who on here really thinks we are going to make the playoffs? or should even try and make the playoffs.
with all the line shuffling on here and leaving off some young top prospects, just to give playing time to has beens. it that what burke was doing here and it did not get us any where.
nonis should get rid of players he thinks will not be here next year and play the ones that will be here next year.
over the summer go and sign some good ufa's, getzlaf, perry etc. offer them 10 mil over 7 years,,,,,, some how get the word out to them,,,,,

I'm a hardcore leafs fan but as much as this pains me to admit I doubt we make it:

1. No #1 goalie
2. Players adjusting to new coach
3. Depleted blueline w/loss of Gardiner
4. No real grit up front
5. Same roster as last year with miminal upgrades.

The coach and the players should and will try to win as many games as possible to try and get to the playoffs. And so they should.

Management I hope do nothing rather then try to force us in to the playoffs this season seeing as the team have so many holes a few trades wont fix it. I think they should not on purpose weaken us to hope for a better pick at the draft, but they should not try to strengthen us either, short term.

I dont think we make the playoffs this year.

Making the playoffs is pretty doubtful, but not out of the realm of possibilities. I believe we have a better shot at making the playoffs than finishing in the bottom 5. It will mostly come down to how well Carlyle can implement his system.

Carolina (Semin + J. Staal) and TB (Lindback + Carle + Hedman/Connolly potentially having breakout seasons) both look better than last year. I doubt we pass them.

Montreal has a better balanced team than we do, I think they'll finish ahead. But that's pretty up in the air.

Winnipeg has better D and better goaltending, we have slightly better forwards. I think they'll be ahead of us.

Personally I think we're bottom 3 in the Conference. Granted, it's a short season, so anything can happen. But our D is pretty thin, our goaltending is very thin, and we're thin down the middle. We're relatively strong on the wing, but our two best wingers are coming off of career years, who knows if theyll repeat that performance? JVR is the main wildcard.

Carolina will be interesting to follow this season, think they will be one of the harder teams to beat. It is them and to see if Oveckhin can bounce back that are 2 of the most interesting things this season. Gus at Detroit and Nash in New York is two other things along with the health status on Crosby.

I'd love to be optimistic but you've got to realize that this is essentially the same team that got us a top 5 pick. In a very competitive 48 game season, the Leafs have zero chance to make the playoffs unless Reimer plays like he did in his first season and Kessel plays even better than last year.

all you yes guys ,are still drinking burkies kool -aid

Maybe we are, but there isn't any reason we won't start this season like the last one. Anything is possible, jump on board and just Beleaf, like a kid at Christmas.

The stars would all have to line up just right for the Leafs to make the playoffs. It is possible but unlikely.

I don't think the Leafs win their first game until the 2nd Week of February. They will never recover - kids will come in and inject some youthful exuberance - but too little too late will be this years M.O.

With the sound bytes, and moves/lack of moves, from Nonis, I get the feeling that we are in #tanknation mode. I want the Leafs to win every game they play, and I want them to make the playoffs, and win the cup. NOW.

But, I am a realist, maybe a slight pessimist... this squad and the personnel aren't ready to make that step yet. I do think the best thing for the long-term health of this club is for us to pick up one of the available C's in the draft this year, MacKinnon and Barkov being my targets. I'd love to be able to find a way to get two top fives though and get Drouin as well. One can dream.

You have to earn your respect.

Leafs haven't done that at all.

So my answer is no. I'll hope for better but I don't see it happening.

Carlyle's exact words: "The 23 best players will make this team."

IMO, best players are, in no particular order:

Forwards(14):
- Grabovski
- Brown
- Kulemin
- Lupul
- JVR
- Bozak
- Kadri
- McClement
- Frattin
- Komorov
- MacArthur
- Kessel
- Steckle
- Lombardi

Defence(7): Assuming Gardiner doesn't start season.
- Gunnarson
- Liles
- Phaneuf
- Franson
- Rielly
- Holzer
- Komisarek

Goaltenders(2):
Reimer
Scrivens

I want the Leafs to make it, but I don't think they will.

And I think we need to look at what can be done this summer for the long term health of the franchise. Meaning if we're out (or even a big long shot) at the deadline, we need to be sellers and stockpile picks for this deep draft.
