Playoffs Positivity Thread

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.

Will the Habs make the playoffs?

I think from a perspective of competing and also maximizing our opportunities to assess players and who might not stick around I would do the following moves:

Send Beck down
Call-up Roy (who would have gotten the call instead of Beck first time around if he wasn't hurt apparently) or Farrell
Put Newhook at C

That way you can see how Newhook does at C as Dvo's potential replacement and you can also evaluate Roy or Farrell before potentially dealing them this summer for a 2C. Roy IIRC had chemistry with Newhook.
Hughes reads my posts. E4

Stupid Detroit loses to Ottawa. Out shot them 49-23, too, but Ullmark wasn't having any of it.

Ottawa is @ Philadelphia tomorrow, which I expect them to win, so they will be 7 pts up on Montreal by the time the Vancouver game starts. Habs will have a game in hand.

Columbus is @ NJD tomorrow, and I also expect them to win that game as New Jersey is really faltering right now.

That means Montreal will be 6 pts back of a playoff spot again before Vancouver game.

In any case, the target may be switching to New Jersey anyway. Even though we're 8 pts back, we'll hold 3 games in hand on them.

NJD have a decently hard schedule, while Sens have a cake walk schedule.

Habs still have 2 ganes left vs Sens

My head says, "Close to a WC spot is exactly where this team should be as it progresses towards becoming a winner. Job done!"

My heart says, "Grab that %#$@ wildcard spot, you %#$@!*&!!!"
Now that the TDL has passed it doesn't seem like your head, heart, and nads are so much at odds. (I'm assuming your nads are also on board seeing Slaf wake up and Suzuki go on a tear)

True. At this point in the season there are no moves left except "Go Habs Go!". It's kind of liberating, actually!

As far as my recently-single nads, every day is trade-deadline...

My sincere commiserations old timer. Whether it's 'for the best' or not, it is still a major life change and you have my sympathy. Kent Hughes sat on his hands at the trade deadline, I figure you'd like your hands a bit busier and, ideally, not solo.

That might have not been the best joke but there's only so much room for euphemism left!

Alright, we need 2 points tonight to tie Columbus for WC2! They'll maintain it due to points percentage.

Tomorrow night, Vegas is @ CBJ while Montreal sits, so at least it's a tough match up for them. Vegas is 7-2-1 in last 10, but CBJ is 20-6-4 at home.

Columbus has 11 home games & only 7 away games left; however two of those away games are @ Ottawa!

Buffalo is @ Detroit. A Buffalo win would be cool, but you have to think Red Wings end their 6 game losing skid at some point.

Detroit absolutely faltering in March again.

They also hold the tie breaker. Need them to falter and have us go on a tear.

Yes, so even if they lose against Vegas they'll still hold WC2. After Vegas they host NYR & NJD we'll see what happens.

Montreal after tonight hosts Florida & Ottawa then are @ NYI.

First step is to draw with them.

Montreal has exactly 9 home games & 9 road games left.
