Anyone to recap the game for me? I missed 2/3 of the game yesterday. I didn't have to go far to see that Lindgren did well in his first game from what I've seen. I noticed that Necas was playing on the 2nd line and even saw him take a shift or shifts with the 3rd line? Something happened?

Leadership no longer on the team since Game 6 vs Tampa.

Cogliano
Landeskog
EJ
JJ
Helm
Kadri

Thats a massive massive hit to that rooms culture. Yes some of those guys were/are in the twilights of their career and arent the greatest players anymore but their leadership was so invaluable to that cup team and the Avs no longer have that at the moment. Leadership is one of those things we kinda overlook because you cant really measure it on a stat sheet but anyone whose played sports knows how important it is.

Repost this periodically please.

Necas was sick and it got worse as the game went on

It was a game.....seriously just underwhelming and that the Avs won was due to Wedgewood saving us from our awful gameplay. You saved some of your own life by missing it. Necas was nonexistent, but then again so was 90% of the team. Bednar started blending because nothing was working. Lindgren was solid, making smart plays. Vesey should be in for Wood, he does literally nothing even on the fourth line. Game of constant giveaway after giveaway.

Thanks for the info guys !

Team looked like they missed Parissinen and De Haan last night. Clearly the glue of this team. Another Cmac L.

In all seriousness, Bednar should have tried Kelly-Parsnip-LOC as the 4th line for at least one game. Move Kelly and Pars back to their natural positions

The only thing I can think of that made Bedsy hate Parsnip is that he f***s around in practice or something

4th line got smoked last night. 31% corsi, 1 actual shot for, 6 shots and 5 scoring chances against (both were most of any line). I thought Wood looked rough.

The Pens were staying overnight in Denver, so you know Sid was at Mack's house. Hopefully he's slowly wearing him down
Why the f*** would 87 want to come here after watching his shitty ass team smoke the Avs all night, only to lose because the Avs goalie was white hot?

Outside the obvious he doesn't want to leave Pittsburgh, I can't imagine he'd want to leave for a team that is at best a round 1 loser, if they even hold onto a playoff spot.

Sure they were bad, but so was line 3 and line 2 except Nuke. It's pretty much the common theme every night. This team just simply gets very minimal every night, especially 5v5, from the bottom 9.

Time for me to bitch about the breakout again...

Here's Bednar, Lindgren, and others for their post-game media availability.

At the 2:00 mark, Bednar is asked about the difficulties getting the puck out. He says how the Pens have been one of the best forechecking teams in the league(what?) and that our D missed some open guys for passes. He said sometimes you just have to go up and out with it, meaning the stupid flip play.

Two points here:

1. Jared doesn't recognize the Pens were intentionally keeping their second forechecker at our blueline just picking off the long passes that the D are forced to make with his stupid breakout.

2. Jared doesn't understand the adjustment wasn't to go "up and out with it" but rather to drop one damn forward low to give that 5-15 foot passing option for the D under pressure.

Next...

At the 6:20 mark, Lindgren is asked how his first game went. He mentions trying to adapt to a new system and specifically mentions the breakout and "where guys are at."

Imagine being a D not known as a strong passer, you move to a new team, and the breakout is to have all 3 forwards at center ice or deeper forcing you to make picture perfect 50-60 foot passes under forechecking pressure. Not easy at all.

I've said it before, but I absolutely hate our breakout strategy. Good teams come playoff time will eat us alive with this stupid shit.

Makar's entire sequence on the Pens goal was comical.

Like he was in disbelief his pass could get picked off and kept doing dumber things.

If the opposing team is keeping a forechecker high in the zone near the blue line to pick off the long pass that's where the we used to see guys like Makar or G or even Byram skate the puck up and make a good play.

In a world where you have Girard and Byram and Toews and Makar who are 3 years younger and not gassed from playing 28 minutes a night they could actually do that.

Several times last night Drury said "f*** it" and came back into the zone for a short breakout pass, and IIRC every single time he was able to move up the ice with speed and with ease.

Such a simple change yet Bednar refuses. This is where the "Bednar doesn't adjust" crowd has a field day.

And how is Drury's ice time per game looking?

Pretty good for a guy acquired to be a 3C right? Right? Padme meme.

Much higher TOI/game than Parker Kelly and Bednar definitely isn't going to lock Drury in the doghouse for not respecting the breakout.

These guys aren't a serious team.

Girard & Kylington will get smoked in the playoffs, not sure what MacFarland was thinking.

Forwards keep trying to single-handedly skate the puck through the middle like they're Mario Lemieux.

Parker Kelly is a 13th forward at best in this league yet he was still not as bad as Mittelstadt (I know he scored the winner but he was awful).

Dmen can't break out the puck cos the other team picks off passes at the blueline like someone mentioned above and coach makes no adjustments and the defensive scheme in general is just to collapse and hope.

Yeah I thought Lindgren was ok his first game and that's pretty good all things considered. He's a strong skater so that'll come in handy playing on this team. His only issue IMO is that he over plays the body on a lot of plays and gets beat as a result of not being that big and strong. Nevertheless, in a bottom pairing role, I like him a lot so far.

His play at the end of the game where he dumped the Penguins player behind our net and cleared the puck is something I feel like this team has been missing for a while. The simple, take the body and negate the chance play.
I can guarantee you Bednar has already talked to him about that "silly crap" and he will not be playing the body anymore. Just like every other player on the team.

Yeah, this whole Juuso think has just left a real bad taste in my mouth. CMac said he brought him to play bottom six center and for the life of me, I really had the impression Chris brought him in to be 3C, but Bednar used him as a second line winger for a game and then absolutely threw him in the trash bin. I don't know if Bednar's got an ugly dog and some players comment on it or what... but he has an extremely difficult time working with entirely too many NHLrs for my liking.

Drury took that role instead. I think if we didnt get drury as well, parisnip would have been given a fair shot.
