary a 1st to trade one year of Monohan at $6 million, and IIRC, Toronto had to give up a 1st to get rid of 1 year of Marleau at the same price. Granted, the cap wasn't projected to increase as it is now, but the market has been set. Back injuries to players in their 30s don't age well. Especially when they're not doing the only thing they're really good at. I mean no one is acquiring him for the PK...
Monahan's 3 years before being traded:
48 pts
28 pts
23 pts

Kreider's last 3 (2 1/2) years:
54
77
20

Kreider 91 goals in that time Monahan 40

Some team would absolutely give an asset for Kreider, not a big asset, but something. Especially if NYR retained a million or so.

Mika Zibanejad: Similar player that's struggling with a negative contract (Stamkos, Palat, Lindholm, Huberdeau).

Chris Kreider: 2nd or 3rd + AHLer

K'Andre Miller: 2nd + AHLer

Adam Fox: 2-1sts, 1 top prospects (former 1st rounder), Top 2/4 defenseman that's team controlled (ex. Dobson + 1st + Cole Eiserman; Brandt Clarke + 2-1st + Danault; Sandin-Pellikka + Nate Danielson + JT Compher)

Artemi Panarin: 1st, 1 top prospect, Top 6 forward that's team controlled. (ex. 1st + Nate Danielson + Compher or Copp; Mavrik Bourque + Tyler Seguin + 2nd)

My views on these players may well be different than a majority of other responders, but here are my thoughts :

I have almost zero interest in MZbjd or CK. CK's back, age, lack of production, and contract are an issue, and MZjbd has a contract and decline in production that make both unattractive. Both would require substantial sweeteners to gain my interest.

KM is the guy I want. He has everything a top 4 defenseman needs. I value him the best of this group, and would offer a 1st++ to get him.

Conversely, I am not as high on Fox as others might be. He is very good in the O zone, but not so much in his own zone. My offer for him would be lower than for Miller.

Breadman is a tough call. Obviously is good with the puck both shooting and passing. Also a plus skater. He will probably draw a 1st and a 4th + a good young player and an A prospect.

CK was never a big assist guy but he set a career high in assists around 8 months ago. He started the season scoring goals. He has likely been playing through a back situation. It is unlikely that CK could skate well and score in the first 2 weeks of the season but then magically lost that ability for 3 months.

Back issues at his age are not an excuse to brush away but a giant enormous red flag.

Purely from a Sens fans perspective... not saying these are winning offers, but what I think we would be wise to offer.

Zibanejad - No go.

Kreider - with 20-30% retained for David Perron + JBD, maybe a mid-rounder.

KA Miller - No go. Like the player but there is just no fit.

Fox - Available: 1 of Chabot, Zub, or Jensen; 1 of Batherson, Greig, or Pinto; 1 of Giroux or Norris; any prospect, including Ostapchuk (half-season NHLer) and Merilainen (quarter-season NHLer); any pick.

Panarin - No real viable deal, especially when you factor in the NMC..... but maybe something around Batherson + Norris? I don't think we would part with Yakemchuk in a Panarin deal, which seems like it could be the only way to get it done.

If Colorado can't find a better 2C option elsewhere, I'd do Ross Colton and Casey Mittelstadt for Mika Zibanejad.

Possibly even turn it into a massive deal with Ryan Lindgren (50%) and/or Reilly Smith (50%) in the deal.

(For the record, Colton is a LW/RW now, not a C.)

NHL GMs are pretty dumb. Chris Kreider has a "reputation" around the league. The Rangers could still trade him at positive value IMHO. Despite his awful stats. It might not yield the Rangers any great return. But it won't be purely negative value IMHO. :dunno:
There are always lower end teams with lots of cap space willing to take a gamble on a player that is overpaid for their current production. It's also important to note that most of the time, teams don't dump guys like Kreider as soon as they have a bad season. We're talking about a guy who scored 39 goals and 75 points last season. It could be that he hit a wall, but I expect the Rangers will give him the chance to rebound before they dump him. That said, I think their GM is a buffoon, so who knows what he does.
