GDT: PLAYOFFS: The Canes are Able

The monkeys paw may be curling to get janky back in… Seems like the thing to do if hall can’t go would be to put Roslovic in his spot and put janky in at 4c, but since that’s not how they’re practicing I’m going to figure it’s because they think hall will still play tomorrow and want Roslovic to get more reps at center.

All predictions wrong or your money back

Not necessarily, we've seen countless times how a seemingly minor move/hit can sometimes cause an injury, it's not the severity always as much as the how. In the dying seconds of a blowout you're not expecting a chicken-shit blindside hit, so you're not really braced or prepped for it. Bullshit like that should have a carryover penalty...otherwise there's nothing to discourage that kind of bitch move at the end of a game because even if he gets a penalty it never gets served, just counted as a stat. Honestly I think the more-likely cause of the injury is when he got tripped (uncalled of course) heading to the net and his leg hit the post pretty hard, probably hurt but not enough to sit out the rest of the game.

Also, Janky >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jost

IMO, the bolded is 99% the more likely cause of his missing practice.

The crosscheck just wasn’t anything that could cause a meaningful injury. There was no real collision, it wasn’t to an area that could easily be broken, no joints involved, and he was visibly not injured when he chased Sprong. If it was something like back spasms afterward, then those spasms were probably going to happen on the next hit regardless. IMO, this is a case where something just stuck in people’s memories and so it was top of mind when he turned up missing in practice.

A contact injury to the leg, on the other hand, is exactly the kind of thing that a player can skate through for a couple of periods. It’ll hurt and swell but that’s nothing they can’t deal with in the trainer’s room. It’s not till the next day that you think, yeah I shouldn’t be skating on this. It may even just be a precautionary rest, because why make it worse on purpose.

I wouldn’t read too much into any of it considering he walked off the ice looking fine.

Additionally...it's not game-day today, that's tomorrow. So if there's any chance he's sore you let it rest up a day and plug someone else into practice. If he's out tomorrow, slightly more concerning, but again if he was able to play out the period it's probably fairly minor overall.

Have a weird feeling Rod is gonna switch to Kooch for game 2 hope I’m wrong though

I'd be surprised. I know Shane Willis was pushing that narrative during Game 1, but I don't think Rod would try something like that. Maybe if Freddie was shaky in Game 1, the alternating starts might have happened, but right now it's looking like it's Freddie's net until he falters.

I was a big proponent of keeping the switching between goalies going in the playoffs.

But after seeing how cool Freddie was, I want Rod to stay with Freddie.

But I will be pissed if he sticks with Freddie and then we lose, because I was once a big proponent of keeping the switching between goalies going in the playoffs.

Looking at the schedule, I understand:

1 Sunday 4/20 3PM
2 Tuesday 4/22 6PM
3 Friday 4/25 8PM
4 Sunday 4/27 3:30PM
5 Tuesday 4/29 TBD

If there's a spot for Kochetkov to start, it's game 4. <48 hours between starts and a follow-up game 48 hours later. Makes sense to give Andersen a breather there.

I honestly wish he would. I'm pro-goalie rotation, especially if Freddie is our 1A option. Kooch is a wild card, but we KNOW Freddie's history of injuries/wearing out in the postseason.

would eat my shoe if Rod actually does rotate frequently sans injury or blowout, but I would happily eat that shoe.

I’ll just round out the group and say that, IMO, Roslovic is the obvious oddman out of those 4. Both Robinson and Carrier are the kind of physical players that we need in the playoffs (I believe Robinson had 8 hits today), and Jankowski is a more rounded center than Roslovic. Especially in away games, where we don’t control the matchups, Jankowski is going to have a decided edge over Roslovic in those games.
My guess is you'll see Jank in the away games when we can't control the match ups. A 4th line of Robinson/Jankowski/Carrier is like having a 2nd Staal line. It makes it difficult for Keefe to got 1st line on 4th line and expect too much of an advantage. Yes, there's an advantage but given size and toughness of that 4th line, it wouldn't be a pushover.
Also, KK was 20% in the dot yesterday. OOF. That will hurt us. Stank has a better FO history than that (so deos KK) what was up there?
Team was 39% at the dot. KK had a bad day, but Staal was only 50% and Roslovic was 41%.
Not to put too much stock in these cards, but:

Tells the story. Jersey’s top forwards earned their paycheck. The D and depth forwards got mutilated. The only guys mobile enough to thrive against the Carolina system are at the top of the lineup. Contain them, and the rest struggle to stay even.

It might not be exciting, but this is a series we can win in a boring, patient, grind-them-down manner. The road games should be really interesting as Keefe has a better chance to get 2-3 goals from the top line and then look for Markstrom to win it for him.

The Jersey board was all over this. They were all about lack of depth and underperformance of the bottom 6.
I know Freddie did well in that game for the most part, and "if it ain't broke don't fix it", and we know Rod's tendency to stick with the vets/"his guys"...but I do think PK would do well to get to play in front of a home crowd in the playoffs. I feel like the energy in that building would pump him up and give him a confidence boost.
Koochie has a significantly better home record that Freddie....

Counterpoint: Most of the posters on this board are better.

Agree to disagree. Again, I'm fairly certain I can look through the past playoff GDTs against the Rangers or Panthers and find similar posts from our fans. It's not a knock against either fanbase. It's simply the reality of being a fan and getting invested in the playoffs. Some people are going to post really stupid things in the heat of the moment.

Listened to 32 thoughts podcast and Friedman said that Canes were very vocal in positioning the League to not put us in the 3PM Easter game.

btw: fair number of blue (team sales) and red (resale) seats available for Game 2 if anyone needs one.

Sure. Some of y'all are bonkers. But it's like the AHL of crazies. Maybe one or two could make the league, but you aren't seeing much ice time in a NJ gdt.

I think it's game three. So Freddie roles on game two and we leave Raleighwood up 2-0. Is Kooch loses game three no biggie,.it's the Devils first home game and you expect them to come out firing. If he was wins Freddie has something me rest ready for the sweep. If Freddie loses you are on the road and he can close the door game 5.

I just don't see a down side to Kooch get my game three if we are up 2-0
