If it wasn’t for the slow start (4-9-2 in their 1st 15 games (last in the league at that point)) this team would easily be in a playoff spot. Since November 11th they are 26-17-3, good for 10th in the league. Since the Carrier trade they are 18-10-2, good for 8th in the league. I’m not sure they’ll make it but it’s good to see this team improving year over year.

Probably need to go around 13-7-1 to make it. I hope they do but that’s a very steep mountain when factoring in our current winning streak.

Yeah, the 5 game winning streak was just go get back in the race, but now they have to maintain a strong winning pace to get over the finish line.

Your scenario gets them 10 games over 500 for the year. The habs missed the playoffs going 14 games over 500 a few years ago, though that was quite the anomaly.

It's been an insanely roller coaster year right from the start, actually.

It's likely going to come down to the 4 point games we have left. 2 games to play against Ottawa, 1 each against Detroit and Boston, and if they are still considered in the mix 2 games against Philly.

Damn, all of Wings, Blue Jackets, Bruins & Flyers are losing.

Calgary is winning.

A Detroit loss gives WC2 to NYR based on RWs, and Detroit falls to 9th. Ottawa would then have an opportunity to jump back into WC2 by winning their game in hand on both teams. They play tomorrow @ Chicago.

Montreal stays one point back with equal amount games played.

What a perfect night.

Detroit suffers their 3rd consecutive loss and fall into 9th. NYR are now in WC2. They have the RW tie breaker on everyone, so Montreal needs 2 points to pass them.

Sens can now take back WC2 by beating Chicago tomorrow night on the road. I really hope Chicago plays Knight tomorrow as he was fantastic for them in his 1st game.
Bruins lost. It looks like Blue Jackets are going to lose and Flames are going to win!

I remember back when the habs were in the mix prior to their big losing streak before the 4 nations. It seems like many of those out of town results went about as bad as they could for montreal.

Tonight has sure been refreshing to watch.

Edmonton is a very volatile team. Hopefully, the Habs don't catch them on one of their "on" nights and continue their march.

Speaking of volatility, I swear the wings already have multiple massive winning streaks and massive losing streaks since their coaching change. It seems there has been no in-between, and now they are on a 3 game slide as we speak.

If they somehow find a way to get a 2C I think they can do it. They'll get the kind of confidence boost they got from Laine and go on a tear.
I think it's almost impossible to add a 2C who isn't a rental and won't cost Demidov/Reinbacher/Hage or anyone on the NHL team at this stage in the season. If they do make the playoffs, I'm wondering if they sign Demidov and roll a Laine-Newhook-Demidov 2nd line until the offseason.

Demidov's contract goes until May 31st and my guess is that SKA won't release him early

I'm positive I have no idea if this team is making the playoffs. But the overall progression is positive
Yep. Hutson, Guhle, Heineman all showed up or made great strides. Slaf’s year has been disappointing but he’s bouncing back with a good second half. Caufield’s regained his form. 40 would be nice. Evans had a great year. Happy with the play of the bottom six and Carrière was a great addition. Laine is finding his game and has improved lately. Suzuki looks like he’s about to go on an extended tear. Xehjac has been good.

Newhook’s been disappointing. Dach’s story is tragic. Matheson is on his way out at some point.

Overall a good year. We have a couple of holes but they can be fixed.
