need top 3 pick not a 4 straight exit form the playoffs

While it would suck if we'd get swept, I'd still consider it a big success if the Habs actually qualify.

My worry with picking Top-3/Top-5 year after year is that we get caught in the vicious cycle teams like Sabres, Sens, and Ducks have found themselves in. Not that I would be upset if Habs end up there again this year. But I want to see progress, results. So at some point, we'll need to be happy picking between 9th-12th or losing in the 1st round.

Since their 7-5 win vs. Buffalo:

- Habs are 7-5-1 for a total of 15 pts out of a possible 26. They've been playing .577 hockey since then.
- They are the 11th best team in the league since then.
- They're even in goal differential (38GF & 38GA)
- They have the 13th best PP.
- They have the 6th best PK.

They have a bunch of teams they need to leapfrog, but despite them being last in the Eastern Conference, they are still very much in the mix being 4 pts out of a playoff spot. But If they continue to play .577 hockey, they give themselves a chance

It's the old saying: You don't make the playoffs in October, but you could miss them.

Just not scoring enough goals or timely goals to make any kind of a run.
We still see the likelihood of any type of streak being on the negative side.
The loss against Washington was a perfect example of where we are at.
The fun thing has been we are finally seeing positives with individual player growth and team spirit.

Yeah…Realistically they need around 95 points, so 70 points in 54 games.

32-16-6, or .648

3 out of 5 with the occasional OTL isn’t extraordinary, but it would be for the current Habs squad.

If we assume that we're gonna need 92 points to secure then 2nd wildcard spot then we'd need to get 67 points across the next 54 games.

That means we would need to play the rest of the season at a 0.62 point percentage, but up to this point we only played at 0.45. Laine's been great so far, but I don't think he's going to manage to boost our point percentage by 17% singlehandedly.

Having a quality backup goalie is so underrated.
They're also unpredictable. We could trade for Allen and he might suck. It's just the nature of a backup.

Primeau was solid last year. No idea why he’s in the fritz now. But we could waive him and he might be great elsewhere. Just the way it goes with marginal goalies.
It will be much more interesting if Dach can figure things out. He wasn't great last night but I did see some more jump from him on a few occasions. He might be coming around an if so, we won't be an easy opponent.
I’m so disappointed in him this year.

if we keep playing horrific teams, we could reach 80 pts at this pace. it's weird the entire league is 80% awful this year. It's like 93 , you could see a bottom feeding team make a run at the cup

Slippery slope eh.............
Picking around 10th and Calgary's pick around 14 would be a nice first round this upcoming draft.

They have figured out that Monty has to start just about every game because Primeau is simply not getting it done. I am surprised Hughes hasn't addressed the goaltending
Working on it................got a hunch.

If we stay healthy and that 2nd line can play to all their respective bests then we can.

If we have Dach playing like he did 2 seasons ago, Slaf playing like he did last year and Laine at his best then they could become our first line potentially. It would be a huge improvement from where they are now. And it’s not impossible. Hell if that happens we could even do some damage potentially.

He lacks the on-ice awareness to be an effective center, I'm sure you are seeing this. There were multiple occasions last night where he lost his man and is weak in the faceoff dot. He is getting an extended shot because of his injury and because he was a high profile trade for the new management group.

He could use some time in the AHL if they are intent on using him at center. Call up Beck for a few games to give him a taste while Dach is there.

Primeau is pretty predictable right now.

Okay.

How do you think he’s be doing in Jersey? How would Allen be doing here?
Allen was much better than Primeau when he was here and has been a much better goalie throughout his career. Primeau stinks, and we need an upgrade. How is this a debate?

I didn’t say we didn’t need an upgrade. But Allen ain’t it.

And again, any backup we get is going to be a wildcard. It’s the nature of the position.

Well, making the playoffs with this team is maybe not such a good idea anyway. They aren't that strong and even if they do make it, it will almost for sure be as a wild card and out first round. That in turn means getting a much worse draft number as well as losing a chance on the lottery. It leads to being a "not just good enough team" stuck in the middle forever.

I have positivity about da playoffs. I am positive that I want Habs to make them.
Yoel and Laine will lead us to the promised land.

Get a backup, Hughes, FFS!

Ottawa, Detroit and Buffalo: "this is the way"
